It's going to be a cloudy, humid day here, with storms in the afternoon. I'm trying to plan stuff out, but my brain is refusing to cooperate this morning. Since we can't make it to Nordhouse Dunes next week, we're going to the Smokies instead. Hangin' at Elkmont, and doing dayhikes, horseback rides (Laurel insists) and the like. I saw Gatlinburg was under flash flood warnings last night. I wonder how that went.” 6:16:19 AM 7/31/09 “Good morning, we have a rainy day today. Yesterday was nice out so I'm glad I went for a bike ride while the weather was nice. We had rain the other day too and it raised the water levels in the streams so it looks good to go trout fishing again. I received the results of my PET scan the other day and they weren't good. I didn't think they'd be that good with the lower chemo dose I was on so I'm not surprised. The two nodules on my lungs have grown some, but not a lot. Several millimeters, but not a doubling in size. I've been off the chemo for three weeks and won't be going back on until I see another oncologist to find out what to do next. My local oncologist doesn't know how to proceed at this point since he didn't think I should stay on the Taxol and Erbitux because the rash I have is bad enough that it's an infection risk. Now that I'm off all drugs the rash should subside. Dayhiker, sorry to hear about the wallet incident. I go to my endo tomorrow to see what my next step is. I've been feeling OK, but my labs just came back and I'm still quite far on the hyperthyroid side. I am PRAYING I don't have to do the radioactive iodine again. I think I'm ready to try some natural remedies. I've got a teacher friend who's mom is a naturopath and a chiro, with a background as a nurse. I think she's my next stop. I've been up at my mom's house, to Ludington, back to my mom's, to my uncle's house on the lake, and back home. My return home was sooner than expected as I remembered we had to go to G's family reunion. Less than 24 hours and we were there with a dish to pass and a VERY tired little girl. Had a good time, though. I'm realizing my summer is ending quickly. I have a math conference at the end of this week and hopefully that will kick me into high gear for planning my classes. I have to wait until then because she's on vacation this week. This rash is clearing up and it'll be nice when it's gone. Saturday, I went for a bike ride and covered 61 miles with a couple thousand feet of climbing. I'm hoping to go back there next week since the roads had good pavement and little traffic once you get to the higher terrain. Yesterday it rained on and off all day. Today, looks good outside, but more rain this week too. Lots of rain this summer. SG, I hope they can get your thyroid back on track. There was an article in our paper about someone wanting to try natural treatment for the thyroid, but it was for low thyroid. Leave it to me the provide some drama on the hike. I passed out on the trail talking to MSilver. He said I was only out for a few seconds. I only remember talking to him, feeling dizzy and then being on the ground when I woke up. I felt okay afterward so we continued on. I think when pressed the artificial larynx into my neck I put it right on my carotid artery and cut off the blood supply to my brain. I have low blood pressure sometimes so that doesn't help either. I'm glad I went for my bike ride early enough since I wouldn't want to get caught in those. I found out yesterday no more chemo for me. I'm not sure if that means for good, but at least not anytime soon. The tumor board reviewed my scans and determined all that the drugs would do is make me sick. Instead I'll have another CT scan in 2 months and my thoracic surgeon said he can remove the nodules. He said I tolerate surgery well. Either that or they can use a Gamma knife/STR radiation to get rid of them. I didn't expect to hear that, but I look at it as good news.
