So, I decided to call my doctor and tell her I wanted a PEG, or feeding, tube...I will have to bring a backpack with me so the doc will know which areas to avoid... Consultation this Friday with the surgeon. I am a bit concerned because I do have an infection somewhere...I had a temperature of 102.4 last night...it's weird because less and less gunk is coming up from my lungs as the antibiotic does it's job...but, I still am getting those high evening fevers...and, I worry about anesthesia and pneumonia...not a good combination...we shall see... This has been a rough week for me...Two co-workers, one of which I worked with 5 years on a 10 hour night shift that had less than 6 people, died from aspiration pneumonia with complications. She was 5 years younger than me and her death was very sudden. 2 weeks ago she was still at work. She died peacefully yesterday. Then another co-worker I worked with for 10 years finally died after fighting colon cancer. But, it wasn't cancer that killed her...it was pneumonia...she died drowning in her own fluids kicking and screaming...they were holding her down when she died...that is just a soul-destroying image for me...she was 8 years younger than I am. She died last Saturday. The operation to insert a feeding tube is a "high risk" procedure...my pneumonia, acid reflux and malnutrition all add to the risk...my oxygen blood level is around 89 so it's obvious I've got a problem there...he's not sure whether he's gonna go in through the nose or the stomach...the nose is the safer but we're not sure my esophagus is wide enough...sigh...I don't have a lot of options...I will probably die of malnutrition without the tube so it has to be done as I have a backpacking trip planned for June...operation scheduled May 19th although that could change...
