Coming from Harman it is on the right as I recall, on the left coming from Thomas. It is a restaurant and I think it also has rooms for rent. I think it's the only restaurant in the "downtown" area. They cater to skiers, bike riders, hikers, etc. Yeah Prowler, Davis is only about 15 or 20 minutes from the turnoff to the trailhead. VEry near Blackwater Falls. There used to be a large wooden Paul Bunyan and Babe sculpture outside one of the motels in Davis, but it's long gone. That is one bit of folk culture that I miss.” 8:22:06 PM 10/01/02 Seriously..Wanna Make The Trip Even More Exciting? “You guys really should take the 45 road to experience the breathtaking thrill and near-death excitement.” 8:27:26 PM 10/01/02 “I've driven it with no ill effects. Last May in fact. Of course, I did it at the breath-taking speed of about 30 mph, slower on hairpin curves (it's probably a misnomer to call them curves). There are scarier roads in the Mon.” 8:32:49 PM 10/01/02 Sorry.... “Every trip I go on it ALWAYS rains. So prepare for the worst & make the best out of it! ah ya! I love rain!” 5:52:22 AM 10/02/02 “Rt 72 from Davis to Parsons is a lot of fun too. I packed my $hit last night. If I can get moving early Friday morning, I'll be there by 10:00 AM. Oh great, pancakes and coffee and hittin' the trail. Note to self: "Don't forget the T-paper".” 7:37:25 AM 10/02/02 “Chances of rain are a mere 30% right now, Prowler. You may break your streak. Looks like it's going to be warm too. I might have to take the fleece outta my pack.” 9:45:48 AM 10/02/02 Stay with rain gear “It rains in those parts when it rains nowhere else. Those mountains stick up above the surrounding countryside, compressing the winds as they move over the ridges, wringing any moisture out of the air. If there's a 30 percent chance in Elkins, there's about a 50 percent chance in the high country.” 10:00:53 AM 10/02/02 “Absolutely, the rain coat goes everywhere! I don't think the pants are gonna go though.” 12:02:38 PM 10/02/02 “BAD NEWS! I broke my kneecap, and got 10 stitches on Sunday.... my hiking plans for Oct. are bust. Have fun without me, and be sure to post pics.:(” 12:10:31 PM 10/02/02 Good God, Buddha “Another recruit for the gimp club. Sorry to hear that. Heal soon.” 12:22:24 PM 10/02/02 “some of you folks will do anything to keep out of the rain. get well soon guys.” 12:23:02 PM 10/02/02 “HOW? Details man! Where you chasing a woman? I hope you heal quickly BB. =( We'll miss you.” 12:25:44 PM 10/02/02 “er..."were you chasing a woman?"” 12:26:27 PM 10/02/02 “Naw, this injury was man against nature! I still may try to car camp with ya'll when dud comes to town on Friday night, depending on how I feel.” 12:32:57 PM 10/02/02 “Ouch!” 12:56:04 PM 10/02/02 irate longshoremen??? “this broken kneecap didn't have anything to do with any labor negotiations, did it bubbha bear??” 2:13:46 PM 10/02/02 “LMAO Gonzo! OK, you're on to me, the lawyers at Squires Sanders and Dempsey put a hit out on me.” 2:17:08 PM 10/02/02 “What have you been doing on your knees Buddah?? I thought you were better than that!?” 6:37:12 PM 10/02/02 “He just got jealous of all the attention I was getting, LOL.” 6:50:46 PM 10/02/02 “Have a great time on this trip. Since I can't be there to ruin if for you, you'll all just have to do the best you can. Post a trip report and photos when you get back. I'll look forward to reading it.” 6:52:30 PM 10/02/02 Buddha Bear “G00SE says you're supposed to be breaking kneecaps, not the other way around. Don't you work for a union? Sorry to hear about the knee, it's an awful shame. I hope it gets better soon! Same from G00SE. And, we hope to get to see you on Friday anyway. Forecast be damned, I always pack raingear. It helps increase the odds of having good weather ; ) .” 7:48:29 PM 10/02/02 “All packed and ready to go. I have to work 6 hours this morning, then I leave right from here and start picking up TT'ers on my way east. I expect we'll be at the trailhead noon or early afternoon tomorrow. I'm driving a full sized van with plenty of room to shuttle some people. Is someone more or less co-ordinating this thing? I'll have a cell phone with me. Should we try to meet up on the way in, and get the shuttle over with right away?” 6:57:22 AM 10/03/02 “If Buddha Bear is going to car camp, where? Red Creek CG up at Dolly Sods will fill up quick on an ideal weekend such as this. There is Blackwater Falls SP just north of Davis. If those CG's are full there is a last refuge. There is a private CG between Dry Fork and Harman about a mile west of Rt 32. It is a Mennonite place, very nice people. There is a sign on the east side of Rt 32 directly across from a bridge over the Dry Fork River. Its across the river and up a holler with views of The Plains. In '94 we though we'd go car camping at Dolly Sods on just such a weekend. There were no sites available at Red Creek CG and Balckwater Falls SP. A local tipped us off to the Mennonite place and my family and another family had the place to ourselves.” 7:15:19 AM 10/03/02 “i thought buddah bear was refering to car camping with the group in michigan when walkindude goes there. le subtil, i will be at the trailhead around noon on friday. everyone can unload and we can move your van to the come out point at that time (if you don't mind). it will give us the most capacity for getting a group back to the start point on sunday. are we going to need to carry water in the first night? will there be a filter spot on saturday?” 8:37:04 AM 10/03/02 “for that matter, we can move two vehicles to the come out point for sunday at that time. we'll just wait till we have three there. i will be in a pickup now, not an expedition. i will leave it at the come out if we need it to haul packs back on sunday.” 8:40:17 AM 10/03/02 “baume 66 - I e-mailed my cellphone # to you.” 8:48:45 AM 10/03/02 “10-4. did you send it to mccracdb_1@msn.com? that is my current email, not mccracd@msn.com as is under my username here.” 8:51:20 AM 10/03/02 “one more thing le subtil. i won't have a cell phone so i can't send you a number. if for any reason i won't be there in the noon time frame i will call you. if you do not hear from me, i will be at the trailhead we are going in on. have a safe trip.” 8:53:59 AM 10/03/02 “Tom if you want to meet up Ill be there in town tonight! so early morning breakfast is good, if you want?? email me your email so I can give you my cell # if you need! Im going tio email it to baume66, if im not here maybee he will relay the message! ofcourse if you want baume??” 9:00:58 AM 10/03/02 “10-4” 9:06:55 AM 10/03/02 “thanks, ill see you all in WEST VIRGINIA!!!!! Im out yahoooo!” 10:54:20 AM 10/03/02 “prowler- Ya hittin' Davis tonight? I'm gonna try to get out of Baltimore at 4 or 5 AM tomorrow. That should put me in the BIG town of Davis by 9 or 10 AM. See ya at the diner there.” 11:20:27 AM 10/03/02 “tom terrific, if you send me your email, i will send prowler's cell number to you tonight. mccracdb_1@msn.com” 11:51:34 AM 10/03/02 “Wilco” 11:59:16 AM 10/03/02 “summerteeth” 12:02:18 PM 10/03/02 TT “It's not a diner; it's a sit-down restaurant.” 1:00:46 PM 10/03/02 Deposit on Your Next Trip “I've been following your thread for sometime. I wanted to join you guys but it turns out I can't do it this weekend, maybe next trip. I love that area. In fact I've been to Dolly Sods (just across the street from the RP) twice in last 60 days. Here are my 2 cents as a small deposit on your next trip: - WV45 between WV32 and Laneville is charming, definitely not boring, imo. - I think the restaurant in Davis you guys talking aboout is SIRIANI, an Italian restaurant. They have served tons of pizza and beers to skiers and hikers for many many years. When in Davis, just open your car windows and follow nice aroma. It's on main drag (WV32). A perfect palce to stop by for APRE-HIKE nourishment. - While you're on high ridges, pay attention to sky. There have been a couple of reports recently on sighting of Northern Lights (yes, dancing lights on night sky). - While you're in the area, consider doing a quick dash to wither Rorhbaugh Overlook in Dolly Sods (3.6 m RT), Chimney Top in North Fork Mtn (5.8 m RT) or Seneca Rocks in NFM (2.6 m RT) BEFORE or AFTER your hike. That's total sum of 8 cents. Receipt please. Have a great trip!” 1:31:02 PM 10/03/02 “It's NOT Siriani. I think the restaurant I'm talking about is actually across the street from Siriani. The restaurant I'm talking about is a home-cooked meals restaurant, not Italian. It's part of an inn or B&B.” 1:37:39 PM 10/03/02 “thanks for the input biertree, i hope you can join us someday. i may check out seneca rocks on sunday afternoon. don't mind geobeet yelling. he's still mad he won't be making it.” 1:56:48 PM 10/03/02 “and geobeet, thank you for all of your input also. you seem very knowledgable of that area. it is good to get many different points of view.” 1:57:56 PM 10/03/02 “Yelling? I'm not yelling. I'm just clarifying. But you are right about being mad I'm not going to be there. Next spring fer sure. One more time, have fun. Keep an eye on the weather. Lili could be a big low pressure system bringing lots of rain before the weekend is out.” 2:00:16 PM 10/03/02 “It sure is! Thanks. Still wish you were coming along with us. Another time. =)” 2:00:40 PM 10/03/02 “I've hiked Red Creek Plains, Roaring Plains, and bushwacked to Porte Crayon. It is about the finest stretch of trail I've ever walked. I can see long stretches of trail in my mind's eye. You folks are in for wonderful treat. I have many more hikes in the Roaring Plains area. I will be back. The entire Dolly Sods-Roaring Plains, Canaan Valley, Canaan Mountain, Blackwater Canyon area is filled with many delightful hikes. Otter Creek, as somebody suggested, is another great place, but I'd much rather stick to the area I just outlined. For all I might know about it, there are still many surprises left to me. It will be fun discovering them.” 2:06:46 PM 10/03/02 Godspeed In Your Recovery “Dang Mr.Buddha, that sucks! I'l bet it smarted too? On the bright side, now you'll even have more of a chance to score what with the sympathy card to play and all. Now you'll definitly find a woman to play doctor. Now you won't get to experience "My Road".” 3:42:30 PM 10/03/02 baume “Thanks for the invitation. And I will take it as a receipt. Have a great time. Geobeet - Thanks for your many valuable input of the area. Try "Morning Glory Inn."” 4:17:53 PM 10/03/02 “I actually plumb forget the name of the place, but I do know where it is. I may try Siriani sometime. I often get a craving for good pizza when I've been out for awhile. It does not take much for me to head into Davis for a day, stop at the wildlife refuge, and maybe a trek down to Blackwater Falls. Nice daytrip diversion.” 4:21:53 PM 10/03/02 “I won't be car camping. The drive would kill me guys. I should be in PA right now..... this is really bummin' me out. OK, I've planned two TT trips, and have attended niether of them. I'll never plan a trip again. Have fun you crazy bastards!” 5:49:54 PM 10/03/02 Let's Get Ready To Rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrumble “Got'sk the MI folks here and almost ready to hit the road. Some Yahoo says it'll take us ~4.5hrs to get there, so we should be hitting ther area around +/-12noon.” 6:25:59 AM 10/04/02 “i'm outta here right now. same eta.” 6:27:39 AM 10/04/02 Jump to Page << prev
