Another moral victory hike
Did four miles on the towpath today. That was probably a mile more than I should have done, but I guess I'll try to elevate and ice the ankle this afternoon.

Slowly but surely, the rehab goes on.

I'm off this list. I hiked 3 peaks, 6200' - 10,064', with el gain/loss between the peaks.

Funny thing about it, when I was out there, I didn't have to take anything for headaches and I wasn't using orajel for the gashes in my mouth. I must've been sucking air and drooling. Last night (and today) the mouth feels like pins sticking through.

I'll be good as new by next weekend!

Okay Snow Nymph, that's showing off!

But seriously folks, that's great.

Next Sunday I take the traveling gimp show to Bake Oven Knob, no 6,200 feet by any stretch, but a few rocks to dance on (hopefully dry ones).

It is funny how walking outdoors can ease the ills.

I get the sense that telling her something is impossible is pointless. She'd do it just to prove she can do it.

Saw a sign on a church board on the way home from the canal today. It read: "Would you try something new if you were assured of success?"

Thought that was provacative.

"It is funny how walking outdoors can ease the ills."...Geo
Being outdoors cures almost anything for me. When I used to run, if I felt a cold coming on, I'd run and blow it out of my system (or at least I think it worked that way for me). Good luck on your hike, and don't push it with that leg.

"I get the sense that telling her something is impossible is pointless. She'd do it just to prove she can do it"....Geo
Now you sound like my dad! J/K!!

LOL Skeetah, new pain, yes, it's a surprise a minute. Life is certainly not dull these days, pains shoot from the mending bone, then a muscle or two, then the mending ligament, then from the knee, or the other leg looking for sympathy, or somewhere on the lower part of the foot.

I made the list!!!
I broke my toe this morning- the one next to the pinky toe on my left foot- This takes me out of the running for a dayhike with Geo and Maple this weekend, which sux, but I can't let it stop me from going on the Catskills trip.

What did you do you little lug, go back to Hot Dog Johnny's?
Geobeet
5:56:02 PM
11/27/02

Nope, I did this one in the comfort of my own home. The next time I go to HDJ's, you'd better believe it's with a jackhammer. Oh yeah, I also have a slight black eye at the moment too, which was the result of an argument between myself and a broomstick. Said broomstick is now a pile of sawdust.
Corporal Nasty

you should have burnt the stick like the gym floor!
mapleleaf
6:04:42 PM
11/27/02

Man, you're a danger to yourself. Between you and Maple I don't understand why there are empty hospital beds.

Just be careful with that jackhammer. Those things can chew you up.

Way to show that broomstick. The object of the game is to do it to them before they do it to you. You have the right idea, but the wrong order.

Sorry you'll miss the hike. It won't be a long one because I can't do a whole lot, but we hope to have some fun, unless the trail is icy. I've been on this list too damn long to risk another injury.

Tuesday of next week is my exit visit with the orthopedic doc, and I have three more rehab appointments (unless they like my mug so much they keep me longer).

I will miss playing with all those toys they got from the Spanish Inquisition Surplus Sale.
Geobeet

11/27/02

I might just do that- I still have the sawdust in a bag. I was going to scatter it to the wind, just to show things that are made of wood not to mess with me. My toe was broken by the edge of my bed, which is also wooden in nature- I didn't have time to saw that to pieces this morning, but I have three days off, and I am a patient man.
Corporal Nasty
6:10:21 PM
11/27/02

Geo
Yeah, sorry I can't do the hike- The toe's all swollen and everything right now, I want to give it a couple of days rest since I have to work on Sunday. The hospitals are still empty by the way, because I'm not smart enough to go to one when I need to. (Not like they can do anything for a broken toe anyway.)
Corporal Nasty
6:12:09 PM
11/27/02

Really, broken toes heal fast if you don't have a cast put on. Not the same with broken legs and dislocated ankles.

But, I'm feeling better than I have since 7:58 a.m. Aug. 25.
Geobeet
6:14:58 PM
11/27/02

You sure about that?
I broke the big toe on my right foot while in Egypt a few years back- We were playing soccer against the Egyptian army, and I swear they had planted tent stakes spray painted to match the sand on their side of the field- We were tripping all over them every time we had the ball over there- That toe took months to heal fully.
Corporal Nasty
6:18:25 PM
11/27/02

yes they can do somethin for a broken toe
they can wrap it and make you smile and tell you it will heal in time. so there!!!
mapleleaf
6:19:53 PM
11/27/02

I wrapped mine, I have yet to smile. Perhaps when the blade of my saw takes the first bite out of my bed.
Corporal Nasty
6:21:56 PM
11/27/02

I've broken my big toe (same one, same place) three times, and with a cast it took two full months. Without a cast it took six weeks.

Plus, with a cast, when it comes off you need rehab, and it takes another month or two to get your full range of movement back. So I stopped going to a hospital for a broken toe. I might go to the doctor and get a painkiller prescription, but that would be about it.

I actually don't like taking painkillers- I hurt my knee real bad once, again while I was in the service, and was on serious painkillers for it. Thing is, they were too good, and I didn't even realize I was aggravating the injury since I couldn't feel anything. Now, I try to avoid them. (The painkillers, not the injuries. Not smart enough to avoid those.)

Yeah Corporal, what Maple said. She got beat to snot by a dead turkey, and she's going on the hike. You don't see her wussing out. That dead turkey put a hurtin on her, too. And you know what? That dead turkey's going down tomorrow! That's what kind of hiker Maple is!

I didn't break my @ss...
And as soon as Maple starts picking fights with solid objects, such as concrete and wood, I'll take her wussy comments seriously. When it's coming from someone who's been stabbed by a piece of fruit or had their butt kicked by a dead animal, the word wussy loses its sting somehow.
