Hoowee, I just looked at the rain amounts for Melbourne FL....You okay down there, Paul? 15-25 inches of rain is a bit much, even for a state that's just a giant sand filter.

Treebait, I know that feeling. Long ago, I started getting up first and going to bed last just to have some time to myself. Now I spontaneously wake up at 0500.

And drink coffee, read the paper online, listen to the radio, post on TT and a cycling forum,

wow!
Fay, Fay, go away!
Fay, Fay, stay away!

More rain than I ever saw during the peak of the rainy season in the Republic of Panama. Flooding everywhere, streets, yards, houses, golf course fairways, etc.

Fortunately, it seems to be moving away to become a memory in this location. My trailer did not flood, but some leaks drenched the carpet in my attached, Florida Room. My two daughters, who are here in Florida, want to remove the carpet and paint the concrete slab underneath. I usually wait for sunny days, open the door and turn on one or more fans. This was the worse that I have seen here.

Hugs.

Hi everyone,

I officially started my teaching job today, though I've been in the last two weeks trying to get things organized. Today started our professional development stuff. Open house is tomorrow night. I'm going to like it there. :)

Evie is SO close to walking - she can string three steps together once in a while. Tonight she got up to standing from the floor without holding on to anything. She's so darned cute!

HOpe you all are well, especially RichB and Mata....

Don' wanna get up...Hell, I already took Laurel and the neighbor kid to school this morning. Her first class starts at 7:30. Bleah.

It's overcast and drizzly here, with more severe rains and storms throughout the day. We really need the rain. I did have to open a drain valve on the pond for a while yesterday afternoon; It gained over 3 inches and was starting to overflow.

Good morning, SG, I hope all goes well with the teaching job. The teachers here went on strike for more money and better benefits so it looks like the school won't be starting next Tuesday.
I went fishing last Saturday, but the stream was too low for the good fishing I had the week before. We need lots of rain to get it back up to a decent level. Only 6 days left until I'll be finished with these infusions. I just hope it worked. I might go for a bike ride this evening since it looks like a nice day out.

Morning, again. Been up more or less since 2 am, thanks to storms and a scared little girl, then a cat who had a coughing fit. Thought I'd get up then and surf the net, but no, the gfi circuit breaker blew at some point in the night for this room, plus the guest room and the master toilet. I didn't feel like tottering over to the breaker box at 2 am to fix it.

One of the heaviest-used roads for this area, Independence Blvd., is closed down because of flooding across the roadway. I wonder how McDowell creek is, since I have to cross over it a few times to get Laurel to school.

Not much exciting here, but I am a-okay with that. Three appointments this morning, renew city license, one more this evening and maybe get out in the garden in between.

Have a good day everyone.

There's lots more flooding around here than is listed on the news. We passed large flooded areas on the way back from Laurel's school earlier. I'm impressed, I've never seen large scale flooding in person before.

Good morning, I'm pulling up most of my patio garden today. Blossom rot infected the tomato plants and powdery mildew is on the cucumbers. The only thing that did well were parsley and basil plants. I had some snow pea plants out in the back, but a woodchuck bit the tops off and stomped on them and they never really recovered.
It looks nice out today and I'll go for a bike ride later.

HUH?! not sure what you talk of Cookie. Is it an attack to say you're the same person you were as Sarge? I think it's simply the truth.

RICHB, I was reading up on blossom end rot and found out it's a deficiency of calcium in the soil. We had it for the past five years (so frustrating). We started adding rabbit pooh to the garden and haven't lost any fruit this year.

Cookie, you cannot make me lie in any bed I don't want to. You're wasting your energy.

Nowslimmer, I'm excited for you. Wish I could get out there for a good two weeks and clear my head. Take in a nice sunrise for me okay?

Today I'm taking a neighbor kid and Ab to the science center.
We finally got rain last night, thankfully. It's been so dry that we've had all sorts of wildlife coming to my pond to drink at night. The dogs have been going nuts and two nights ago I shined the big flashlight on a rat almost as big (EWWWWW!). Rat traps were purchased and three lay dead this morning. Between the pond and the woodpile we have ideal living conditions, aside from the dogs. I don't care much for them though, even though essentially they're squirrels w/out fuzzy tails and extra disease. I say death to all rats! That may be the theme for the weekend.

Have a great Thursday everyone.

Good morning, Sass, thanks for that information. I didn't know that's what caused the blossom rot on the plants. I pulled them up yesterday. We need rain here too and some might fall today, but it doesn't look like much. Looks like no fishing this weekend with no big rain in sight. I went for a nice bike ride last evening so I'll ride my bike this weekend instead.

Wed was the first sunshine we've had since last Friday. Fay camped out over Alabma dropping 5"-10" of rain. It's nothing like what Florida experienced, but we were starting to drift back towards a D3 drought status. The local lake was up a foot. It's about 17000 acres if memory serves.

I never knew either Richb. I always thought it was a fungus. I didn't explain it right above; it's the fruit that lacks calcium, not the soil. Here's the link that helped me:

Sass, I read that info about the blossom rot on the tomatoes. That was interesting and now I'm wondering if I watered the plants too much. I guess it could have been a problem with the soil too.
