Bill's daughter's boy friend spent an hour hacking away at the ice dam around the west side of the house which took enough weight off the roof so we can open the door again...at one point, about 2 feet from the edge of the roof, he struck about 5 gallons of water...a lake...this was what was leaking into the house...the shape of the roof is terrible for this climate but nothing we can do about that...we had icicles that were +4 feet long and +6 inches thick running 20 feet...that's a lot of weight...
