Good morning everyone.

Mata, very cool the company suggested that!

I get my car back today, hooray. I've been missing it. The Nissan (rental car of shame), drives horribly on the ice and snow. And, I miss my heated seats and mirrors. Cross your fingers and hope it all is smooth and the window goes down all the way again.

Have a good day everyone and watch yourselves out there. More ice storm for us this morning.

Good Morning all.....its 62 here and they say foggy, but I don't see it......anyway, the Ouachita Mountain Melee next week is postponed for two weeks....ET has to teach DARE classes for an officer who got promoted (good news) so I'm expecting a bigger blessing when we go on the week of the 31st.......I'll be Happy New Year on the trail!!!! Too bad I won't be able to post you all so I'll say it before I go.....

Good morning everyone. It's 18 above here too, a welcome (but temporary) respite. This is reminiscent of the old time "real" winters where you have to scrape the ice off the 2 holer before plopping your butt down.

Mata, I started laughing out loud while reading your post. Not that there was anything particularly funny in it, but for the first time I realized the startling disparity your written vocaculary suffers when compared to your spoken...if you know what I mean, lol.

I'm sure everyone is getting bored with reading my posts about burning wood. So am I. The good thing is the forced activity it thrusts upon me. With propane or other fuels you just program the thermostat. Even though the wood has been cut, split and stacked for some time, I still have to bring a new supply into the mudroom on a daily basis, carry more to the living room (where the stove is) for accesibility and drying, tend the (damn) fire and take out ashes every couple of days. Certainly not a major amount of effort, but a series of tasks that have to be regularly attended. It's a good thing that makes me get off my butt:)

Oh, contrare......I really enjoy reading your antics up north....brings back great memories of those 'real' winters in Pennsylvania...you know "absence makes the fart grow stronger"...like the thought on the two holer. My aunt had one at her farm and I remember what it was like in winter and having to use it...brrrr. Keep 'em coming.

It gets old doesn't it Mr. Foot? Especially when you get to go out in the rain for wood. Or try and carry it across a skating rink, lol. It is nice to sit down at the end of the day in a toasty 75-85° room though.
My particularly least favorite part is the constant battle against slivers. Elm is the enemy!! Cherry is my friend. =)

Good idea about donating the Scandi shakes, Mata. I guess you could call them "cirques" instead of "croissants" now.

Nimble, are you saving the ashes for your garden? Great potash fertilizer there. Good for root development among other things. I suppose by the end of winter you could make your own soap, too.

I hate it when I hit send before I'm done typing. I have to finish shaping the pond this morning, with a crick in my neck/ shoulder again. Lots of vitamin I today, plus a hot soak a little later, followed by an ice pack. Sounds good to me.

Wood ash is only good for soil that is acidic. If it's alkaline or neutral it's no good. We can't use ours, it all goes in the trash. =(

I have 4 cord of wood buried under a foot of snow, since I never found/made time to get it in or even cover it up...seems winter just took me by surprise this year...

I miss the toasty warmth, but it'll still be there for next year.

It has been a cold fall so far. The furnace has some malfunction with a sensor so even with the thermastat set for 82, it barely gets above 65. After working in a hospital with geriatrics wanting it 85 degrees, 65 feels way too cold now. You would think that they would have invented a cheap, safe way to create heat without burning fossil fuels or future fossil fuels by now.

Good morning...

Nimblefoot, you wouldn't have been remembering the salty English that peppers my speech, would you...I'd never thought about it but you are right...I certainly don't write the same way I speak...that's probably a good thing...I would do well to curb my tongue...

If we get an ice storm that cuts our electricity, I'm heading up to your place, NF and steal cookies again...

It's colder than yesterday but at least it's above zero...if only by one degree...

I wish it were the week-end already...I woke up tired...

Yes, Mata, that's exactly what I was talking about, lol. No problem here, I'm one who believes it "adds" to the language rather than detract...as long as done with skill and propriety (like a sailor)...as you do. Believe it or not, I had never heard the word M-F until I was in bootcamp. All of a sudden, according to my Company Commander, I was one. Fond memories.

Come for a visit whenever you wish, cookies are easy to make. Perhaps we could even harvest a deer...if no one is looking.

I hear ya Sass, but no vomit here. Laurel had a mild fever yesterday afternoon, and took a long nap. Nothing major for her, fortunately.

I'm putting a second coat of oil on the tigerwood deck today. I probably shouldn't given the problems with my neck and shoulder right now. At least I'm not in agony like I was yesterday, just uncomfortable now. Actually, sitting at the computer hurts me the most. I guess that's a sign. :)

Chappy - They just put a new roof over the Golden Cue, so I don't have to worry about the rain.

They, also, had to elevate the A/C's to platforms above the roofs(new city code). This should help the hurricanes blow them off, so they can come crashing the roof. (Hey, how come Table 9 has an A/C and this table doesn't?)

18F right now...I had the weirdest drive to work yesterday...it was quite cold, around zero and I ran into the densest fog I have ever seen in winter...never fun when dark and really eerie in winter...later in the morning I got a peek outside and saw the frosty hoars were visiting bigtime...everything had a coating of white and, in the pale sun, was absolutely gorgeous...hoarfrost visits are one of winters perks, IMHO...

So, we had it to Thursday...odds are good we'll survive the week, huh?

Good Morning. B is still home from school. It's a confirmed case of strep with some sort of weird cough tossed in for added fun (poor kid). Today is her last day of antibiotic. She was still running a fever yesterday. Hoping that third does of antibiotic works miracles.

Good morning, we had 4 inches of heavy wet snow yesterday and more is forecast for Sunday. Looks like it might be good for cross country skiing and maybe snowshoeing after that storm.

I got my feeding tube removed yesterday and can eat normally now. I never expected my neck to heal, but I'm thrilled that I can eat again and so far it's working well. Now, I just hope it lasts. It sucks not being able to eat or drink so I'm enjoying this.
I'll have to get outside today and clear the snow off the driveway before the next storm dumps more snow out there.
