Last year I volunteered at Baxter Park on opening day and had a ball working in "crowd control." It was a lot of fun and I practically begged them to let me come back again.

Well they did call and want me to come up for two days instead of one. I committed to one, said I'd check with the boss and call back about both days, I figured no problem. I was really excited and began making plans for the rest of that weekend playing in the snow.

Now I have to call and tell 'em I can't come up at all, because I can't have even one stinkin' lousy day off!

That sucks bigtime and I'm so po'ed!

And the really odd thing is, for those who don't know, twiggy's employer is the State of Maine!

Good grief.

Major Bummage, Twigeater. If you'd like to scare your boss as an act of revenge, I suggest writing him the following memo, unsigned.

May your sun be blown out just like a candle,
May your sea burn like tar,
May your sky be rolled up just like a scroll,
May your blue moon drip with blood.

It's from a Mr. Bungle song. Pretty creepy, huh?

Unreal, the state won't let you take a day off to volunteer, but I'll bet they'll furlough you, without any imput from you.

lyra if I had thought for one second that he'd say no, I would've! Believe me, I see many sick days in my future.

My whole office feels bad for me. I've whined to everyone - I'll probably spend at least 16 hours complaining, lol.

I plan on swearing profusely at him over the next several weeks...

same here Geobeet, we have 24/7 access to our offices.

Last year after we were done for the day, the director asked me if I was interested in working at one of the campgrounds. I had to decline because I can't work seasonally, but it was nice to be asked - and there's always someday...

Twigeater - Mr. Bungle ROCKS!!! Their lead singer is Mike Patton (former lead singer of Faith No More).

Their music is very.. bizaare. I played some for Wolfman's Brother during our travels to Maine last month, but he couldn't take it. :-)

11/14/02

omigawd, bacpac is talkin' to me!?!

No t-shirt, no ropes (darn!) just me with a clipboard running back and forth from 6am to 5pm. I certainly never sneered. I get (got) lodging and meals, no special treatment and it's a 3 hour drive each way. I enjoy volunteering and this isn't the only thing I do, but most other stuff I get admin leave for. This BSP thing uses my own vacation time. So I am trying to see the positive side - I'm saving two days time, but I still feel like 2 cents for having to say I can't be there.

Thanks 'dude, I feel for you too. It wouldn't be so bad if there was actually a reason I couldn't have time off. It's because they've denied a couple of people days off in December and they'd #&%!$ if I got time off and they didn't. If it's a budget year (which this is) our butts have to be in our chairs, even if we aren't doing anything.

Ahhhhh yes, the ol' gummint boorockacy at its finest! Okay class, fold your little hands and place them in the center of your desk. Sit up straight. Let's go around the class and when it's your turn, stand up and tell us your name. Let's start right over here with twigeater:

So much for my resolve to behave and be grateful I have a job...

Apparently I didn't get the memo, because we are allowed to have time off. Well...provided we meet one of the following conditions, that is.

1)you have four children and no sitter, so you get the week of Christmas off...

2)you've accumulated so much time that you'll lose it if you don't use it...

3)your wife's stepdaughter - who you've never met - is getting married in Montreal...

4)you ask for it the day before.

LOL, I'm just venting here (thank-you!) I don't think anyone in my office dares to speak to me today. I know my boss ain't lookin' me in the eye.

Our boss, the owner of a small company (11 emplyees total, 5 employees here today), NEVER let's us go early.

OK, once last year he let us go at 3:00 pm on the 23rd of December.

And we're all sitting around doing nothing...well except for me on TT all day...and maybe playing solitaire in between lurking.

I work for a company with a seniority based vacation policy. I have one coworker with 25 years here and 5 more weeks off a year than I do, who refuses to do any of the hard work, claiming inexperience or lack of knowledge.

"Retired on Active Duty" is what we called those people in the Navy.
