You must do it every day or nearly so and make it a life habit. Sitting in a chair place feet and knees shoulder-width apart. Grab kinees from the outside and push in with the arms and out with the thighs. Hold a few seconds and relax and repeat. Place the backs of hands against inside of knees and push out with arms while pushing in with thighs. While pushing, thighten your gut and then relax along with arms and legs. Use good posture. Strengthening your torso should help with lumbar pain but you must make it a life habit. The human body was made to work. If you gain enough strength doing chin-ups on a bar is great for the lumbar, even if you are only capable of a few at a time.
