I noticed that there is a censored thread, but that it has moved up the list anyway. This ought to mean that it is somehow being accessed by other TTers. Howzat?

It is not censored, it is just blank. It is more mindless chatter.

It's just something to irritate those who don't know how to post to it.
The fun is in figuring out how.

Oh man gremlin. You're missing the party! You need to master the secret knock. It goes:

Knock knockity knock knock knock knock knockity knock knockity-knock knock, knockity-knock knock knock knockity knockity knock knockity knock knock

Gremlin...
Just click on the last poster list when that thread is near the top.
It'll be the one with no subject.
Or take the clue that's been given you....

I used Partition Magic to create a separate partition for my page file (Windows XP). I made it twice the size of my RAM. I keep getting a nag that says that drive is running low on space and offers to clean it up for me. If I let it empty the empty recycle bin, the nag goes away until I reboot. Without stretching that partition or reducing the size of the page file, is there some way to get rid of that nag? It happens on two different machines – one with 256 MB of RAM and one with 1.5 GB.

Phagdrus wont help you, he's thinks you are dumb for using XP.

Stupid Violin!

He can solder and wire a deisel run computer though.

Throw the computer out the window. You will never have that nag again. It works for any nag!

Vio, the default for the recycle bin is set at 10% of your drive. You can change that, and it should reduce the occurance of the problem...

What prompted you to create that small a partition in the first place?

Is there a way to add a Scheduled Task that emptied your empty recycle bin? You could have it do that every hour, and you'd never see the nag again.

I'm going to try changing the size of the bin to 0 and reboot. Back in a few.

It's ba-ack.

I read in PC World or PC Magazine that it was best to put your page file in a separate partition or better yet, in a separate partition on another drive to keep the page file from getting fragmented (defrag doesn’t work on the page file). I was also urged to do that by a geek I know.
vIoLiN

It is suggested! But only on systems that have a bunch of data being written to it. For the average user like I am assuming most are here. It is of no use.

Phagdrus isn't an average user...he solders.

Phaedrus

Yeah. I just rebooted a second time after allowing file compression. I have a 'Norton protected' recycle bin on this POS but not at home.
vIoLiN

So now you're compressing your page file, which will add overhead to every page fault, probably making a worse performance situation than the fragmentation scenario you were trying to avoid.

I'd either increase the partition or decrease the page file or get used to the message.

Is your computer saying running low on virtual memory or drvie space? You may want to delete all your .tmp and .dmp files. Also run a scandisc then a defrag. All else fails throw it out the window!

Thanks
Reducing the size of the page file to less than 90% of the partition size worked. I wonder if I should stretch the partition to allow a page file twice my RAM or is that ratio not so magical?
vIoLiN

That's a rule of thumb, vio, but you can determine your actual usage a little better with a diag tool like faber toys. I'm not up on the latest stuff for XP, but there should be some sort of freebie that will work out there on download.com.
