The Thursday night game between the Steelers and the Tennessee Titans that opened the 2009 NFL season was the most watched NFL Kickoff since the concept’s inception, according to official national ratings data released by Nielsen Media Research.

The Steelers won the game in overtime, 13-10, and the dramatics inherent in such a contest helped the telecast draw an average audience of 20.9 million viewers. The previous high for the NFL Kickoff was the 2006 edition between the Steelers and Dolphins – the first Thursday night NFL Kickoff game on NBC – and that was seen by 19.2 million people.

As for the top metered markets for Steelers-Titans, Pittsburgh was the runaway leader with a 49.6 rating and a 70 share. The share indicates that 70 percent of the televisions in use in the Pittsburgh market last Thursday were tuned to the Steelers game.

I'm pretty happy with my new favorite team, the 49ers. My old favorite team, the Cowboys, started the game playing like it was December, then must have seen a calendar and played brilliantly...

I can't help but root for Favre. It's the narcissist in me I suppose.

I root for him cuz I like football.

70% of the people in Pittsburgh with televisions do not have a life.

Can't wait to see the game vs. that Pack up in Green Bay. Their defense was all over the place last night against the Bears.

If AJ Hawk can get to Favre, he will put him back on the sauce.

Those will be two great games this year, if Farve uses his running backs properly, they should just march up and down the field, eating up the clock. It's going to be a fun year.

The Pack's defense will be ready for the run. They will make Farve beat them with the pass.

@Nimblefoot, no chance for any blacked out games in Pittsburgh, because the stadium is always sold out. As a matter of fact in August 2008, ESPN.com ranked the Steelers' fans as the best in the NFL, citing their "unbelievable" sellout streak of 299 consecutive games.

Won't be this year.

The Pats really whallopped that kid returning the kick at the end of the game to get a fumble. Did you hear Gruden hollering for him to get down in the end zone?

Don't worry Ped, I'm sure Brady went home and found some way to console himself. Maybe by looking at these.

good weekend to be a football fan (if youre me, that is)

irish won, hoosiers won, pats lost, steelheads lost, bears won, chargers lost, cowboys lost their 1 billion dollar home opener in front of 100k people, and 2 of the colts division rivals dropped to 0-2. now all we need is for the colts to take care of business against a team that, on paper, should not be difficult to beat. well, we all know how that goes. im predicting a colts win, but it wont be easy

“Who Dat!” - heard on the sideline when Sean Payton hollers for the defense to take the field.

“Jets are on fire.” - I'm way more impressed with Mark Sanchez this year than last year when he was at USC.

"cowboys lost their 1 billion dollar home opener in front of 100k people" - if Romo could consistently put the ball where it's supposed to go...if somebody could catch it...

that was piss-poor timeclock management by the phins at the end of the game. they called 1 too many running plays, and let too much time expire between plays at the start of the drive
