Its only 10:15, and I've been VERY productive today. Found the kitchen countertop after losing it about 3 months ago. I don't know what I'm going to do with all that space. Next is the junk drawer and pantries. Whoo-hoo! Its raining like cats and dogs (though I don't actually see any animals except for birds). Great day to stay inside and clean!

My spinach bolted too, I just thought my garden was weird. Hope I can get to a farm stand today to get more zucchini - I still haven't made any zucchini bread yet.

RichB, I'll pray you stay fever free!

Divinity....
Nope, I just working out knitting. I'm on an afghan for Abby and after that's done will try to learn how to knit in the round and do cable stitch to make a balaclava/helmet liner for Joe. I found many helpful videos on You Tube. Maybe they have tatting instructions too?

I just used my regular old banana bread recipe and heated the oven to 325° (instead of 350°), sprayed straight sided canning jars w/ Pam, filled them half way full, put em on a cookie sheet and baked them for 45 minutes. Once done I slapped the lids,(sterilized in boiling H2O), on and put the rings on. They sealed as they cooled. I love that ping sound! I found instructions for cake (from a mix) in canning jars and used that temp and length of cooking time, but used my own bread recipe. I plan on doing home made carrot cake and other quick breads too. I figure that I can test for doneness all day w/ a bamboo skewer if need be.

Don't want to get up, I had a cat pulling on my hair all night. I have to go to the sheriff's office this morning, to pick up my purchase permits. Whoopee.

It's Friday. Does that mean I have to eat fried fish with my in-laws again?

I remember going to Miss Whats-her-name's with my grandmother for quilting bees. The hoop-thing was setup in a cramped, upstairs room with a close, vaulted ceiling. A dormer provided most of the light in the bright, white room. There would be three or four Sand Mountain, Alabama magnolias seated around the hoop. They would all be talking at the same time; never looking up, but focused intently on their swatches and needles.

That afghan will someday be Abby's most prized possession, as a musty old quilt is mine.

lol, I just finished the same thing. Dad's coming ober for dinner tonight and is also going to take a peek at my leaky dishwasher.
I've found a recipe for honey mustard grilled trout. You slice onions 1/2 inch thick and lay them on the grill, then put the trout on top of the onions so it doesn't stick. The glaze is apple cider vinegar, mayo, honey, mustard and red pepper.

So, bathroom is clean, kitchen floor is clean, food will be easy to prepare and I am taking the dog for a walk prior to the rain!

Divinity, I'll trade you some knitted dishrags for a vintage pot holder!

Good Morning! It's still dark here and fixin to storm. I love mornings like this when I don't have to go anywhere. Think I'll grind myself some decaf beans just for old times sake.

Birch is finally in Iraq, safe and sound. No address yet. Today I plan to pack up boxes so they are ready to go.

And Miss Abby's new pack has already shipped to our local REI. I bet we get to pick it up on Tuesday. I'm so excited!!

Have a good Saturday yall.

Sass, you feeling better? I hope so.

Evie and I are headed to my brother's house today. We haven't seen them in quite some time, though they live 45 min away. G is playing in the church league softball tourney ALL day. Games at 9, 1PM, 3:30, 5 and hopefully 6:15. Well, he hopes to be in the last game, I'd rather have him home. I wonder if the rain will hold them up today.

I had a terrible night for sleeping. My heart was racing again and I just couldnt' fall asleep. I finally decided to take my meds a bit early, and then of course I feel back asleep for ~45 min until E woke up. Hoping for a better night tonight!

Nowslimmer is living with his daughter on an interim basis. However, she did say he was going to take his drivers license exam soon.

I will try to get an update.

Much needed rain in North Mississippi. It has cooled off some, but the humidity went through the roof. As soon as it gets back to the 90's, it will be sweltering.

It won't be long until we have a 95/95 day.

It's a great day in Northern Wisconsin. The weather has been just about perfect, a mix of rain and comfortably warm days, blue skies and gentle breezes. I'm headed out for a bike ride this morning, but first there's strawberries to pick and freeze.

It stinks around my house.

My Dad and I drained one of our ponds to kill the water moss that was taking it over. It's been years since it was drained.
The cranes and buzzards are having a great time eating the dead trash fish.
My nephews have had a great time shooting the cotton mouths as they come to eat the dead fish.

i could do a bunch of cutting & pasting, but all the info i found stated that very few people die from cottonmouth or water moccasin bites each year. but you're right, i don't have any poisonous critters up here. perhaps i might think differently if i was worried about my kids getting hurt.

what is water moss? couldn't you just rake it out?

I killed a cotton mouth in Arkansas that was colored more like a rattlesnake (without the pattern), a light to dark tan progressing to black in spots.

I had never seen on that color. In Reelfoot Lake in NW Tennessee, the cottonmouths are about 30 inches long and about as big around as your leg.

In NE Florida the mocs are anywhere from dull black to looking just like a copperhead.

A moccasin is born with the copperhead hourglass design, but loses it to a more even brownish-gray-then-charcoal to almost black as it ages. Even in old mocs, the pattern is usually faintly visible.

Good morning, I had a nice time backpacking over the weekend and it was great to get out again. Hiking in wet boots yesterday was a little rough and my feet are sore this morning. The rash I have from the drugs was PITA in the humid weather. Humidity and sweat make it worse. We got attacked by skeeters hiking near a swamp. Two minutes after we put some repellent on it started raining so they were gone with the rain coming down. They were bad in that spot and maybe hatched that morning. As soon as I'd swat five of them off my arm five more would be there to replace them. I'm looking forward to going out again.

Looking like rain today. I'm painting game show sets at church this morning and pottery w/ Abby and some friends this afternoon. Can't wait to see what they have for me to choose from at the shop. Thinking of a light switch cover for the nursery perhaps. Or maybe a "You are special today" plate for birthdays and celebration day dinners.

We picked up Abby's new pack last night. It is sweet. Really thoughtfully and well made. She only has four rungs on the harness ladder before it's too small (I'm thinking two years maybe)! The kid has got to slow down on her growing!!

Sucky day so far today. Laurel's cat Smokey was supposed to get "tutored" this morning, but the office tech didn't enter the appt. correctly. He got a physical, shots, and bloodwork, plus glowing praise from the vet on what a magnificent cat he is. As soon as I left the vet's parking lot, the service engine light came on...we all know how this one goes. I just ~happened~ to be tight up the road from where I get my car serviced. $260 later, I have a new knock sensor. I did notice my car smoking on hard accelerations on saturday, so that accounts for it. I'm not leaving the house for the rest of the day. It's too expensive out there.

Good afternoon, thanks, those mosquitoes were relentless they were attacking everyone at the same time. I turned around to watch everyone else putting DEET on and I noticed a cloud of mosquitoes in the air. It looked like those scenes you see on TV of the bugs in Alaska. I need to get my pictures out of the camera. I haven't downloaded any into the computer yet.

Fun day. We were supposed to leave for the Smokies today. We were at the beach Sat-Wed. The only way we could do both this year was to just take a full week off and do it. We got in late Wed and decided to leave later Thur than planned. I went grocery shopping then filled up and came home this morning. I was booking the hotel for tonight about an hour later. No wallet. Turns out, I must ahve dropped it at the gas station. I had $230 travel money plus the $100 emergency cash I keep tucked away in the back along with check card, and three CC's. I had two gift cards, library card, movie cards, ins., etc. I went back and no wallet so the lost wallet is now a stolen wallet. I go to the courthouse to get a new DL and run into two friends. One is a probation officer and another a judge. They said that the all seeing eye of Wal-Mart can probably see what happened. I went there but it was too long a view. Called the gas station and they would try to review the tape. I go to the police station and chat with the chief (he happened to be front and center and he and I know each other through Habitat for Humanity). He said to go on the trip and that it would be ok not to file a report now since we'd talked. He got a detective to call up to the gas station. Before she called she said two of that places camera's were down. Sure enough, the one I needed has been broken since August. Sucks.

Our plan was to drive up today, catch a movie in Chattanooga, crash in Cherokee, get up early and hike around Clingmon's Dome and down the AT to Mt. Buckley, drive to Cades Cove, make camp and then goof off the rest of the weekend. We'll pretty much get to do all of that except the Friday morning hike. Camping good, having to trash all of your cards and then resetup all your online stuff, bad. It could be much, much worse. I'm going to watch my credit like a hawk. All cards are canceled, but they do have my cards and DL.

That stinks Dayhiker. I hope your wallet comes back to you in the mail today!

It's the weekend peeps! I have to work tomorrow but Abby has a fantastic weekend planned. One friend is taking her to the beach today, and tomorrow she's going to Michigan Adventures w/ another friend. How cool is that?! And I get to grocery shop in peace, and take a nice long walk, lol.

Have a great weekend!

We have started out with temps in the low 70's for the second time this week.

Not bad for the end of July in Mississippi.
