I went a little crazy at Wally World last night and bought several 15 packs of 4" glowsticks. Everybody went home with one ( some people 2) and I also now have 7 different desserts (including the cake I made) sitting in the kitchen. I made a Mexican wedding cake. I colored the frosting (more cream cheese than sugar) with orange coloring, and I colored the coconut to sprinkle on top with black frosting coloring (paste type) first. I have him icing it, and keeping it up and I'm giving him aleve and switching that off with ibuprofen. I'll let him use the crutches for school. It can't be too horrible, he wants to go fishing with his brother, LOL! Or maybe the anti-inflamatories are finally beginning to work now. He was almost in tears last night. He kept calling out for me from his bed to come and do something to make it stop hurting. Mom's are supposed to do that ya know. Magical and all that. Now it's more like a head cold with bronchitis, rather than the flu. The severs aches the first few days, along with extreme temperature fluctuations, were killer. Now if only the chili pepper in the side of my neck (that;s what one of my lymph nodes feels like) would go away... I stopped at the local grocery after dinner, to pick up more meds for me and Laurel (she has a lesser version of what I got. We both caught it form the neighbor kid.) There was a traffic jam on the cold remedy aisle. Looks like everyone is sick. We were discussing the merits of various medications, then someone cracked a joke. Literature informed me that the viruses in the shot are dead and that it takes about two weeks for the immunity to develope. In other words it means that people do not catch the flu types in the shot, but can catch it from the outside world while the immunity is developing. I didn't realize your employer could force you to do that. What would they do if you just didn't want to? Maybe you have to sign something when you're hired saying you'll get it?” 11:14:22 AM 10/16/08 “It the healthcare part of it I imagine. She comes in contact with more sick people than we do. I've never taken one. Last winter 4 of the 5 of us got it including 2 of the kids who had already had the shot. A different strain hit us. It sucked big time. 4 of the 5 of us also got secondary infections a week later. The child that didn't get the flu got round 2 and one of the kids that did the flu didn't get round 2. We had about 3 weeks of fun. I had a fever over 103° at one point.” 12:07:12 PM 10/16/08 “This is the first year I have had a flu shot in ages. I had the flu both of the last two years. I too didnt have a choice in the matter (didnt even know what it was until after I looked at my records. I just knew I was getting 4 shots). Colds seem to be popping up and I guess it's that time of the year. I'm getting a flu shot Friday. I couldn't get one last fall because of the chemo drugs I was on. I found out last Thursday I don't need anymore chemo for now and can get the port removed. We met them for supper. Sat they all came to our house for the day. I did two beer butt chickens, my wife made an Asian slaw and baked beans. My mom brought potato salad and a Johnny Ray's chocolate pie. JR's chocolate pies are the nearest thing to perfection that exists in this world. We ate, watched the Bama/Ole Miss game, then I grilled smoked sausage and we had round 2 about the 4th quarter. Sun, I got up early to do some work on contracts, fun, then Reece and I took a walk. After church some friends came over to give us landscaping advice. I now have an excellent idea on how I want to finish the landscaping at the house. The couple that came grow and graft their own Japanese maples. I'll be getting some Japanese maples and dogwoods for free.
