“A team of astronauts aboard the International Space Station is pulling for the Pittsburgh Steelers in this weekend's Super Bowl showdown against the Arizona Cardinals.

Leading the space Steelers charge is station skipper Michael Fincke, a native of Pittsburgh, Pa., who beamed a video message of support to his team during the NFL playoffs earlier this month.

TAMPA BAY, FL—Just days before the Super Bowl, the Pittsburgh Steelers' public relations department announced that the team's vaunted "Steel Curtain" defense would be renamed to more accurately reflect their city's current vocational demographics.


"With the sunset of the foundry era in Pittsburgh an acknowledged reality, it was time to take a serious look at team nicknames," media relations director Tina McClary said. "After reviewing Pittsburgh's current position as a leader in financial services, health-care management, and corporate administration, we settled on the 'Mid-Level White-Collar Curtain' or 'Middle Management' as the new nickname for our defense. As usual, our offense will have no particular nickname." McClary would not speculate on whether or not the team would change the Steeler name itself, but admitted that executives had looked at uniform designs for the Pittsburgh Retailers, the Pittsburgh Biomedical Technicians, and the Pittsburgh Eighth-Most Fortune 500 Company Corporate Headquarters Hosters.”

That's all true. And I'd add that the Cards are the team the Pats crushed and left for dead in December. The Steelers have no business feeling superior to any football team, except the ones that didn't win the 2009 SUPER BOWL.”

The cheetoes one was humorous.

They seemed to make up in quantity for what they lacked in quality.

Was there any question the Steelers would score when they got the ball with over 2 minutes to go?”

“I remember on one of the Steelers TD (it might have been the one where the replay overturned it) where a lineman actually grabbed Big Ben and drug him into the endzone. Did the NFL do away with the rule against offensive players assisting the runner? I can understand a no-call if he was anywhere near blocking the defender, but he was on the opposite side of the defender with his arms wrapped around Ben and pulling him forward.”

Same goes for the fan base. Nothing to make them feel like they have it better than any other fan base, except for those with teams that didn't win the one in 2009, or get six of 'em overall.

BTW: That final fumble call to end the game looked pretty dicey to me. It looked to me like Warner was already into the pass when the ball came out.”

“Even if it was a fumble. It was sheer stupidity by the refs not to have an official review. Especially since the cardinals had already won their previous two challenges and would have surely used their 3rd if it hadn't have been in the last 2 minutes when they aren't allowed too.

“What cost them to lose the game was that half the offense was lolly gagging during the run back of the intersection at the end of the half. You play to the whistle, you don't stop playing because you aren't near the play. there is no way he should have been able to run that back. they figured the half was over no matter where he went down since there wouldn't be another play. Good thing for the Steelers that they played hard the whole run back.”
