I been peekin in.....making sure ya'll behave!!!!” 6:42:39 PM 2/23/10 “Morning...our temperature for the day already peaked a couple of hours ago. It's been dropping since. The weather peeps reduced our chances for snow, but it is drizzling outside. It's very gray and dark out. Makes me want to crawl back in and hibernate some more.” 4:38:16 AM 2/24/10 “at least you got sunshine yesterday. Nothing new here. Held hostage by a 4 week old, lol. =)” 5:12:13 AM 2/24/10 “Good morning! It almost never rains in this part of California, but we've been getting plenty. Something about a baby in the ocean...” 6:47:23 AM 2/24/10 “here in the southern portion, i have blue skys and fluffy clouds toejam.” 7:21:53 AM 2/24/10 “What are the chances we'll get a second snow day this week??? Yeah, slim to none. But I'm still hopeful.” 3:00:29 PM 2/24/10 “$@%(@&@@%)!!! Burned my mouth with the coffee this morning. Adding a bunch of milk cooled it off too much, and I thought 30 seconds should be fine. I forget how powerful our microwave is. Looks like it will be a lovely clear day here, around 50 degrees or so. I was asked to participate in an anonymous survey of our school, which has had powerplays from the superintendent playing hell with leadership and school "performance." Their definition has nothing to do with learning and all about test results and how much money they can get. The teachers are catching the brunt end of all the pi$$ed off parents' reactions and "Bad performance" results. It has very little to do with the teachers and everything to do with administrators' attempts at political and social engineering.I let them know what I thought of the whole thing and the individuals involved. :P” 4:22:39 AM 2/25/10 “I struggle with the more powerful microwave issue too. Burned my throat on squash soup two days ago. Trying to eat and nurse at the same time, starving, I took a spoonful and it being too hot to keep in my mouth and with no place to spit it out, stupidly decide to swallow it! Ouch.” 5:07:20 AM 2/25/10 “I was just out in the back yard and took a bunch of photos of crazy ice crystal formations on our deck. They look like fractals or crazy flower prints.” 5:18:55 AM 2/25/10 “I'm the first one up this morning...I got up at 6 am, Laurel wandered down a little after 7 am and went back to sleep while watching animal planet, and HPM's still asleep. He usually sleeps in every weekend, but he's got a nasty cold (so does Laurel) and it's hitting him hard. They're snoozing, and I'm headed outside to enjoy a crisp, just at freezing morning in the garden with the yard at half a million songbirds.” 5:13:17 AM 2/28/10 Hugs. “Good morning. Just listen to that girl. Life can sure be good. last edited: 2/28/10 6:31:58 AM” 6:30:29 AM 2/28/10 “it's a beautiful crisp cool morning, i love it! Good Morning everyone!” 9:41:55 AM 2/28/10 “I actually got a lot done this weekend, yay! The onions and peas I put out in the garden last weekend laugh at 20 degree temperatures. The peas are starting to sprout and the baby onions are growing already. Sweet. I had to take the top off the seed started that had all the cauliflower, swiss chard, and spinach in it because they grew so fast ans are now too tall for it.” 3:59:30 PM 2/28/10 “another fine day” 4:52:05 AM 3/01/10 “Oh my, the SUN is shining and it's warm(ish), and someone has brought dinner for us, and another someone is coming to watch my baby so I can grocery shop in peace! It is a day full of blessings.” 6:02:24 AM 3/01/10 “it's wonderful morning, blue skies and big fluffy clouds. the rain made everything seem clean. i'm off to a psych appt this morning and i'm happy cause she's the one i was seeing for a whole year before and i like her. we are beginning again. she get's me. i think i'll find a hike on the way home somewhere.” 8:46:50 AM 3/01/10 “i might even stop into Scout headquarters and buy a new hat!” 8:47:55 AM 3/01/10 “You wild woman.” 5:05:56 PM 3/01/10 “Where's my snow, dangit!” 7:25:51 AM 3/02/10 “NGB just left Knoxville and said it was snowing up there. We were supposed to have snow in Jackson, MS this week, but I think we dodged the bullet.” 7:29:57 AM 3/02/10 “EH, it's sleeting out now. Yuck. It will be fun picking Laurel up from school this afternoon. The parking lot at the school is a death trap. It ices over very easily, holds water on the driving surfaces, is on a pretty good slope, and many sharp turns are required to navigate through it. Not to mention all the people who walk right in front of moving vehicles, and I'm not talking about the kids. The kids know better. Their parents, well, not so much. All in all, it's fun with all wheel drive. ;)” 7:39:23 AM 3/02/10 “Good morning! having coffee waiting on the furnace guy!” 5:41:56 AM 3/03/10 “Oh geez, Div, that stinks. It snowed heavily most of yesterday, but very little accumulation. Drat.” 5:47:46 AM 3/03/10 “sad news: they found the body of the missing girl, Chelsea King. my son actually knows people who knew her. they've already arrested the bastard who raped and killed her. i have cried for her parents and for a life cut short. and i talked to my daughter last night about the times where she has been so brave and smart and escaped her attackers. i'm proud and glad. i cannot imagine what Chelsea's parents are going through right now. Pray for them.” 6:14:43 AM 3/03/10 “Pray for me too - I have a stupid son... What do you do when you are scheduled to be 3 places at once? Guess you make sure 1 of 3 people is happy. Hope I see whales out the window again today...” 6:31:45 AM 3/03/10 “what a nice thought, whales out the window. i hope you get to see them too toejam. hey you live in california, right?” 7:03:12 AM 3/03/10 “it's rainy” 8:30:01 AM 3/03/10 “we have blue skies with big fluffy white clouds” 11:49:11 AM 3/03/10 “I finally caught the crud HPM and Laurel have; It's all in my lungs, and I can barely breathe. C'mon, Mucinex, do your magic.” 5:38:45 AM 3/04/10 “Whales out the window is good. Whales in the window is inuendo, and not appropriate for this thread. This is one of those mornings when I wish I had work. I'm so tired of being constantly broke. It's like watching the world go by without me.” 5:41:42 AM 3/04/10 “feel better Treebait. Last Dr's apt for me today. Should get the okay to lift again, lol. I've been hauling firewood and stuff for a few weeks now. Hopeful for a walk this afternoon. we have gorgeous weather. The sun is hining and all is melty. Supposed to hit 50° on Monday! Woot! The birds are all singing praises to Spring and I need to get out there!” 6:52:23 AM 3/04/10 “I've been thinking of going for a walk in the snow. Does it count if I just walk into the living room and look out the window? ”3:31:07 AM 3/07/10 “you make me laugh, i love you nowslimmer. it's a great day for motor racing! go carl!!! i had the loveliest day yesterday, and it's going to be another one today! i hosted a party here for my daughter and her friends and my sister and niece so that we could make her wedding invitations; they turned out beautifully. it was a cool rainy day and we had a fire in the fireplace all day long. ErinAnne and Kenyon came over the day before and spent the night, then in the morning we all worked together to clean the apartment. after that ErinAnne and i ran off to the store to pick up some food for the party and a few last minute items for the invitations, and some reed diffusers to make BrianSean's bedroom smell clean. what is it about boys that smell so horrible? LOL! maybe you guys can clear that up for me” 10:35:12 AM 3/07/10 “It's their cooties.” 11:13:01 AM 3/07/10 “LOL! Sass, you're awesome! how are you this morning? how's the baby?” 11:28:30 AM 3/07/10 “Morning Dizzy! She is doing better. Ravenously hungry all the time now that she knows what it's like to have a full belly. We had an eventful night last night, unfortunately. She's sleeping in and I'm up w/ Abby. Can't wait for my Man to be home so I can poke him in the middle of the night and say "IT's YOUR turn!" =) One more month and some weeks.” 4:42:06 AM 3/08/10 “treebait - How're you feeling? Have you started to breathe again?” 6:06:14 AM 3/08/10 “It was mid 60's here this weekend. I cut back my roses a few weeks back and noticed new growth on them on Sat. Some friends have a big welcome to Spring party each year. They call it their daffodil party because of the thousands of daffodil's they have planted around their pond. No daffodils yet, but I bet they had 150 people at this thing. We had a blast. Sun after church we took the kids to the school to let them ride bikes. We're scrambling for spring break ideas. We had planned for a year to go to Disney. The "baby" is 3.5 and is prime for the princess stuff at Disney, BUT the economy got in the way. A big trip idea might be camping at Cumberland Island. We may go simple and camp at Guntersville SP which is about an hour away. Decisions, decisions. I want something cheap but with lots of family interaction. It may not be a convenient time on the calendar for my wife for camping though. If that's the case I think my backup plan will be to take the older two backpacking to the Sipsey Wilderness. She wants to take the kiddos to see her folks and my folks part of spring break anyway and we grew up 1 hr from the wilderness. Her dad wants to go to Sipsey with us again to see the big tree, so I may backpack Sat and Sun with the kids, he can hike in with us Sat, but he'd have to hike out alone (this concerns me a little since it's on unofficial/unmarked trails.) We could hike out Sun about lunch, drive over, see my folks, spend Sun night and I could drive home Mon afternoon for work on Tues and she could stay the rest of the week. I need to get my ducks in a row and start researching Cumberland. Cumberland wasn't really on my radar. There is a retired couple from our church at this party. They're in their 70's and still backpack together. They'd taken a grand daughter camping at Cumberland a month ago, that came up, which made me wonder about it. I also got to meet their oldest son. He lives in Atlanta but was there for the party. He solo hiked the John Muir trail last summer. He was a cool guy to chat with.” 6:17:47 AM 3/08/10 “Hey Slim, I'm feeling somewhat better. I can make it up the stairs without stopping to wheeze, and I'm getting loads of goo out of my lungs. No more fever, either. My ears are still somewhat clogged, but at least they're not nearly as pressurized. I went to the Charlotte home and garden show yesterday with HPM and Laurel, and one of the vendors was selling lavender and peppermint stuffed neck wraps, that you can either microwave to heat up or stuff in the freezer to cool off. She wrapped a hot one around my neck and put a cold one across my eyes and forehead. Wow, those things felt amazing. She let me wear the hot one for about 10 minutes; it stayed hot, not just warm, the entire time. It caused the puffed-up lymph nodes in my neck to go down, too, and the lavender and peppermint opened up my sinuses and brought back my senses of smell and taste. I was glad for that. My sense of taste got wiped out by the crud I had. I didn't buy a neck wrap, but I got her card and a coupon for show pricing for when I do get one in the near future.” 11:20:42 AM 3/08/10 “Good. I'm glad that you're feeling better. "lavender and peppermint" sounded like the start of some kind of fancy drink! Interesting.” 1:35:35 PM 3/08/10 “good morning!!!!.... ...I am ready to retire...this work thing gets in the way of my social life!!! ...y'all behave!!!” 2:50:52 AM 3/09/10 Hugs. “Divinity - What is this? Have you been socializing without me?” 5:18:32 AM 3/09/10 “Day, you should do Cumberland. The whole fam would love it and it'd be an adventure. Then you can just dayhike it with pops.” 7:32:07 AM 3/09/10 “rosey, that's what I had in mind if I try it. It's about 8 hours one way. I'm sort of taking the hyway approach, if not now, when? Whenever the economy recovers I'll be more likely to take bigger trips (Disney, etc) so now is the time to do this sort of trip. Last summer my 3 y.o. LOVED the horses while walking around Cades Cove in the Smokies. She'd really enjoy them just randomly walking around at Cumberland. I need to get a decison made soon so that I can clear my schedule to be gone part of that week.” 8:14:04 AM 3/09/10 “Dayhiker, Cumby in the summer is quite hot, and the sand gnats are really, really bad. As are mosquitoes. Then again, if you're in the right area, the sea breeze is nice. We're headed to somewhere in the Smokies, during the first week of April. That's where Laurel wanted to go for spring break. Not Florida. :D” 8:19:28 AM 3/09/10 “The cumberland trip would be late March. I have toyed with the Smokies but my wife was concerned about the temps. I agree, I'd avoid south GA like the plague in summer.” 8:25:47 AM 3/09/10 “Yeah, this is true. The bugs can be bad, but that's summer for ya. Just make sure you get Sea Camp (there were showers and such when I was there 15 years ago). As long as there is a coastal breeze, it's pretty nice. Just spend the days out on the beach. Really nice. Night swimming is fun.” 8:25:53 AM 3/09/10 “Has Rich posted in a while? I haven't been checking this thread regularly and wondered how he was doing.” 2:51:00 PM 3/09/10 “I believe he posted on the bike thread recently.” 3:11:23 PM 3/09/10 Jump to Page << prev
