Of 29 days in June, 26 have been raining...and the 3 days it wasn't were so hot and humid I wanted it to rain!

I finally had to work on the chicken coop in the rain last night, or I'll never get it done.

I'm worn out. I had to get up at 2:30 am on Tues to get to the airport by 4. Had a 5am flight to Hartford, CT. Got back home around 10pm.

The cool thing was we ate pizza at Frank Pepe's in New Haven, CT. I had a Long Trail Ale to go with it. Frank Pepe's was featured on the Travel Channel show, "Pizza Paradise." It was damn good pizza.

Morning, all. Still in hot and sweaty Florida, though I'm still weathering it better than many locals. Why these women get all dolled up and then hang out in the sun in heat and high humidity is beyond me. They look like melting clowns. Oh yeah, this is in my parents; 55+ neighborhood. So you have makeup running into creases. Scary, scary stuff. It's like a waxmuseum melting. Glad I'm heading home tomorrow.

I'm so thankful to be home again. Laurel's still in Florida, chillin' in the AC because she got a bad sunburn yesterday under my dad's watch. She doesn't like the way sunscreen feels, so when she thinks no one is looking she scrubs it all off. She has once again learned the Hard Way.

Yep, Laurel's usually blue-white. but get her in the sun and she tans up quickly. This is the first time she's ever had a painful sunburn. I just hope she doesn't get the blister-inducing burns I got as a kid. Lordy, those hurt.

I saw a funny billboard on the way home, advertising SC's artisan center. In huge, red letters the entire length of the sign...

Good morning, more showers are rolling through this morning. I was going to go for a long bike ride, but it'll have to wait until tomorrow when the weather improves. Last Saturday I was 25 miles from home and got rained on. I don't feel like having it happen again and tomorrow is looking nice. I had chemo again yesterday and no major issues other than my the inside of my mouth burning and a couple of sores here and there. My hair is starting to fall out again. I'm not sure it'll all fall out this time.
Have a nice holiday and weekend.

Evening, y'all.

On a lark we cleaned about 1/3 of the deck with oxalic acid this evening. We'll get the rest of it in the morning. That gives me a few days to let it dry out (sure way of bringing rain to the area) and then sealing it with penofin oil.

Took my new "toys" I inherited from my dad and grandpa to a gunsmith today. The guy who really knows the old stuff isn't back in until tuesday. Bummer. One small pistol is the reason my dad's great grandma wasn't scalped like her 2 sisters when she was young. Yep, back when Michigan was the wild (mid) west. Another is a 1903 colt semi auto pistol, actually around the first week of May in 1909. We could date it by the serial number. It's still usable, and I'm looking forward to that. It's a beautiful piece of steel. The Ruger 22 is a very over-engineered thing, ready to go. We may take it out to the range tomorrow with our neighbor if she's up to it. She very likely has to put down her rottie/husky/mastiff tomorrow. Sad. The dog is young, but has a lifetime of serious problems. Her entire digestive system is blocked (ate a rock at the dog sitters a month ago) her intestines have completely shut down and her colon dried and atrophied. Poor Blue, she's such a sweetie. One of the gentlest, most laid-back dogs I've ever met.

Good morning, the weather yesterday was great and I rode a 60 mile loop on my bike. That was the longest ride yet this season. It's looking good outside today too. I'm going fly fishing soon. When I rode by a few streams yesterday the water level looked perfect for good fishing from all the rain we had. I should catch a bunch of trout today.

Afternoon, everyone. Today's my birthday - I'm halfway through my 30's. Lovely quiet day around here - went to brunch after church, played outside in E's new pool, doing laundry and dishes. It makes me happy to have things cleaned up. :)

Warmer here today - yesterday was the coolest 4th of July I remember in a long time. Picked a few peas out of my garden. Things are growing very slowly out there this year.

Happy Lucky 13th, Sass and Birch! We have our 12th in a few weeks, but we've been together for 18 years (eeek!) now.

Darn rain missed us again, so we're back in drought conditions. 25 days without substantial (more than .25 inches) rain.

I've got The Verve's "Bittersweet Symphony" stuck in head now, so of course I have to play it on itunes. Oooh, shuffle just switched it over to TKK.

For some reason the mouse is acting up here this morning. The batteries are still relatively new, but I'm ready to throw this thing against the wall. A certain Someone Else around here keeps running the thing through water from the condensation from his sodas. Grrrr.

Same here SS, I keep thinking about it. I know how we felt during our miscarriage. It was awful. They were due within a month, is that correct? They've listened to the heart, seen ultrasounds, decorated a nursery. I just can't imagine as it's a much different scenario than what we went through. I wish I had their address. I'd like to send a card. There are 15 people with his name in Atlanta. Same amount for her. None of them list the other name as in household. They must be in a suburb, but I don't have a clue where to start looking. Don't want to stalk, just send a card.

Morning everyone.

If it's a dog, it comes to my neighbor. If it's a cat or something else, it comes to me...I now have 2 of 3 feral kittens glaring at me from a cage behind my chair here. They're tiny fierce balls of fluff, and their claws and teeth are insubstantial so no fears of getting seriously clawed. One is blue/gray with bright blue eyes still, the other one is a little tiger tabby (like mom) and its eyes are just starting to gray up. They are a little smaller than when I caught Smoky (who was also once a feral kitten and is now a big lush) HPM saw them and their mom dart under my car when he went to leave for work this morning. I think the last kitten is still somewhere in the under carriage of my car, and its mom (Tora, by the way. Japanese for tiger) was just waiting for me to walk away, staring at me from around a fence post the entire time. There's a dish of food under the car now, too. Looks like I'm not going anywhere today. :)
I'm about to look up the number for the local cat rescue. Fun. I prefer making monetary or supply donations to them, not this kind.

Morning. The roofers at my neighbor's house woke me up with the pounding a bit too early. E is just starting to stir. G would sleep 3 more hours if he could.

Unfortunatly for him, he has to go buy a new lawnmower today. Ours expolded yesterday mid-cut. We're both glad it expolded out the front and not toward him. The good news is a metal recycler guy drove by just as G put it out on the street, so it was gone in a matter of minutes.

I will be calling the doc againt today as I'm still not really functioning well. I'm so blessed to have the summer off, because I have NO idea how I'd work all day and still hold it together at home.

Hope you all have a good day.

Good thoughts for you, Lee and his dad, Div...

One of the 2 kittens I caught yesterday has already been claimed by a neighbor's son, dubbed "Carly" (he loves iCarly) been bathed, nails clipped, and acclimated to big dogs. The one I still have (now dubbed Stella) kept trying to get to Smokey (her uncle, actually) but I really think Smokey would tear her apart. He's having a really negative reaction to her, even with extra attention and treats. Wet cat food instead of dry kibble has a calming effect on him, though. Guess I'd better mix in lots of catnip, too. ;) I've tried contacting several cat and kitten rescue placement groups, but their vm's are usually full so I can't leave a message. The kittens are younger than I thought, too, only about 3 weeks old. Stella, of course, is also the litter runt. She's tiny. HPM's going to take a photo of her to work tomorrow, with the caption "I can has a home?" Total props to lolcats, there.

Happy Friday everyone.

We got an inch of rain yesterday afternoon, all at once. It was pretty cool. Literally. The temperature never got about 75, which I liked very much. Today is -maybe- going to reach 83. Nice and cool, relatively speaking.

Right now I've got Stella the kitten running around in here with me. She's bonded a lot more with HPM then me, which suits me fine, but I still have to work on getting her socialized. Her uncle, Laurel's cat Smokey, is turning into a major hissing, growling butthead with her around. I need to get her a home or to a kitten rescue STAT. Especially before Laurel gets home from her Florida vacation.

Happy Friday indeed! I get to spend the night at the Detroit Zoo tonight with my favorite Brownie troop. We get to do nocturnal hikes through the zoo, eat breakfast w/ the animals and it should be a blast.

Birch is no longer on American soil. Not sure where he is at this point. Could be London, Iceland, Spain, etc. Keep him in your prayers please! No idea when I'll get to hear from him again. Hopefully w/in the week he'll call and at least say he arrived safely.

Good luck getting rid of that kitty Treebait.

Can I go back to bed now? I was up until 3:30 am, then got up at 7:15. Ugh. Our favorite cat had an asthma attack (this is what I get for cleaning, I tell you!) and I had to run out at 2 am to get him appropriate medicine. I'm glad otc medicines do the trick for him. It was scary.

Treebait, you are just a few years away from being the "crazy cat lady". ;)

Zoo overnight was amazing. Loads of fun and we learned so much. I had no issues falling asleep and staying that way. The other moms=not so happy.

Treebait is a touch sensitive on that subject for some reason, sass. ;-)

We had a doozie of a thunderstorm roll through at 5 am...after 3 nights of not getting to sleep until after midnight. I hate screwed up schedules. My brother in law is trying to get Laurel to see the shuttle launch today, for the third day in a row. My brother and niece are visiting Florida, and are trying to see the shuttle launch too. I don't know if my brother is willing to drive down there again. He's not very patient. I think they may go tubing down the Ichnetucknee instead.

We had some storms too last night. We have gone over storm drills before. Big storms in the middle of the night mean run like hell to the basement. We've never had to do it. Emma thought last night was a big storm. She jumped up, told Reece that "mamma wants to see you," grabs Addie out of the baby bed (yes, we're past due to move her to a big gyrl bed), and race downstairs. I told her that it'll be a learning process about what's a big storm and what isn't but it's better to come down when you don't need to than the other way around. Addie slept in between us and Emma came down again when another line rolled through. She wound up sleeping in the floor in her sleeping bag. I'm just glad I did't trip over her this morning.

I have a friend who is giving me a hard time about not going out to the range this weekend to shoot watermelons and cantaloupes into oblivion. Not even after explaining the motorcycle wreck I saw back in 2001, when the rider's head exploded like a melon. Thanks for the flaskbacks. Sheesh.

I think I'll go back to the boring mundanity of doing the laundry, then tackling cleaning Laurel's room. That should take me the rest of the day and all of the garbage can space still available, plus loading my car with donations. Ugh.

I can think of a lot better thing to do with those poor watermelons. YUM.

The remedy for the malady you describe in para 1 would be to shoot a reasonable number of people in the head. That way, in your flashbacks, you would see exploding cantalope and watermelon. No fee. Merely being of service to a fellow human is sufficient for me;)
