Can't we all just get along?
I must say the last few days on TT have really sucked. Sucked bad!!!
All the bickering and argueing over this and that, all the mudslinging, people bad mouth politicians for all the negative junk they say about their opponents and their opponents views on things. And we criticize them for this!!! Aren't some of us the pot who called the kettle black?

I've decided not to publicly have an opinion either way as far as posting it.

Some people I hike with and like are anti-this or pro-this when it comes to vocalizing their opinions about something different from what they think. I plan hiking with ones I haven't met in the future and both kinds are bashing each other.

That's the beauty of where we live. We all have the right to our own opinion. "Opinions are like @$$holes, evreyones got one" so they say.

Don't get all bent out of shape if someone agrees or disagrees with the way you see things.

GUESS WHAT???? The way you see things may be wrong!!! But it may be right!!!

Either way, it doesn't matter. We all came to this site for a common love for backpacking. Not for a bickering match on views of this and that. If you want to bash other people's ideas about the latest pack weight or bash them personally. I would encourage you to go be a politician who argues over such things,.. as a great King once said "This too is MEANINGLESS".

DISCLAIMER: We all have the right to say whatever we want!!!

But please can't we all just get along???????????????

Oh, like everyone is going to agree with what you just said? Good luck! :)

I like the bickering that goes on, for the most part. I agree that everyone is entitled to their opinion. That's just part of life. But personal attacks are just unnecessary.

combat boots.

I think you have a point bbinkley, and it is best illustrated by the conservative vs liberal interaction. Instead of a difference of opinion, it becomes very personalized and soon people are attacking your right to breathe your share of air.

If people stick to the issues, but leave out personal attacks, life is much better.

I hate to tell you bro, but the borders are virtually open anyway, legal, illegal, hunted down or not. That is, and has been for as long as I can remember, a fact of life. If all the money we spend on border security isn't enough to do the job, maybe we're doing something wrong. Maybe we should be focusing on helping Mexico develop its economy so Mexicans don't have to come across the border. I think that is part of what Bush and Fox are after. Other than that, people are dying attempting to cross the border and being victimized by thugs. We use lights, sensors, patrols, aircraft, radar, infrared, and all kinds of esoteric devices and it's still not enough. And if we did seal off the border, there are boats, like the Haitian group that tried to come ashore in Florida.

Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, expecting different results. The results won't change as long as economic conditions working for sub-minimal wage in the US are preferable alternatives to staying home.

Under present law they are sent back, just as Mexicans who get caught are sent back. But that does not mean they stay "back."

The point remains, if we want to stop illegal aliens (from wherever), we have to work on the root problem, not just the effect of the root problem. Saying it is not our problem and sealing off the borders is not working because it's just not possible to seal a border that long. That was the point. The coast is a border too, and there are bays and bayous along much of the Gulf Coast.

If we can't keep illegal drugs out of the country with all the money we spend on air and sea patrols, then we can't keep illegal aliens out either. History and experience bears that out.

So working with Mexico to help boost it's economy is indeed a way we might be able to solve the problem of illegal aliens from Mexico. Now it might work and it might not work, but sealing borders is not working. Sending them back is not working. Shoot, some border guards know these people on a first-name basis.

The fact that the Haitians were sent back will not resolve that situation either, and there is a lot more sea to navigate from Haiti to Florida than there is from Mexico to Texas or Louisiana. Unfortunately, there is no government in Haiti we can work with. There is in Mexico.

Having lived in San Diego for 34 years, I can attest to the fact the our border with Mexico is a sieve. It is physically impossible to stop the flow of illegal immigrants into this country. Furthermore, at least when I lived there, had the INS been able to plug the leaks at the border then San Diego's hospitality industry would have ceased to exist; that's hotels, restaurants, everything. The fact is, the 'wetbacks' are dirt poor and will take jobs that no one else wants, and work damn hard at them.
INS would gather them up, bus them to a dentention facility at the border, send them home and they'd be back the next day or two. I am not in favor of a blanket amnesty for these people. After all, we stole part of their country fair and square. ;-) But we need to work something out to give both countries some relief.

Correction FG, we didn't steal anything. The lands of CA, AZ, NV, CO, UT and NM were ceded to the US by the Mexican government for $15M through the treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo in 2/1848, thus ending the Mexican American War. Southern AZ & NM was purchased from Mexico for $10M through the Gadsden purchase.

I'm not saying it was right, but at least we paid for it. How much did Mexico pay Spain and how much did Spain the Native Americans for the lands?

There is a song.........
About my favorite three topics of controversy........

Well, I went home with the waitress
The way I always do
How was I to know
She was with the Russians, too

I was gambling in Havana
I took a little risk
Send lawyers, guns and money
Dad, get me out of this

I'm the innocent bystander
Somehow I got stuck
Between the rock and the hard place
And I'm down on my luck
And I'm down on my luck
And I'm down on my luck

Now I'm hiding in Honduras
I'm a desperate man
Send lawyers, guns and money
The #&%!$ has hit the fan

Send lawyers, guns and money...
