Does it have an actual old school view finder? If so use this instead of the screen. Problem solved. If not... good luck. This is a constant problem with the smaller digi-cams. (Mine included!)

Is this ine of the bigger DSLR's or a small pocket type camera?
I have a Sony cybershot that's 10.something MPX that I'm still learning the in's and out's of. I do kinda wish it had a viewfinder for the same reason. Other than that it's really nice. Touch screen, video, auto smile sensor pic taker thingy, and amazing resolution even when you zoom in on ultra small things with-in the pic after it's taken. Now I just gotta learn how to use it well, and find a hard sided case that will work with the daisy chains on my pack straps because it's not very shock resistant so I'm nervous about breaking it.

Check on the menu. Some cameras have a brightness selector for the display. You can choose to make it brighter and easier to see.

Check through this multi-page review: http://www.steves-digicams.com/2008_reviews/fuji_s1000fd.html

You may find what you're looking for.

Also, some manufacturers send you an abbreviated manual and make you download the full manual (from disk or web).

I bought a camera kind of like yours and now wish I had a small point and shoot again. My camera is pretty big as far as digitals go and it goes on maybe 25% of my trips any more.

Steve's Digicams is THE source for all things camera. Greta site.

I decided to take a canon g12 with me on my JMT trip. Read really good things about it, but wondering about battery life. I traded the camera, and it came with 4 batteries... you think 4 batteries will be enough for the JMT? I'll take at least 2000 pictures, make a couple movies...
Reviews state to expect about 370 pics, wondering if that's correct..

my old powershot used AA, that was so much easier... battery life was awesome. btw...if someone wants to buy that one...lemme know :D

Gem, my Canon Powershot A1100 IS uses 2 AA batteries and I use the Energizer Lithium for extended battery life. Don't forget to get a large memory card to hold all those shots. Which model is your old powershot and how much do you want for it. I just got 2 new cameras but am still looking for a used Rebel dslr that would work with my lenses.

yeah, cameras using AAs are great. that's the reason why I love my powershot, that and it has an awesome zoom. Battery life is best I have seen.

I want $170 for it. it doesn't have any scratches on the lens or screen. works perfect. the rubber on the grip is a bit worn, but that's about it. Haven't tried to sell it yet, will prob put it on ebay after the JMT, if no one wants it.

someone on ebay selling one as well:
