At least this week is passing quickly. I can't believe I said that, knowing that just means I have less and less time to get everything ready (aka perfect) for the October shindig out in our yard. Many of the koi club members have yards so pristine and perfect its intimidating.” 3:37:59 AM 9/17/08 “I bet they've all lived in their homes for years and years too. That stuff takes time, or very well paid landscapers. I know what you mean SC. I feel bad if I don't get my bunny out for excercise every day. Poor guy was cooped up for a few days due to water.” 4:35:52 AM 9/17/08 “Bunnies can swim really well. ;) Once upon a time, when I had pet rabbits as a kid, a neighbor kid rescued a baby wild rabbit from where it fell through thin ice. I rehabbed it in a warm den for several days, and later we carried it back to where he found it. That thing would fit in the palm of one hand, it was so small.” 6:03:07 AM 9/17/08 “They declared us a disaster zone yesterday...which will make it easier for my neighbors and those in town to get aid who are still underwater because of lake george and deep river. I'm thinking of riding my bike over to lake george to see if the flooding has gone down at all yet. I think 51 is still closed so I shouldnt be compeating with any cars. (10 mintue bike ride for me) Then I'm going to take a few extra blankets we have to the boys and girls club on central (thats like 2 minutes by car from me) which is a shelter for evacuees right now. They said they needed donations today on the radio. Yestereday they had an addition 75 people rescuded and brought to the shelter. Some were hold outs because they didn't want to leave their pets. last edited: 9/17/08 6:45:33 AM” 6:44:40 AM 9/17/08 “Munster is still underwater and may be the rest of the week. They have no where to put the water at this point. We are dry as of this morning. Some lady that lives in a gated community was #&%!$ing to me abuout how she has 2 inches of water in her 6 million dollar home on the train last night. Then she complained how much she pays in property taxes and how this should not happen to people like her. I added, well who should it happen to? She said that she did not care, as long as it was not her. I had to catch myself from not saying my heart pumps piss for you.” 7:17:12 AM 9/17/08 “Wow. WK, you were very good to hold your tongue. I'm not sure I could have. Well, I went in to work to find someone had rescheduled all my appointments for this morning to Friday morning. Amazingly, no one knows why or who did it. WTF?! It's a wonder this place is still open it's soooo poorly run. Exceedingly irritating. Oh well, I got to go for a nice brisk 3 mile walk instead. I forgot to tell you guys I got thrown out of power yoga last night and sent downstairs to pre-natal yoga. It was so lame. I didn't even break a sweat. Sigh. Hence the need for the walk.” 7:28:21 AM 9/17/08 “Yikes sass! I guess they have to cover themselves ya know.... WK, I would of been hating on that lady...YIKES” 7:34:39 AM 9/17/08 “Wounded Knee - The lady may be right. Problems exist in our community because the local government has done nothing for years to improve an old drainage system. The old system works, but has insufficient capacity for the building that has been permitted. The government keeps giving out permits for more construction. This adds to the runoff, but they have done nothing to improve the drainage system. Their interest appears to be concentrated on gaining taxes from the property improvements. The same thing happened in Tulsa, Oklahoma, years ago. Ten-mile Creek used to drain a large area. A lot of expensive homes were build near the Creek and close to Southern Hills Country Club, a site of major golf events. Developement of the up-stream area provided volumes of water, which created flooding of the rich homes. At a zoning commission meeeting they discussed changing the zoning of some land for developement of a small, shopping center. When asked about Nine-mile Creek, the representative stated that they would straighten it along the edge of the property. The entire room of around 150-people stood-up immediately to protest. (Curves slow the flow of the water.) Just north of Melbourne, Florida, a community, Viera, flooded shortly after developemnt. The builders claimed that they did not expect five inches of rain to fall in a short time! Ha, It happens everytime a hurricane comes near the area and with even heavy rainstorms. I feel that governmental officials should not issue construction permits without being sure that sufficient drainage is available or developed.” 8:11:56 AM 9/17/08 “I don't doubt that their may be issues with the community she lives in. I probably should explained more, the snobby tone she spoke with, like her #&%!$ does not stink. She came off like because I live in a 5 million dollar home, this should not happen to me, but because you live in a 200K home, it should happen to you. Yes yes yes on your points construction permits. Our area is way over built and te water has nowhere to go. Take a look at some of the photos in the local paper's website http://thetimesonline.com/” 8:23:29 AM 9/17/08 “Yep, even Lake Michigan got covered and many fish were drowning. LOL.” 8:36:36 AM 9/17/08 “Sunday I could of fished from my front steps... Its still flooded in hobart but lake station looks a lot better now.” 8:49:08 AM 9/17/08 “I forgot to tell you guys I got thrown out of power yoga last night Sassafras 7:28:21 AM 9/17/08 wow.....that is something only a TT er could do....lol....go girl!!!” 4:28:54 PM 9/17/08 “Good Morning Hugs!!! ...tis Thursday!!!!” 2:59:44 AM 9/18/08 “WK - I don't think I've ever heard that insult before. My heart pumps piss for you. That's a goodie. Excellent come back though on the "well who should it happen to.." In that situation I usually get mad, and make a dumbass remark which makes me look like the idiot. Hmm, sort of like every argument I've ever had on TT. I'm on the local planning and zoning board. The developers engineer always has to present a drainage plan. The cities engineer reviews it and tells them what to change. Consider that the people up there on those zoning boards, in small places anyway, are unpaid citizens just like you. We ask the city engineer and the building inspector their opinion on each topic. Mr. xyz, are you satisfied with this? If they are satisfied from a technical standpoint and we're satisfied from a zoning standpoint, then it goes. P&Z is mainly lookinag at should this day care be allowed to go next to this existing bottle rocket factory, etc. Just an fyi.” 4:58:57 AM 9/18/08 “Evening, all. I was sick all of last night, so I moped/ snoozed through most of today, and finally feel human again. No idea what got me though. Most of my joints still hurt from it, and I had some wicked muscle cramps from dehydration. For anyone whose interested, a packet of Emergen-C mixed into a glass of Gatorade is mighty tasty with a pleasant light fizz. I had to go to Laurel's PTA/ curriculum night tonight. It's a brand new school, and several of the learning programs these kids are supposed to be doing aren't in place yet, because no one's sure about the funding. Is it the school's responsibility or the PTA's responsibility? Yikes. As it is, I have a big pile of "decodable" stories to tear out of big books, and fold and staple into little books for the kids. I hope I can find the stapler tomorrow. Only 3 weeks to go until the big club meeting here at the house, and I haven't accomplished doodle yet. I don't feel too guilty about it right now though. Tomorrow, I may dig out the pressure washer and wash down as much of the outside of the house as I can reach. Green house plus red clay dust and cobwebs equals yuckers.” 6:04:51 PM 9/18/08 “Hi all, Please send up prayers for my cousin's little girl who is having chemo, in preparation for a bone marrow transplant on Monday. The donor is her little sister. Thanks. I'm glad tomorrow is Friday. I'm exhausted. I *think* we finally figured out E's sleeping problem. We're now feeding her a 2nd dinner about 7PM. It kept her asleep 10 hours last night....let's hope it works again tonight. Sass, LOL on the yoga! I took a free class offered to the school district employees here when I was preggo. It was more like women's social hour than yoga, but it was fun. I haven't done it since! Anyone want any koi next spring? G wants to put some in his hydroponics unit at school, but we can't keep the koi after that. Just a thought.” 6:13:29 PM 9/18/08 “prayers on the way up s.g.” 6:37:27 PM 9/18/08 “Good Morning hugs!!!... ...Woooo Hooooo...it's Friday!!!... ...we leave tomorrow for my bestest friend Pat's wedding...wooo hooooo!!!!! ...ya'll have a GREAT weekend!!!!!” 2:30:32 AM 9/19/08 “Smiley, koi are a great source of hydroponics nutrients! ;) Seriously, they can be incorporated very easily. If not, google around for a local koi club. Many offer rescue services, and can take koi that people can no longer keep. Just don't let them go in local waterways, whatever you do.” 3:53:29 AM 9/19/08 “Smiley, she has my prayers. Speaking of which...I wonder how RichB is recovering? Work this morning and this afternoon is our first Brownie meeting. Here we go! Things are getting too busy around here. I'm pooped. I think I get to rest this weekend in between keeping Abby's mind off the fact her Dad is not home. That child acts like he's the Sun and Moon. He is pretty cool but sheesh, it's only four days! Have a great weekend everyone.” 4:26:00 AM 9/19/08 “Prayers offered. I lost husband of the year last night. We'd just gotten home from Open House at the school. We're standing in the kitchen. I have my back to my wife. I turn to face her. She has on sandals. I have on my regular shoes. She might keep the big toe nail. It freaked the kids out. All they know is mom dropped like a sack of rocks and is crying. They get upset and start smothering her to check on her. I got them back and then upstairs, got medicine, on the bed with feet elevated and then the kids in the bed. Hectic night. She was actually a trooper about the whole thing. That had to hurt like hell. She started quizzing me about how I hiked after doing that on a Thur night of a Fri-Sun hiking trip. I replied that I had a high pain tolerance. I got the eye roll and "Oh-please," because she knows better.” 5:05:34 AM 9/19/08 “Good morning all. Somthing is seriously wrong with me these days. Everytime I see a baby picture instead of saying UGH, I'm saying AWWWWWW! in a girly squeaky voice. And everytime I see cute baby things when I'm shopping I feel compelled to stop and look. And whats worse, last night I went to the nursery at work just to look at the babies and say AWWWWWWW. It gave me a weird squishy feeling inside. Maybe this is a symptom of getting old and being almost 30. Ok, I think I'm going to take advantage of mike while he's still sleeping ;) last edited: 9/19/08 8:08:41 AM” 8:06:11 AM 9/19/08 “lol! It's that damn clock. Somehow I think Mike won't mind.” 11:11:26 AM 9/19/08 “Morning all. We're headed to the home despot momentarily; we're putting up some 6"x6"x16' posts today. Ugh. My only concern is locating the power line for the house; the spray painted marker put down cover a path 3' across. You'd think they could be more precise.” 7:02:47 AM 9/20/08 “I put up some post today too.....for my raspberry trellis. They were starting to get floppy all over the place. Now it looks neat and tidy again. BTW, I had no idea there were so many diffrent freakin kinds of pliers for wire at the hardwear store. I had to break down and ask someone for help.” 10:27:25 AM 9/20/08 “ "a path 3' across. At least they are in MI. If you're hand digging, you'll (I mean HPM) will be OK. Family picture tomorrow. BIG event. Frustration is ensuing with my mother calling the shots and my SIL getting her way once again. Hhmmpphh... I suggest you don't ever have a family picture. E's walking. A lot. Everywhere. I just bought her some Stride Rite's today. I wish they were cute. I paid enough for them, you'd think they could make them cuter. Have a good Sunday, everyone.” 6:52:11 PM 9/20/08 “It's all good, we missed all the cables. So far, it looks awesome. We got the verdigris-ed copper tubing in place on the other section of fence. The verdigris has really just started so its not solid green yet, but an occasional spritzing with a solution of 2 parts vinegar, 1.5 parts ammonia, and .5 part salt, in solution.” 6:55:17 PM 9/20/08 “Morning! I'm amazed at how well I sleep w/o Birch around. Woke up an hour prior to the alarm this morning. And it's still dark out because it's so overcast. Today I get to go over my folks, learn where the H2O shutoff is, which plants to water when, etc. They leave for FLA on Tuesday. Then grocery shopping and making curried butternut squash soup and steaks for dinner. I roast the squash last night and the house still smells awesome. Have five squashes right now (three still on the vine), so roasted an extra and stuck it in the freezer. Enjoy your Sunday!” 4:46:17 AM 9/21/08 “I'm checking this thread daily hoping to see a post from RichB...anyone know anything about how he came through the operation?” 8:45:04 AM 9/21/08 “quote: "He should be posting soon. Maybe I can get in a nap when I get back. I was up most of then ight, thanks to congestion. I hate it when I can't breathe. Much as I like sleeping with the windows open, the congestion it's causing is killing me.” 3:43:51 AM 9/22/08 “Good morning, I got home last night and things went well. I developed an air leak in my lung Friday so they kept me an extra day, but that sealed and seems okay. The cancer was removed by doing a wedge resection on my right upper lung so he didn't have to remove the entire upper lobe. The thoracic surgeon said he removed the tumor and got wide margins around it so I'll see what happens from here. I have to go back in two weeks to get the stitches out and get a chest x ray. I'm just glad to have this cancer off me and the pain so far isn't too bad. He able to remove it by using a scope called video assisted surgery so I only have a few small incisions in my chest. The best thing to do to rehab the lungs are to use them so I'll start that today and go for a short hike later. I'm glad to be home.” 5:12:47 AM 9/22/08 “Good to hear from you Rich.. I thought about you yesterday as I was reading this.. http://www.inrich.com/cva/ric/sports/outdoors.apx.-content-articles-RTD-2008-09-21-0149.html You are inspiration to the rest of us.. Ohhhh.” 6:09:14 AM 9/22/08 “RichB, glad to hear from you! Enjoy your hike.” 6:43:32 AM 9/22/08 “RichB - Glad to hear it went well. Enjoy regaining your strength.” 7:04:17 AM 9/22/08 “mornin'...
