“Just ordered a new digital camera:
FUJI FinePix 2600
After hiking with Pennsy Hiker and Corporal Nasty, I just had to get one. Actually, I already have a digital camera, but it's really really old and I lost the memory card for it.
I figured after about 15 trips, this camera will have paid for itself with the amount I spend on piece of junk disposables and film developing. And I like taking lots of pictures to boot. That's my justification, dammit.
Anybody have one of these puppies or no someone who does? It's gotten really good reviews, had all the features I was looking for (x3 optical zoom and at least 2 megapixels).
Also got a 128 MB memory card.”
“know, not no.. guess I can't think straight after spending that much money.. :-)”
“Actually, I know someone who has that camera- Excellent shopping there Artex. He loves it.”
Thats my camera!!! :)
“I love mine!”
“I love mine,, wouldn't hit the trail without it,,, the Macro setting is super for close ups of flower blooms, or bugs (if your into that sort of pics!),,,, I fly fish, so the insects are of a bit of an interest to me!!!! (just don't drop it in the stream!!!!!!!!!!),,,,”
“Sweet! I can't wait to get it and put it to good use.”
Macro ...is fun!
“Hey - What happened to your statement "hope you don't mind if I drop you an e-mail sometime once I narrow down some choices to get your opinion?"
Wow, you act fast. Act quicker and cancel the order. Anything but that one!!!
Just kidding. I think you'll do great with the 2600. 2mps and the 3x zoom should work well. At the highest resolution (1600x1200 fine jpg), you should get about 160 shots on that 128 card. Plus, Fuji makes good stuff.
Have fun with it!”
“LOL @ Pennsy! I was going to, but felt confident in my research, which was based on your advice, by the way. I went the at least 2 megapixels and x3 optical zoom route. Did numerous searches based on that criteria and came up with what looked like a solid buy for less than $200. Read several reviews on it, which were overwhelmingly postive. I just couldn't wait so I got it!
And after seeing that Tiger Lily photo Wind Walker took, I REALLY feel good about my purchase now.. great detail in that pic! :-)”
“Yeah - WW pics are pretty sweet. Us bald guys do ok with cameras.
Less than $200? Dang, that's a good deal. You da shopper!”
“Ooh. Yah I want one of those. Oh boy I can torture myself over it for the next year or so! YAY!”
“Where did you buy that camera, Artex?”
It's the Fuji Finepix 2600.. I can e-mail you more details when I get home from work this evening.”
“have fun with your new toy. I got a new digital and am just starting to experiment with it. Cool stuff!”
“Stikmon, yeah I love mine! You can see some of the pictures I've taken with it on the link in the Buttkickin' Adriondack trip report thread, if you haven't already. Definitely a very sound purchase.”
I Dig It
“My parents got me for my birthday one of the new Kodak DX3900 Zoom Digital Cameras. I've been wanting a digital camera for a while now....Thanks Mom and Dad!!!”
“Frijoles fritos, amigo !!!!.”
“Arrrgggghhh!!! I'm way out of practice. That should have been; "Frijoles fresco".”
“Welcome to the digital photo world.
I just dropped some major $ on a Nikon Coolpix 5700...and a little more $ on a 256Mb CF card. It'll come in handy on my New Zealand vacation next month.
Gear Slut did drop some serious money on that camera! How did you like it?
If anyone is looking for a photo printer, I just got the new http://www.compusa.com/products/product_info.asp?product%5Fcode=300759&csearch=&cmid=&pfp=srch1" target="_blank">Canon i950. The prints are really amazing with this thing. It’s hard to tell from a 35mm print, even at 8” x 10”. Much better than the more expensive HP 7550. It has however, revealed the shortcomings in my 1.3 megapixel Olympus.
I’m looking for a good 3–4 megapixel camera for under $500 or so. I’ve been looking at the http://www.steves-digicams.com/2002_reviews/c4000.html" target="_blank">Olympus C-4000 and the Fujifilm FinePix 3800. Anyone have any experience with either of these? Anything else in that price range I should look at?”
“Violin. I just got a Canon S30 and so far, all I can say is, IT ROCKS! 3.2 mp, small, aluminum clamshell body, 3x zoom, shoots one minute mpegs, has a stich feature (panoramics), macro, fully manual camera settings, etc. It's great.”
how bout a sony 5 megapix for 550?
anyway check out this site for great daily deals-this is how i got my killer pc deal.
just cut and paste this into yer address bar...u got look around this site...check the side columns or scroll to the bottom for digcams, notebooks etc...”
“I'd have to go with Rosey on tjhis one. I have a Canon A40, and I've compared it firsthand with several of my friends similar models by other brands. I'm generally not a brand-name loyal type, but I'd buy another canon in a minute.
The s30 is what I would upgrade to, were I looking to upgrade.”
“they even have a Canon s40 4mpix/3.6 optical zoom cam with 128 memory card for 499!!”
“The thing about he Canon cameras that I love is that thy're all fully manual if you like that, and they have the auto mode as well.
I've taken some pretty god pics, and mine is justa 2.1mp...
Here's a bunch of pics I took on a day hike last week.
The battery life has also been excellent with this camera.”
“To be honest, I should mention the downsides I've noticed.
Only came with a 16 MB card and it fills up fast. I saw at Fry's they carry a 1 GIG card now!!
Battery burn time is lackluster. Will have to get a second battery for it.
Other than that, it's killer. Decent software bundle too.
Check out bhphotovideo.com. Not the cheapest, but they're in NYC and have been around 30+ year. A real photog shop not a fly-by-night .com operation...”
“davexx - CompUSA is sold out of that Sony already but I do love clearance deals. That's a link to bookmark - thanks.
Can the Canon accept any kind of lens attachments?”
I think Phaed's camera, the bigger A series, will take lenses...”
“go to the cam review that is provided with the sony cam and do a search.Keep checking the sony deal cuz they keep adding stock on this site!!
I know upper end canon accepts 35mm slr canon usm lenses. This cam may just accept em.That would be f'ing sweet...”
“Yeah, mine takes lenses, and it also takes aa batteries...”
A serious hobbyist friend pointed me toward b&h too, rosey.”
“i bought a nikon lens from b+h...check out photo.net-major photog site....”
“B & H is good. I've never bought from them, but know plenty of people who have.... I buy all my film from Adorama, which I consider on par with B & H.”
“I bought a wide angle lens for my mini digi cam from Admorama. It twas a good deal!”
“Mrs Coop just gave me my Valentine's Day gift - a new Canon Powershot S230 - what a sweet little camera. Just starting to play with it now. No more waiting 4 days for the disk at the store. I've got a lot to learn though.”
“Phaedrus - where do you live - hose pictures almost look like Middle Earth. Nice shots.”
“Hose? - those”
“That is a very nice wife BC. Great present. I looked only 6.5 oz!!!”
“Tango - you are 100% correct. She Coop is my favorite woman in the world. Yeah - it weighed in at 6.4oz without CF card or battery, so 7 oz is proably the trail weight. Nice and tiny too!
Now I can take pics with you pros.”
“Au Contraire! Do not include me in that. You are talking to the girl who's battery died because she didn't charge it! Before coming on the trip!!! LOL at me.”
“That was a bummer.”
“anybody used the Casio EXZ77 ?
last edited: 12/20/07 4:35:39 PM”
“WOHOO!!!! I have a new camera!!!! I can flood tt with pictures again!!
er...once I figure out how to use this thing.....its a bit more complicated then my last one...”
“Holy crap. I don't think it'll fit in your pack, though.”
“Fly that thing over Mount Rainer Aug 1...
Four arrays of 92 5-megapixel chips eaches.... 1.84 gigapixels. And it weighs 500 pounds, LOL
That's no toy helicopter carrying it either! Hovering at 15,000 ft for twenty hours at a stretch? It ought to be great for SAR, though ---- I wonder if it does infrared?”
“I got a Fujifilm S1000fd
12x optical zoom 10 megapixles
...great camera....but I can't see very well in the daytime to take pics....it is my first digital camera...
I am a newbie...
...I tried taking off my sunglasses....helped a little....”
