my corn snake is mean as hell.

can't even reach in to clean the cage with out it striking you.

But, it was abused before we got it. It's a full grown creamsicle cornsnake. We were buying pet supplies and this woman came up to us, asked us if we liked snakes cause she was giving one away-they were moving. So we picked it up. The poor thing was in a VERY dirty cage. We didn't even botehr cleaning it, we jsut gave him a new cage tossed the old. It was nasty. And the womna hadn't been feeding it much.

Poor snake, SC. The only mean corn snake I've ever encountered had been injured.

Grey and dreary here; I need a little more caffeine to compensate, I think.

Sass, Laurel had her 100th day of school last week. She had a blast. They had parades, games and everything. She has a Valentines Day party later this week. Crap, that means I have to buy/ make valentines for her class! Ack!

that's great of you to take in that snake Spirit...
I need to contact the nearby animal shelter - I'm considering taking in small critters like hamsters and gerbils - no guinea pigs, etc.

Just for the heck of it, I picked one of the small crickets and threw it in with Aliana just before I was going to feed her. She snagged it with her usual tail wag, which made me very happy! Four more and she was basking under the heat lamp, snoring away...LOL...not really snoring, but they do this belly flop thing that just makes them look so relaxed...

There was a show last night about patent medicines and when they mentioned snake-oil salesmen I immediately thought of this thread.

But it prompts the question...... Do you oil your snake?   And if so, how often?

it is cute, but I've only noticed it with this one. I'm starting to wonder if she was impacted at all, maybe just off her feed - however, I'm continuing with what we are doing. She's staying with one of her aunties this weekend while I'm away, so she can feed and moniter her for me. :)

The lizard that died came from the same clutch as the lizard I returned - and they were extremely tiny...they just never grew...

the kids hundredth day is today...Austin counted out 100 goldfish to take in as they are making a snack mix to celebrate.
We did valentine's last night, I need to get some lollipops to put in them...and waters for the 1st grade party...

Hi all

Can't get here in the morning, much less at night! 2nd day of school down, and so far so good. The schedule is crazy, getting E to daycare before 6:30AM....I'm glad this is a temporary gig. I'll have a chance to find out if I really like this shuffle or not.

Plenty more snow here - they changed the forecast for tonight - 4-6 inches on the way. My mom is flying up from FL on Friday - she's not looking forward to the cold and snow!

Happy 100th day to all the kiddies. I want a party, too!

I didn't post yesterday, did I? Well, I decided to stay home as I had been up twice an hour visiting the loo with some kind of stomach malfunction the night before. I thought it was me as I raised the temp control of the heated mattress pad since I was cold. Finally, I got up and looked at the bedroom temp...57F! We had run out of propane and the house had NO HEAT! It was a snafu on my part...we didn't get any heat until 2pm...it was 52F at it's coldest as we ran 2 milkhouse heaters and kept the bathtub full of hot water...when I screw up, I do it in a big way...it's nice to be warm again...

have a good day!

Good morning, we only got 2 inches of snow and it's all melting now that it started raining. It's like a heat wave outside at 36 compared to how cold it has been.
It's going to be fun raising the garage door later to get my car out. My shoulder feels worse than I expected from that surgery yesterday.

Morning all, I'm finally getting around to posting. Laurel's got a pretty wicked cough, but not much drainage and she feels fine, with no fever. She's eating very well (for her) lately, too. HPM on the other hand...he's pretty sick, thanks to lots of sick people coming in to work. I think I dodged the bullet (for once) on this one.

Thanks to a lack of volunteers in Laurel's class, I got drafted to help supervise this Friday's class Valentine's Day party. Oh, the joy. There is one boy with a pretty bad walnut allergy, so no nuts of any kind in any treat for anyone.

Good morning from Melbourne, Florida.

Happy Valentine's Day. Did Valentine see his shadow today?

Wish you northern folks would keep your cold weather up north. 44 degrees here in Melbourne, Florida, this morning. And only a high of 66 is predicted. But it will be back to 76 tomorrow. No matter how hard you try, you can't keep our temperature down! But these dips are annoying.

Thanks for the extra hugs this morning, Mataharihiker. They helped warm me.

Enjoy your Valentine's Day.

Sometimes I love the random wikihows that pp up on the computer. This is the first thing I saw this morning;

http://www.wikihow.com/Make-a-Voodoo-Doll

We had a good bit of rain yesterday, and it didn't have time to evaporate off the car before it froze. But rather than freezing into round lumps, it froze into little spines, rather like a starfish or spiny lizards. How appropriate. The ice on HPM's car made very nice looking feather patterns, with spines along the edges. 24 degrees this morning, by the way.

We're doing our best to ignore Valentine's day this year.

We ignore it every year, except for the kiddo. She got a pink bear this morning. Birch and I give each other nothing material. Sometimes we get all sappy, but chances of that are pretty slim this year as I sound like Marge Simpson.

Happy V day!

We had an ice storm yesterday, work and school were cancelled. Rain, snow, sleet, freezing rain, we got it all. We lost power around 3:45 for about 2 hours, then it was on for 15-20 minutes, then it went out again, and is still out.

Me and the kids had fun playing games, cooked supper on the coleman stove, and tried to keep the lizards warm.

We were all set for school this am, and then I got a call saying it was cancelled. I guess some of the schools in Augusta didn't have power so all were cancelled. Good thing, since I forgot Ana could dress down for her birthday today, and I only had a uniform for her.

We got a couple of inches of snow last night, nice. fluffy, white stuff. The weather is starting to shift into a gradually warmer mode, ten above and better, only dipping to the -20f range when you get your hopes up (it's people sensitive that way).

Heading to Webster for another basketball game tonight. If they win, they'll be the conference champs. Tuesday night I went to the game and stopped into the casino to "experiment" with $40 (my limit). I walked all the way to the back and stared at a bank of empty dollar machines. One in particular was blinking at me. Really, a light on it was actually blinking, but not on any of the others. Like a moth to the flame, I slowly approached, only to discover that it was the "cash out" light. Someone had inadvertently left $80 in the machine. I looked around, waited...no one approached the machine. I sat down and pretty soon I rang it up to $160 and cashed out. On the way out the door I slugged another buck machine and won $40, exiting with a $200 profit.

Following the game (which Webster won), I stopped at the "Hole" one more time to get some dinner (Ha!). I slugged another dollar machine and picked up an extra $75, had dinner and came home. Yesterday I drove to the big city (pop. 8500) and bought a heavy duty sawzall with my winnings. No tempting fate, I'm not stopping there tonight.

Hope Mata and Sass feel better soon. Happy Valentines Day everyone.

-22 this fine coffee tasting very good morning. Looks to be a bright sunny day and that should help take the edge off the cold.

Webster HS won their basketball game last night and are now officially conference champs. They will host the regionals next Thursday as the #1 seed. It's pretty cool meeting former players who did their thing during my service years. It's even cool than I'm older than all of 'em, cuz I can lie about how good I was and know one can dispute it:)

I'm really grieved that Mata's team, the St. Croix Falls Saints, will be sitting home wondering about next year;)

Went to starbucks this morning, and their coffee is horrible at this particular location. Totally bitter and harsh.

Been to Home Despot already, oh the joy. I have to get a little prettied up for this afternoon; I got volunteered to help with Laurel's class party today. The good part of that is we get to leave at 2:30, a little early, since I'll be stuck parking out where the school buses belong. Laurel's school was built back when most of the kids still walked to school, so there's very little parking.

We hope to get the pond as close to functional as possible this weekend, but we shall see. HPM's got da funk this time around.
