Go to the doctor quick like a bunny (should be easy for you Bugs) and get a prescription for a muscle relaxer. Spend a night and/or a day with that and you won't care about your back.

HELLO?
being on my back got me here in the first place!!!

Okay, PT report for today:

Stretched that puppy every which way but loose today. It feels a bit sore this afternoon, but freedom of movement continues to improve. Rain over the weekend is gonna make it tough to get out for a walk, dammit! Saturday is a complete wash, Sunday is iffy. Rain absolutely has to move to the middle of the week!

Three weeks of therapy to go, then we assess where I am. I think not fully recovered by then, but able to walk almost normally if not completely normally.

Concerns continue to be tightness and swelling. They do not seem overly concerned, though, and there has been continuous, if incremental, improvement.

The exercise bike is a pretty good workout. I kicked the resistance up a bit today. It registered 2.4 miles after 10 minutes, still not a great distance. I'll miss that toy when it's over.

If you need moist heat, wet a wash cloth or small towel then put it in a ziplock bag, leave the bag partly open, and stick in the microwave for a minute or so then apply it to affected region. Works great for muscle pain and sinus headaches. Learned this from a PT friend.

I just had a thought as to how Artex might have injured his neck with out knowing how. He probably tried to fling his pack over his head to put it on, a la Twigeater, and clocked himself in the head, ensuring an injured neck and amnesia all at the same time.

What do you think? Well it could happen, you know. I'm sure that it would happen to me. It really is amazing to see Twigeater put her pack on like that.

There are only two cures for that: muscle relaxers or time.

My leg is still swollen and painful. I am wondering at what point it ceases to be a "concern" and becomes a reason to go back to the doctor. But, the pain seems to be muscular rather than anything else, so I guess it's part of the rehab process.
Geobeet

I think it's part of the healing process. When my broken arm was healing I was getting a lot of pains especially in my shoulder joint and right at the break. PT stresses it too and after overdoing it during one session, I had to back off for a week. I didn't have swelling though so that may be something different. Ask your therapist and see what they think. Good luck with the leg, Geo.

I just realised... the weather started getting cold and rainy a few weeks ago, but my old ankle sprain hasn't acted up.

uh oh. I hope I didn't just jinx myself.

BTW, the last time I clocked myself, I was going about 2 MPH.

Thanks Rich. The therapists are quite aware of it. They measure it with a tape measure every week, and they said it is a concern, not a worry. There is also sometimes a clicking sound. They tell me that is the ligaments trying to move around the bone.

My left knee has done this almost my entire life. When I was a catcher, I found that batters would look around when I squatted. With good hitters I would wait to squat until just before the pitch to see if I could get a called strike while they looked around at my knee. Nothing like starting off with a 0-1 count without even seeing a pitch.

Friday's workout included some new stretching exercises. It probably beat me up more than I thought.

Welcome Donovan
What does Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb have in common with Geobeet and Spirit Coyote?

Broke his ankle today.

Welcome to the Gimp Club big D!

Sorry, Geobeet, that the leg is still causing you pain. But on the bright side, LLBean is opening a store in Flemington NJ. Since there aren't that many gear stores in the area, this makes me very happy. I just found out that my former stepmother is going to need a hip replacement surgery. She will stay at my house for several weeks for some convalescence and I'm sure that her physical therapy will be a trial as well. But like you, she is looking forward to the day when the pain is mostly gone.

It will pass in due course. I figured it would have simmered down by now, but the stretching they have me do gradually increases in tension, and Friday's workout worked it over pretty good.

I bagged an anniversary party for a friend today. Started out, got down the first flight of stairs, and decided to bag it. I hope that in a week or two the pain will have settled down to manageable levels and that the swelling will have subsided as well.

Physical therapy for hip replacement will probably be worse than for a broken leg and dislocated ankle. I don't envy her.

My brother lives near Flemington and works at the Timberland store there. I shudder to think about getting loose in LL Bean more often than once every 10 years when I get to Maine. I'll blow a month's pay at a whack!

Discipline, need discipline.

Mapleleaf...must be a part of getting old!!!LOL I know what ya mean, when I did my knee, at the same time I think I pulled a muscle in my back too and I still have some pain in my left shoulder too from a fall I took quite some time ago...I'm falling apart!!! No not really, jsut parts of me...my knee still isn't up to par either. UK wants me to wait another week for some cardio at the gym...I can't stand it!! I need cardio, god help me get better and stop hurting myself.

Geobeet, no SHOPPING, I LIVE FOR SHOPPING!!!

Always remember
Getting old sucks, but it beats the he11 out of the alternative.

Then again, those who have ended up with the alternative have not come back to tell us about it. Why? Maybe they have it too good! Hmmm!

Those stretching exercises at PT are brutal and I used to hate them the most. It was like 1 hour of torture 3 times a week. They do a lot of good though since that's what helps get full motion back in the limb. I used to get that clicking sound in my shoulder, but I didn't bother to ask what it was. That went away after about 5 months.

My mom had hip replacement 2 years ago and came through it quite well. She can walk with much less pain than before and it's amazing what modern medicine can do. She used to get a lot of cramps in her legs from the therapy and it took a while for rehab. She stayed at the rehab hospital for about a week or so and then went as an outpatient.

My stepmother said that she would be in the hospital for 4 days, the rehab center for two weeks, and then I told her she could stay at my house for as long as she needs. She is moving from Somerville to Lancaster PA next month (planned this before she knew that she needed this operation), so she won't be close to anyone for help. She said that they told her that it would take six weeks to three months before she could drive again.

Living away from the family is tough when you need support and they are a couple hundred miles away. About the only reason I'm still in the Philly area is to be near my mom who is 82 and has been ailing the past three years.

I could see the Russian gal happening after last week.

Stove, that one is already out of the bag. Ya gotta get home on Sunday night.

I get my snacks together at 8:45, turn off the phone, and settle down. That is the fastest hour of the entire week. Between "Woke up this morning ..." and the music coming up for the final scenes, I figure there is no more than 20 minutes of time, and yet a whole hour has passed.

Three more episodes for this season, then we have to wait around for the final season.

Oh well, Ralphie ain't gonna be there. Poor Ralphie.

Somehow, I don't think Carmella will do Furio. She might be willing, but Furio won't do it.

We were talking about the Sopranos today and wondering whether Tony will get whacked by the end. I said if so, it will probably be Silvio who will do it. Anybody else have an opinion?

This is beginning to pi$$ me off!
The cholestrol levels came back high, so the doctor is putting me on Zocor. Now I have to worry about liver damage on top of the rat poison.

And, of course, that means she wants me off booze for the Zocor as well as the rat poison, and who knows how long that will last.

I think I'm gonna end up line dancing sooner than I wanted.

Gotta get on the trail and work this crap all out! I'll never get the night shift back to work at Glenfiddich at this rate!

Hey RichB, you had six inches of snow in Scranton? We just had a dusting. When the wind died down, the temps were pretty comfortable here. The hiking has helped my rollerblading. I was doing much better. I want to shop at that Play it Again Sam store for some used ice skates for me and Tara. It may actually be cold enough this winter, and I found a local park that has skating on the pond in winter.
