I cannot remember the last time anyone complimented my bark.” 1:01:14 PM 4/05/08 “I've heard its worse than your bite. Ah, well, another day has gone by. How is it already April? Mr. Christmas, as he's known in our town and through mid-Michigan, passed away this past week. He built the World's Largest Christmas Store, and was truly a generous, kind, ordinary kind of guy. Last summer at the farmer's market (we often saw him there) he joked that I was stealing a watermelon under my shirt (I was 8 months pregnant). I'm guessing town will be just about shut down on Monday during his funeral. He had a big hand in making this town what it is today. Catch up with you all tomorrow. Have a good Sunday.” 5:33:48 PM 4/05/08 “I've heard its worse than your bite. Ah, well, another day has gone by. How is it already April? The lilac found a new home at the corner of the barn, just west of the rabbit hutch (to hopefully block the afternoon sun so they stay cooler). The hole filled full of water once I got about 7 inches deep. I hate shoveling mud. Good news is my back doesn't hurt this morning. It was quite difficult to get the poor thing out of the ground. Today is church and we've got a bike refresher planed for afterwards. Cross your fingers. Yesterday we got a skinned knee and two skinned palms. The kid acts like a flying monkey or something if she starts feeling like she's going to fall, and leaps off the bike while it's rolling. Have to work on braking.” 5:10:33 AM 4/06/08 Morning Sassy..... “Glorious day here.....garden is looking great....coffee's good....church will be rockin' this morning (If I can help it) but, someone snatched my tamborine and I haven't located it yet....lol.....a joke or some rigid-minded dork attempting to subvert my enthusiasm?????....the saga continues..... :)” 5:42:30 AM 4/06/08 “Morning Chappy. Good luck finding the tambourine.” 5:47:33 AM 4/06/08 “Tambourine, eh? I'll go to your church if I can bring my own incense, lol. The two feet of snow in my garden seems to have mostly melted yesterday. It was in the 60's for most of that time. Now I gotta get ready for the chickens, the garden and continue working on the house. And canoe shuttling starts in May. Crap.” 5:48:21 AM 4/06/08 “You have a coop for night time Nimble? Seems like you'd have plenty of creatures in your woods who'll enjoy a chicken or two. But don't most old farms come w/ chicken coops?” 5:57:15 AM 4/06/08 “60s? Tambourine? Wha-? (need coffee..... bad) and Here Come The Golf Nuts! (saints preserve us)” 6:05:22 AM 4/06/08 “I have a coop filled with old gas cans, bicycles, tires, toilets, insulation, batteries, pipes, tubing and just about everything you can think of that, when added up, doesn't amount to a darn thing. Fortunately, people are paying for iron these days and I'm going to call someone to take a look at some of this mess that was so generously given to me in the purchase.” 6:06:50 AM 4/06/08 “lol....Nimbly, I burn incense in the office...when I need to 'zone out'.....” 6:37:01 AM 4/06/08 “Copper is as good as gold these days. Hope you find a whole mess of scrap metal and get a nice fat check out of it.” 6:39:37 AM 4/06/08 “If it's as good as gold, I'll trade all my copper for all your gold:)” 6:43:14 AM 4/06/08 HAHA...... “My tambourine has returned!!!!!!!!!!Let the music begin...... LIVELY WORSHIP (incense maybe?), Nimble, I'll expect you to come visit sometime......” 7:18:43 AM 4/06/08 “Funny bark response, Nimblefoot...maybe I'll let you shuttle me this summer...oh boy, someone's gonna take THAT out of context... Hey Mr. Tambourine Man...play a song for me... No night sweats last night and my temperature is almost back to normal... ”7:36:22 AM 4/06/08 “Good for you, Mata. If you need a shuttle, I'm just the guy that can do it:) Sounds like a good idea, Chappy. Okay, enough. Time to get back to the mudwork, go for my long walk and get started on the chicken plans:) Have a great day!” 7:42:13 AM 4/06/08 “Good morning, Matahari, I'm glad to hear you are feeling better. It's gloomy out, although I don't think it's supposed to rain. I think they said it would be around 50 today. The weekend was pretty good for dayhiking and I got out both days.” 5:01:43 AM 4/07/08 “mornin' spent the weekend rearranging furniture and sorting through stuff...seems I spend my life turning storage rooms into bedrooms and vice versa...when I'm done this time, it's all staying put!” 5:54:08 AM 4/07/08 “Evening. Can I leave Florida yet? I'm ready to leave now. Alas, I still ahve 2 coats of paint in the kitchen and 2 coats on one wall in mom's dining room to do. I pulled a big tick off of my neck, along with a chunk of skin early this morning. I haven't seen a single tick in NC yet, and this 3 ticks since getting here in Fl. yesterday afternoon. Yuckers.” 5:54:18 PM 4/07/08 “Good MorninG!!!!...is it Friday yet????.....we had a house full of company all weekend...( I loved it!!) we had the grandbaby's fav ...biscuits & gravy!!!.....& a big cookout while the young couple prepared for prom....ribs,chicken,steaks, brats & hot dogs, potato salad, baked beans, & I made an Italian pasta salad, a seafood pasta salad, & corn & tomato salad...yummmm...& we finished with my birthday cake & coffee ice cream...yummmmmm.....the promers looked wonderful!!!..... ..as I was preparing breakfast, I noticed low water pressure...& then NO water at all....lol...no one got showers...oh well....a water main busted up the road.... ...Ya'll have a GREAT day!!!!” 3:00:07 AM 4/08/08 “Sounds like fun Divinity.” 4:36:38 AM 4/08/08 “huh...its gotten kinda dull here. Whats up with that?” 6:02:59 AM 4/08/08 “I've been up working in the yard for a couple hours.....now I'm eating cereal.......have a nice day....” 6:26:26 AM 4/08/08 “mornin'! Ana wanted to have "girl time" last night, so we were up giggling too late for me... looks like a nice day out today!” 6:43:08 AM 4/08/08 “...Good Morning hugs...... ...well...Lee got the patio lattic on the banisters finished...it looks GREAT!!!....he is a master now.,....lol..anyone here ever work with lattice???....we found a trick....use a grinder to narrow the lattice so it fits in those grooved boards....I'll take pics & post on my Myspace...now to get the flower beds done....he dug up one yesterday , now we need soil & plants!!! Clear weather!!!......but we sat out there last eve.....a wonderful breeze.... I hope everyone has a GREAT day!!!!!!” 3:07:44 AM 4/09/08 “Good morning, yesterday was 61 degrees and today looks to be about the same. I went bike riding last night, but I won't be able to go this evening. I'll get out for another ride on Thursday.” 4:38:01 AM 4/09/08 “RichB...it's 32F and not expected to warm up much...another grey day...glad you have better weather and are able to enjoy some biking time. div...I get tired just READING what you do... Getting ready to head down to Mayo...just trying to eat something...rewarmed pizza was a bust...couldn't swallow the stringy cheese...now I'm trying a cheese omelet...should work better... All they're doing down there is checking out my swallowing to verify I have a serious eating disability...I'm sure they'd love to have me have an MRI but that ain't gonna happen...whatever I have done down there comes out of my pocket as my insurance company does not have Mayo in their network...as it is, just walking in to see one of them costs me $250...the nose hose is another $250 and the barium swallowing test is around $1000...I'm expecting to be $2000 poorer by tonight...” 4:54:42 AM 4/09/08 “wow - that is expensive Mata! good luck getting the disability...” 5:36:16 AM 4/09/08 “Mata - May God be with you and you heal quickly.” 5:46:41 AM 4/09/08 “Morning hugs!!!! I can hear the birds singing outside so maybe they know it'll be nice too. They sound happy. I'm going mountain biking this evening for sure. Matahari, I hope everything went well for your exams. Divinity, if we had 7 inches of rain here in one day there would be flooding. We are already 6.5 inches above normal for year. last edited: 4/10/08 3:13:18 AM” 3:12:09 AM 4/10/08 “Morning! It's getting sloppy and cool here again. I knew this spring weather stuff was too good to last! Snow by the weekend. I think it's too late for any accumulation though (knock on wood). Mata, that whole business sounds downright unpleasant. I hope it went well and you got the results you needed.” 4:52:24 AM 4/10/08 “Interesting night in western Arkansas. 4+ inches of rain, major thunderstorms, BASEBALL size hail. It is still storming but alot calmer. Once it quits raining it will be time for a home inspection. I have never filed an insurance claim in 10 years at this house. I think it is time. Upside. I am planning a hike this weekend. The waterfalls should be running nicely.” 4:59:32 AM 4/10/08 “we've had 60's all week but i've had a stupid cold and have lost my voice...oh well, at least i can still "chat" here...big 30th birthday cook out for my wife this weekend...hope the weather's good” 5:04:44 AM 4/10/08 “good morning - I just want to point out that with this post the Get Up thread has matched the Night Crawlers thread for the number of posts” 5:06:13 AM 4/10/08 “mornin'!” 5:15:11 AM 4/10/08 “Wooo Hooooo!!!!...thanks HOI!!!...about time!!! ...Mata...hope all is going well.... ...sounds wonderful HillbillyHkr...my fav is waterfalls... OMG...it's FRIDAY!!!!!!!!!!” 2:38:21 AM 4/11/08 “Good Morning! Coffee this morning. It's raining still and it was hard to get moving. Have to take the little B to the doctor's this am. She has something wrong w/ her eye. Something has been on her iris for two days and won't come off. Poor kid is all teary and red. I'm hoping it's something simple like pink eye. Eight days until my honey comes home! You all have a good Friday.” 4:21:39 AM 4/11/08 no coffee :( “HUGGGSSSS good morning, i am off to beat the rain and try to get the greenhouse up. I am soooooo excited (can you tell?) later gators! sass hope all works out at the docs.” 4:27:22 AM 4/11/08 “Good morning, It's gloomy out and is supposed to rain later, mostly tonight and maybe an inch. I went for a nice mountain bike ride last night. It felt good to get out in the woods on the bike again. Trout fishing season opens tomorrow. With the rain coming tonight into tomorrow it may not be very good to fish. Mid April isn't the best anyway. It'll open up over the next few weeks. Divinity, we don't have sand up here and PA. is one of the worst states for flooding. Sass, I hope the little one's eye gets better. Last month, I was on some new eyedrops for what my doctor thought was pink eye and it cleared it up in 5 days. The bottle was tiny and it was only a 5 days supply, but it worked. Everyone have a nice weekend!” 5:05:28 AM 4/11/08 “good morning...for the first time this year it was actually light out when i left for work” 5:21:22 AM 4/11/08 “mornin'! rain this weekend...” 5:31:22 AM 4/11/08 “had a helluva storm yesterday morning with wind that blew 18 wheelers off the road north of here. my garden survived as I hung a tarp over the expensive stuff....today it's beautiful, sunny and 51 outside...great day a'comin..... 22nd thru 25th a 30 mile hike with Rocketman on the Wild Azalea Trail in Louisiana, south of Alexandria......at Woodworth.” 5:54:23 AM 4/11/08 “There's close to a foot of new snow on the ground and it's still falling. All the little birds that showed up for spring are chirping something that sounds remotely like "WTF"? I dumped some seed on the porch, so now they have a fighting chance. Maple, don't you routinely go through this no coffee thing? You've really got to get it together. This is serious. Well, I refuse to plow snow in April, so it looks like inside work today. Peace.” 6:24:30 AM 4/11/08 “Holy Moly, what drama at the Doctor's office. LOL, you'd have thought the poor man was trying to remove her eyeball. It's all okay now, just a fleck of something stubborn that really did not want to come off her iris. Looked like stryofoam or something. He numbed her up w/ eyedrops (oh the pain....), and then swept it off with a q-tip (the TORture!). I got to pin her down. Stuff like this is just exhausting. I feel bad the Doc had to start his day off w/ a screaming 7 year old.” 7:26:59 AM 4/11/08 “I feel for ya Sass...” 7:46:36 AM 4/11/08 “Nimblefoot...your email had me laughing out loud...you have a great way of expressing yourself when you write...love your sense of humor... Just got a call from my local doc...seems the sputum sample I gave her came back and I have 4 different pneumonia bacteria in my lung so she's giving me some new and different antibiotics...at least they will be in a liquid... 33F still...it's been that for 10 hours...We were supposed to get wacked with 10 inches of snow but it came down as mostly sleet last night...who knows what today will bring...I'll take the truck to the drug store...it has 4 wheel drive... I haven't done laundry for a month...haven't had the strength to go to the laundrymat...hope next week I can go...one of us HAS to!” 7:57:45 AM 4/11/08 “When my Henry was three he took a wild sled ride solo on some crusty snow and took a wicked tumble. There he stood with one snow boot gone and his mitts gone and hat askew. The result was a four-stitch cut across his left eyebrow. We trundled off to the hospital some thirteen miles which routinely took 45 minutes or more...........rural Vermont. Poor little Henry fought like a landed fish when he saw that needle going for his eye. My wife and I pinned him down, one of us took the arms and head and the other the legs. We had to hold him real still as one could imagine since the doctor had to make four stitches. Meanwhile six year old Danny wondered off in this small town hospital and found a fire alarm to pull. Hey, he was learning to read and the little red box said, PULL. As things had gotten crazy in the "OR" Danny fussed about how the doctor was "hurting my brother" and the increasingly frazzled doctor yelled, "get that kid outta here!". Away he went and things got a little crazier. The hospital staff was running around looking for the fire while the three of us were trying to finish the stitch job on Henry who was turning purple as he struggled and screamed. We had pizza afterward, which was always a big hit with the boys in those days owing to the popularity Ninja Turtles.........Hiiiii-Yaa!” 8:06:33 AM 4/11/08 “Sort of reminds me one a night back in '71...I had ER duty at the Coast Guard Academy Hospital and the continuation of a bar room brawl broke out. I was suturing scalp lacerations on a drunk Marine (one of the bar combatants) and he kept trying to get off the table. There was no help for me because all staff was fighting a rear guard action to keep the hospital from being taken over. At first I tried to restrain the gyrene by banging his head with my elbows, since I couldn't use my gloved hands. It sort of worked, but really not that well. What ended up keeping him under control was looping one suture through each ear and through the rubber cover on the table pad. He remained pretty still after that. I was worried for a week that I may have concussed him with my elbows.” 8:16:01 AM 4/11/08 Jump to Page << prev
