No, but I did something similiar to that last year skiing. It was about 2 months before my wedding...I swear a co-worker jinxed me. He kept saying you shouldn't go skiing, you may get hurt...it's too close to your wedding...well I assured him I'd be alright. NOT!!! I swear it was all his fault.

So what happened? First run down an expert trail I'd done before, lost control and took this really weird fall. Almost head over heals, a$$ over tea kettle, there I go, pulled my left calf muscle and had to be towed down the hill by the ski patrol with my fiance at the time(UK), daughter, and her fiance following behind. My son-in-law just HAD to take a picture(wanted to kill him).

Anyway getting off the subject, it felt like a really bad charie horse that wouldn't stop. Turned all kinds of pretty colors. With the help of a great physical therapist, walked normally down the aisle just in time for the wedding and honeymoon. Physical therapy is the best for stuff like that. To this day I only get an occasional reminder of that.

Hey Maple
Sorry to hear about your health problems. Hope you feel better soon. I am also rethinking the Colorado trip, but for other reasons. I hope we can hike together some day. Do you have another trip planned?

You've really got to do NOTHING. Ruptured discs are one of the worst. I just hope you're not one of the 7% like my Mom who develops really bad scar tissue after the surgery. She had to have a 2nd procedure. THe docs thought it was from moving around too early, before things had healed properly. Just tske it easy for as long as possible.

how early was she up and moving around.
there was so much scar tissue built up on my disc area, they told my wife i should have done it years ago. id say, i had off/on hip & leg pain for 3 yrs.

its hard to trust doctors..

The second time around we wouldn't even let her go downstairs for three weeks. SHe didn't go outside for a month, and I did all lifting, shopping and errands for almost 3. When she'd get a checkup call from the docs office, I'd talk to them instead, giving them my observations. SHe was supposed to do swimming exercises after several months, but she never did them. It's why her back is still weak.

Hate to bring this thread back up, but I have a new injury to report. My wife Amy works for a veterinarian. She was helping with an emergency delivery of a calf last nightand slipped and fell off a cattle trailer. She said the pain was so bad that she immediately passed out then puked!

Initial x-rays show a small crack in the fibula, but it appears the main damage may be in the knee. We're going to the orthopedic surgeon this morning for MRI. She says it feels like when she blew her other knee out in college. Yikes!

We were supposed to go hiking tomorrow. :( Looks like that will be out of the question for awhile.

I'm hoping for good news from the orthopedic surgeon.

I'm sorry Indiana John. Your wife's job isn't an easy one, and an injury like this is probably quite a bummer to her for a lot of reasons, hiking being one, and working being another one. I hope the news from the doctor is positive and she heals up fast.

OK, bad news. Amy saw the orthopedic surgeon Friday. Torn ACL and MCL. It's all gone. She's looking at full reconstructive surgury in 10 to 14 days, then 4-6 months recovery time with no driving or working!!

OK, get this, on the same day we find all this out, we also find out we're pregnant. Been trying for a year now. WOW!! We had the test because we didn't want to risk x-rays if she was.

Looks like my summer plans have changed!! What a weekend.

OMG, John. You two are a living testament to how life can change in a matter of one day (or less). I really wish you all the best. Dealing with this and pregancy at the same time is going to be challenging, to put it mildly. Stay strong and all my positive vibes are with you guys...
