I can't believe how big Evie has gotten!! Great pictures everyone. Here's my little Snow Fairy, or Angel. She went back and forth deciding which she was. I hope you all make it out to vote today. I found out my behind the house neighbor registered for the first time this year, on the deadline for this election. He's 37. I have a feeling the big lazy ______ will probably take one look at the lines and go back home. His wife told me he registered just because he happened to be renewing his Drivers License and they pressured him to go ahead and register. WTF? last edited: 11/04/08 4:48:14 AM” 4:49:26 AM 11/04/08 “Very cute pics of Evie and Abby” 4:56:50 AM 11/04/08 “Good morning, the Trail Talk children look so cute in their costumes. Looks like a decent day out there, no rain and mild. I had a biopsy done in my throat yesterday, but it's not as sore as it was yesterday. At least I can still eat. I was worried I'd have trouble with that, but didn't. I get results on Thursday.” 5:01:47 AM 11/04/08 “I'll keep my fingers crossed for you RichB.” 5:03:22 AM 11/04/08 “Thanks, I'm pretty sure the result is going to come back positive for cancer. He said it looked like cancer and with the symptoms I had it felt like it. On the plus side, it couldn't be there very long so I think there's a good chance of getting rid of it. I'll get the full story on Thursday.” 5:19:32 AM 11/04/08 I'm voting for you, RichB. “Hope the news is all good.” 6:23:00 AM 11/04/08 “What cute kids and costumes! I didn't get to take the kids trick or treating, instead I had an adult night out in a town that I knew would have tons of people dressed up - it was fun. It seems we were a curiosity even without costumes, as we chose to sit outside and eat and drink...justified the extra martini, LOL... I LOVED the extra hour on Sunday, felt like an extra day - we should do that every weekend! Kids and I are voting tonight, they are excited.” 7:20:37 AM 11/04/08 “Sassss...how cute!!!!! RichB...Lots of hugs!!!!! ...today we start a new era in American History....it is sorta scarey.... ....twiggy..I loved the extra hour too!!!....BUT...come 7pm I am ready for bed!!! ...ya'll have a GREAT day today...” 2:25:17 AM 11/05/08 “You too Divinity. Good morning!! I'll be honest, with this election I wouldn't have been too disappointed if either candidate won. Hopefully better times are coming and Obama takes good care of my three guys in the military. =)” 4:36:44 AM 11/05/08 “I'm kind of the opposite Sass. I just couldn't get thrilled about either one. But the votes have been cast and we have to honer that. I refuse to play the two Americas game that has been played for the last 6 years.” 4:39:27 AM 11/05/08 “Hoping you good results on your biopsy, RichB. Good morning all. The TT kids all look so adorable.” 5:17:53 AM 11/05/08 Hugs. “I'd say "Good morning," but I don't see it.” 6:28:50 AM 11/05/08 “Point of clarification, please. I have always thought that saying good morning to someone was wishing for them to have one, not that it was a good morning. I suppose I am wrong here too.” 6:35:35 AM 11/05/08 “hyway to hell - You're correct. I was just trying to express my feelings. Maybe I should have used a semi-colon in place of the comma. I do recall one man at work, who would talk a lot at any opportunity. Walking down a hallway early one day, he said "Good morning." to another guy. The other guy responded "I don't have time!" and kept moving along. last edited: 11/05/08 7:44:37 AM” 7:43:29 AM 11/05/08 “did you see the movie "We Were Soldiers" with Mel Gibson. (not did you see it with mel, but that mel was in it). Sam Elliot play gruff old sgt major Plumly and had a series of "chats" as a Sargent passes him every morning... Sgt. Ernie Savage: Good morning, Sergeant Major. Sergeant Major Basil Plumley: How do you know what kind of goddamn day it is? Sergeant Ernie Savage: Beautiful morning, Sergeant! Sergeant Major Basil Plumley: What are you a f#@cking weatherman now?” 8:11:11 AM 11/05/08 “No, I did not see the flick.” 8:17:43 AM 11/05/08 “He was awesome in the role!” 8:17:47 AM 11/05/08 “oh my, ns, that was an awesome movie. It was a war movie made like old WW2 movies. It was just our guys against their guys. They weren't the evil communist satin loving bad guys and we weren't the stoned out ignorant soldiers looking to frag the first officer they saw.” 8:21:38 AM 11/05/08 Her majesty, Laurel “Great costume. It looks more like she's going to her prom than trick or treating. I know that's the sort of thing we want to be thinking about with daughters this age ;)” 4:02:58 PM 11/05/08 “I liked the movie, "We Were Soldiers." I've been meaning to read the book and have never gotten around to it. Have you read it hyway?” 4:03:38 PM 11/05/08 “No I haven't read it, I think the book is called "WHEN we were soldiers". I own the movie though.” 6:45:36 PM 11/05/08 “ok..ok...I'm up!!!...coffee is good.... ..I'm packed & got everything almost loaded...wooo hoooo.....what a GREAT weekend...backpacking & seeing 2 of my kids....wow!!! ...I forgot what it is like to have a 4 yr old around...she came in last eve from an afternoon of playing with her cousin...dirt from head to toe...and tired...which I spelled to her aunt & she ( the 4 yr old) said "tired?" so I have to remember ...no more spelling!!!...so I figure she can soak & play in the tub while I pack...no...she needs an audience.......so I sat in there with her.... ...question.....how can kids sit in a tub of cold water?????...sheesh.....lol.... ...so we have a bowl of cereal before bed...& I am spelling words, and she is saying them....amazing!!!!..( she needed an audience while she ate too....) ...so she curls up on the couch with my down throw & her eyes slam shut...lol....this was before 7 ...lol...she is such a joy to have around!!! ya'll have a GREAT day today!!!...I have to work....& then heading for N Alabama...I'll check in tonight for a last minute before the bushwack trip... ...hugs...” 2:51:34 AM 11/06/08 “I never can remember the name of the movie. The name of the book is, "We Were Soldiers Once...And Young." I just remember that the movie is a play off the book name.” 3:22:34 AM 11/06/08 “ok, I messed that up. I actually had, "we were soldiers once" typed out then changed it to when we were soldiers. I should have looked it up. I totally forgot about the "and young" part. I wonder if my kids have ever been as precious as the pics you guys posted. Ever since they have been old enough to choose their costumes they have been things like, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Power Rangers, Batman, Witches, Monsters, Harry potter characters, and the like.” 4:41:21 AM 11/06/08 “We Were Solidiers is a fantastic movie. Top five war flick, definitely. Abby's walking around here with a kazoo hanging out of her mouth, humming away. She told me this morning she wasn't feeling well enough to go to school. I asked her what was wrong....answer: Hiccups!” 4:51:21 AM 11/06/08 “hpm/tb - I reread my comments and they sounded like a criticism. They weren't. The photo and costume are beautiful. hyway - I wish I had a digital image of the Ragedy(sp?) Ann and Andy costumes they wore. The Ann wig looked like the reggae hair on the martian in Predator. Good stuff.” 4:53:05 AM 11/06/08 “Playing hookie today...kept the kiddo out of school and we drove down to my folk's last night (watch out Hyway...we're nearby..muhahaha) Kickin it with Grandma today then back to the grind tomorrow. Have a good one y'all...peace OUT!” 5:32:10 AM 11/06/08 “mornin'! I'll have to rent that movie, sounds good. Laurel looks like a real princess in that costume. :) Ariana and I skipped Monday (she claimed her belly ached - I got her as far as to the school, then she had big eyed tears...) we hung out and I taught her to embroider, then we picked up her brother and we taught him to embroider...was a good day. :)” 5:59:02 AM 11/06/08 “Hey Twigeater!” 6:00:36 AM 11/06/08 “Love Laurels Hair..I bet that didn't last long.. I always enjoyed making my kids costumes when they were little..Then they got older and had to have the store bought crapola...oh well, its only money! Beautiful day in East TN. The sun is shining bright, not a cloud in the bright blue sky and low 70's for a high...LOVE IT!!” 6:12:22 AM 11/06/08 “Nah, I understood you Dayhiker. We got her dressed, looked at her, looked at each other and decided that we REALLY need to get a shotgun. The hair was a bit of a fight and Treebait did her up with some makeup. Laurel didn't want to smile cause it might mess up her makeup. That photo is also a link to the other photos. Treebait was a pirate. HPM was a slacker this year. :/” 6:29:45 AM 11/06/08 “It's rained 3 times today, but the weather is in the 60's, down from the 70's of the past few days. Generally it's 30-40 degrees cooler. Firewood is done and in for the winter; next winter too, I think. I've been cutting and peeling jack pine for fence posts lately. Way too much work. I'm thinking about raising a few beef cattle next year nd, thus, the need for a fence. My son has done a wonderful job training his dog. Maybe I could get him to train the steers to stay in the pasture and not need a fence:)” 12:59:18 PM 11/06/08 “Thanks for the rain Nimblefoot! I imagine you'll probably get some snow today and share that too. ;) I spent all dang day yesterday trying on formal dresses for a dining out thing Birch is taking me to. Found the perfect one and it cost less than $50. Got it home and the zipper is broken. Now I get to spend today returning it and starting over. I hate clothes shopping, esp frilly dress shopping! I'm tempted to wear an old bridesmaid dress. Don't want to embarrass that husband though. It would be a great day if it didn't involve the mall! Anyone going anywhere good this weekend?” 4:46:44 AM 11/07/08 “NGB, the curls lasted until I washed her hair. Her hair is naturally curly, and my neighbor gave me some spray gel that made doing finger curls around her face a heckuva lot easier. Now she wants me to do her hair like that for school, argh!” 4:53:35 AM 11/07/08 “Shoot, I'd be happy if Abby would let me blow dry her hair. That girl goes to school everyday with her collicks pointing four different directions. She looks like Junie B Jones!” 4:57:14 AM 11/07/08 “Better than Laurel's usual daily frizz. Even if I try to work with her hair, she still had bed head pretty bad.” 5:00:53 AM 11/07/08 “Emma should have been Junie B for Halloween since she is Junie B. Thur a week ago school as out for parent/teacher conf. We found out that Emma likes to wander the classroom talking with everyone. It's a major problem in class. Don't know why she waited to tell us this after 2 months. We suggested Emma be sent to the office and a big deal be made of it. We'd do the same. We'd also try to see if we could harp on it first and maybe avoid the office scenario. It didn't work. Emma was sent on Tues. Talk about wailing and gnashing of teeth. She followed that up with a nice conduct grade of "C" on Thur. She was going to get to do lots of girlie stuff with mom this weekend since the boys will be at the Boy Scout Encampment. If she doesn't pull it together today it'll be a long weekend in Mudville. HPM - Yep, buy a shotgun. I bought one 2 months ago. One of the chapters in, "Strong Fathers Strong Daughters," is, "Defend your daugther....with a shotgun if necessary."” 5:20:56 AM 11/07/08 “Good morning, nice picture of Laurel in her costume. It's warm out today and is supposed to be 68 later. Looks like a good day to go for a bike ride. There probably won't be too many more warm days like this. My pathology report yesterday came back being squamous cell cancer as I expected. The lesion is on my right tongue base in my throat and still seems small. My ENT surgeon said the best thing to do is to use robotic surgery to do a tongue base resection and remove some of the lining of my throat. He might do some reconstruction so that tells me he'll do more cutting than I expected. At least he won't have to cut my neck open using the robot. It has tiny "hands" that can go in through my mouth and do all the work from there, while the doctor sits at sort of like video game controls and operates the robot from there. He'll do the surgery 2 weeks from now and I'm looking at being in the hospital for 3 to 5 days. He said I won't need a feeding tube and should be able to eat while it heals. Maybe, but I'm sure this is going to be painful.” 5:27:59 AM 11/07/08 “Good morning. rainy day here in the city. I left Susie the wonder pooch, crashed out in our king sized water bed this morning. All I want to do is curl up with her right now and sleep :(” 5:56:24 AM 11/07/08 “Wow, thanks for the update. You'll be in my prayers. Speaking of updates, I haven't seen matta post in quite some time.” 5:56:46 AM 11/07/08 “RichB, I feel for you man. You'll be in my thoughts.” 6:00:43 AM 11/07/08 “sorry richB, I missed your post :( feel better soon :)” 6:02:46 AM 11/07/08 “mornin'! absolutely get a shotgun, LOL...I'm terrified of the kids becoming teenagers. Right now Ariana still thinks boys are yukky and I love it! :) she barely brushes her hair in the truck on the way to school...” 6:11:36 AM 11/07/08 “Aw dangit RichB. I'm sorry. =( It's pretty amazing to think a robot will be doing your surgery though. Thank God for modern medicine! Surgery only so far or do you get to follow up w/ other awfulness? I pray all goes well.” 7:01:58 AM 11/07/08 “Good morning, Thanks everyone. Sass, it's not likely I'll follow up with anything after the surgery. I can't have anymore radiation in my neck and I don't really want to go back on chemo again. It's looking like rain today, but not an all day rain. I'll get out and do some kind of a hike soon.” 5:36:44 AM 11/08/08 “Glad you get to avoid that misery. Rain here too and we're back down to the 40's for a high. I'm painting the living room today. Got the woodstove all cranked up so it's cozy and dry inside. Not much going on this weekend. I wish my pal Birch was around. Would be a good weekend to sleep in, be lazy together and cook huge hot meals. Not much ambition in the kitchen when he's not home for some reason.” 5:49:53 AM 11/08/08 “...Good Morning hugs!!!....I am sore & didn't want the weekend to end....BUT...they do.... ...I am going to be SO miserable at work today....thank goodness for drugs!!! (at least I am not flea bit & blistered, like my Savage gulf trip a few years back!!!!!) ...I hope all was well while I was out & about....by the way....anyone ever hear from Walkabout??? lots of hugs!!!!” 3:02:33 AM 11/10/08 “We had some cold scouts this weekend. Actually, there were some cold parents. The forecast low was low 40's. It was 35 Fri night and 30 on Sat night. I got up around 3 to visit the outhouse and someone was actually in there car with it cranked. There were signs everyone about not putting heaters in tents. I saw more than one propane bottle next to a tent with a hose leading in. I go to these things with the backpacking tent I use with the kids. Everyone else has 18 room Wal-Mart tents. Evidently, bigger is better. I was doing something next to the tent and this lady was eyeing me funny. She says, "How in the world do you stay warm in that little bitty tent?" I replied that I liked to bring the small tent for these because you can setup and break down in no time. I then said, that if you think about it, the small tents have a smaller volume of air to heat than a big tent and that a small tent was actually warmer. I was nice about it, but it cracks me up that because my gear doesn't look like what they think it shouuld look like that I get the skeptical look. Next time I may cook for Reece and I on the pocket rocket instead of the 2 burner stove. I haven't heard a total on the number of Scouts but it was alot. I'll post the head count and photos later, when I find out. I've never been to Talladega racetrack before, only seen it from the interstate. You really get a sense of size from the middle of that thing. It's huge.” 3:35:48 AM 11/10/08 “I used to get the same comments on the Trek Across Maine...someone once told me that was the smallest tent they'd ever seen... When Ana stayed over at Y camp this summer, I was supposed to bring a 2 man tent for her - thinking that the kids would be putting them up and taking them down...I guess I was wrong, as she ended up sleeping in a big tent with her friend, as her mom didn't believe two people could fit in the one I brought.” 7:44:52 AM 11/10/08 Jump to Page << prev
