Good Morning, a bit late. Cloudy and cool here - 53. Rain yesterday and more predicted today. One more of these 2 day rains and we'll have wild flowers in the spring. Planning to go up the mountain out back later on when the bread I just made is rising in the pans.

good morning....66 outside, looks like rain and Debs has been croaking and coughing for 2 days now...she's sick so she made some chicken and noodle soup, good stuff.
All is quiet so I'll make some coffee and finish my story for church this morning.

Good morning...I saw the national weather report this morning and was immediately concerned for all who live along that storm track...it is amazing how much this websites opens your perspectives...

I think of all those who post here from the Northwest when I heard predicted wind speeds of 100mph a few days ago. Today I think of the states in the Midwest that look likely to get hammered by ice...losing power in winter without a wood burning stove has just GOT to be the worst...it's cold here, minus 7, but that cold usually prevents a lot of precipitation...not always a bad thing once you have a decent snowpack...

We could use a few more inches and I'm sure we'll get them...in the meantime, I think of Lorax driving from Indianapolis and my sister who will be trying to fly out of Cincinnati tomorrow to be with my Mom who will be getting her second bout of chemo on Wednesday...then, I think of Bearmagnet and Dani...

Meanwhile, I'm sitting in a warm house listening to the man I love softly snoring not far away, enjoying a Bailey-laced cappuccino and a wonderful cheese-stuffed omelet...got the tree and lights up last night...today will be the day for some serious decorating...I am blessed!

Hope the weather is kind to you...take care out there!

20F and slight fog right now headed to mid to high 20's, chance of snow this evening. Bring it on! Tried out the trails at 49 North yesterday. Groomed but no track set, better than expected.

Mataharihiker, I am always hungry after reading your "get up" posts. :D

Lol, Tilt! That's how I felt when I wandered off to the grocery earlier this morning. I was feeling pretty good by the time I got back, and managed to pinch that little something between my shoulder and spine again so I'll be thinking
(for the next several days) about popping half a valium because of the pain and tension. I hate getting old.

It's too dang hot here! I'm staying inside for the most part today, but if I putter around outside I may darn well change into a t shirt and shorts. It's about 70 for a high, but out in the direct sun it feels much warmer.

First, you put thimbles on your fingers and run them up and down the washboard in time with the music for added percussion.

Then you also get about a 5-foot piece of clothesline and a broomhandle.  Punch a hole in the washtub (apologies to Emmett Otter's Mom), tie a knot in one end of the clothesline and run it through the hole.   Invert the washtub.   Whittle a notch in the end of the broomhandle and tie the free end of the clothesline to the other end.  Set the notch on the edge of the upturned washtub and apply tension to vary the pitch of the vibrating clotheline as Twang is applied.

Throw in an empty jug and you've got a trio.

It's a chilly 55 and foggy here in central Alabama.

I'm kicking myself about not taking my pack with me on my road trip Sat. I had to bail on the RRG trip but was still obligated for a site visit 1 hr north of Knoxville. I got up there by 10 local time and was done at 10:30. 9 hrs of driving for 30 minutes on site. If I'd thought about it, I could have taken the pack, been at a Smokies trailhead by noon, hiked in several miles, made camp, left early and been home by the time my wife and kids got back from visiting her folks. Gotten get my head out of my butt and think.

Morning all......it's 39 here after being 79 yesterday at noon......WTF......7 days till the Ouachita Mountain Melee......so, no stove on this one, just cold food stuffs: cheese, pepperoni, jerky, chocolate, trail mix, maybe an MRE or three? Hopefully there will be plenty of water around. Poor Debs is still sick some, so I take her to the docs today...

dayhiker...that could never happen to me...you'd have to see my car to understand...

It's supposed to warm into the 20's today but right now it's still below zero...at least it's not MUCH below zero...only minus one...

Christmas tree up and decorated...now, I'm wondering what to make for breakfast...I'm thinking it's been awhile since I've had a breakfast English muffin...one egg omelet, cheese, onion on a toasted English muffin...pretty yummy...then, maybe a caramel cappuccino to make it even nice...yep, that sounds like a winner...b-y-e!

Have a safe and warm day!

Morning everyone. I'm waiting for the dew to dry on the tigerwood deck, then I get to seal the whole thing with an oil blend that contains quite a bit of rosewood oil. Its a weird combination of turpentine and something woodsy floral, fragrance-wise. I'd better not huff it though. Strong stuff.

It's supposed to be 74 and sunny here. That's way too warm. I hope it rains a lot soon, but not until the deck is sealed!

After hitting the road 2 straight mornings at 4am a brewery was the last place I needed. I had a very hard time making it home awake. I really wanted to stop at Smokey Bones in Chattanooga for a lunch of ribs and beer but new better.

mata - the Camry purred the whole trip. When I fill up today I'll see the mileage but I bet it was upwards of 33 or 34.

The only downside is on Thur night I got a books on tape from the library. At this point I thought I was making the trip and got a 14 hr book. Tape one didn't agree with my tape deck so it was Sirius the whole trip. That got old.

The only reason I follow local HS football right now is to see whose been kicked off the teams this week and which school's coaching and athletics staff got fired. Apparently quite a few local schools lie about where their football players so they can meet eligibility requirements.

Yeah Cg, the Jags are finally doing well AFTER I move!

Yea...I read that too. I have my beef with Charlotte Catholic being able to play to play the public schools in the play offs yet they don't play any public schools during the year and they don't have to follow the same guidelines we do ie: they are allowed to recruit!

In Alabama the larger private schools have to play up 2 divisions. If you're a 3A in size and want to compete in the public school leagues then you have to compete at the 5A level.

18F out...nice...that's 32 degrees warmer than this time last Saturday morning...

Wally world just started changing the shape of their croissants which are now round instead of crescent shaped...they are quite perfect for my one egg omelet breakfast croissants...since croissant means crescent I suspect they are misnamed but this is America and I am flexible...and fed....

I pretty much live on a powdered drink called Scandi Shake...when mixed with 8ox cold milk they give you 600 calories...I order them online as they are quite expensive...a case of $24 is $41.82 plus shipping...came to $138.44...I had ordered 3 cases of my usual flavor, vanilla. When I opened them yesterday I found 3 cases of chocolate...not my favorite...when I called Axcam they told me they would send me 3 cases of vanilla and suggested I donate the chocolate...what a great idea! Bill has a friend who is retired and lives on a limited income who's wife is fighting cancer and also drinks Scandi shakes but who can't afford them...hope she likes chocolate!
