The coffee's brewing and I'm going on the back porch to watch the sun rise....with the doggies....” 4:32:11 AM 12/02/07 “Good morning all... BusyBee is sitting here watching toons and trying to wake up. I'm drinking some good columbian coffee and surfing. It's suppose to rain here in north AL today and it's rather gray outside. Blah...” 5:23:15 AM 12/02/07 “well, forget the sunrise, its a steel blue sky with winds and the temp dropped 2 degrees in the last hour....rain coming......” 5:26:29 AM 12/02/07 “Good morning. Thank God I got the back blade on the tractor yesterday. It was snowing when I worked on it and the stuff just kept falling. This snow will stay since the ground has been hard frozen for some time. I guess my puny white butt will be on that cold metal tractor seat for most of the morning, but first breakfast. A couple of days ago I also covered the drain field with sheets of styrofoam and then covered that with old tires. Hopefully this will keep me from having to poop in my camping potty chair come January. The snow looks spectacular as it bends the tree branches low to the ground; there isn't a track as far as my eye can see, man, animal, car nor truck. Just the way I like it. If my daughter ever returns my camera, I'll take some pictures of another snow storm. Edit: Oops, a red squirrel just ruined my perfect landscape:) last edited: 12/02/07 5:45:11 AM” 5:42:39 AM 12/02/07 “Have fun playing in the snow, Nimblefoot...did you get all your motored toys switched around in that huge pole barn of yours? what happens to your drainfield that you have to use a camping toilet when it freezes? pipes freeze? Yesterday evening, Bill made venison jerky with the jerky gun I bought him from Cabela's and my dehydrater so the house smells , well, interesting...he had a blast and now he'll no longer complain about the space taken by the dehydrator when I use it! eh eh eh Got enough snow here to have road travel grind to a halt...I was planning to drive into Minneapolis to see Boomer and Katiebear, 2 backpackers from the otherside in town for a wedding, but I don't think that would be wise today...the first snow of the season always causes folks to drive like crazy people and my little Saturn is no match for those tank SUV's.. Saw an interesting bag of cheese from Sargento yesterday called Bistro blends...the one I bought has shredded Sharp Wisconsin and Vermont cheddar with real bacon...it's what in in the morning's omelet...very tasty along with a superb cappuccino from my new machine... I think today will be a day for making a pot of soup...I bought a new cookbook on Amazon called Backpack Gourmet Good hot grub you can make at home, dehydrate, and pack for quick, easy, and healthy eating on the trail, by Linda Yaffe because it looked to have a lot of good soups in it...I'm going to try one today called Legume-Salami soup...the cook book focuses on dehydrating foods for the trail and bringing them back to life in camp with one pot...I lean more toward zip-lock cooking but, since I almost live on pureed soups, new ideas are always fun...and, the dehydrator is already out! It's nice to look outside and see everything covered in snow...yesterday's winds, gusting over 25mph, played havoc with my bird feeders...only got about 4-5 inches of snow but it certainly is welcome...my plants will be grateful for the ground cover... So, did it snow where you live?” 6:46:01 AM 12/02/07 “more snow last night, more on the way. Nothing but decaf in the house. :(” 6:54:23 AM 12/02/07 “Good morning, so far there's 3 inches on the ground this morning, but it's supposed to change over to sleet and rain by late afternoon. I want to get in a hike before that happens. Right now it's nice out there with all the snow hanging in the trees. The roads will likely be a mess when freezing rain gets here.” 7:00:16 AM 12/02/07 “57°F and partly cloudy here in 30904. This is when we reap the reward for enduring 100+° temps July-September. I hear that Grinch guy is skulking about ---- be on the lookout.” 8:44:31 AM 12/02/07 “Mmmm, an omelet sounds really good, but alas, no eggs. Bummer. It's a high of 53 here today, and we haven't reached it yet. I'm supposed to be decorating the incredible tree I got Friday, but it looks so good even without anything on it. No motivation at all. Guess I need to refuel my caffeine levels.” 9:12:28 AM 12/02/07 “Good afternoon! Just got back from breakfast out (omelet and rye toast), and church. We got snow and rain yesterday and are left with about an inch/ inch and a half of slush. More rain later. I'm taking my mom and Abby to see The Nutcracker in a few. I think I'm every bit as excited as she is. =) Maybe will start some decorating afterwards. Enjoy your day everyone.” 10:00:05 AM 12/02/07 “Ain't much snow here; in fact, ain't any snow here. Guess our winter is over except for the snowbirds.” 4:28:33 PM 12/02/07 “Lets drink to winter. last edited: 12/02/07 11:09:38 PM” 11:08:24 PM 12/02/07 “Good Morning! It is once again Monday...how can we slow that down and keep it from coming around so quickly? I'm finally over this stinking cold..or atleast about 97.8% anyway. I am starting my day off by going to the health department and getting my first shots for the Honduras trip. I HATE NEEDLES!!! I'm trying to put my big girl pants on for this and breath deeply! High winds are expected here today...20-30mph sustained and 60mph gust! Hold onto your hats...Have a great day!” 4:13:22 AM 12/03/07 “Good morning, high winds are expected here too and we had rain all night that will freeze up with the cold coming this afternoon. It'll be all frozen slush soon. CG, try not to look when they put the needle in and think of something else. The mind over matter thing.” 4:19:49 AM 12/03/07 “Thanks Rich...that is what I'm going to have to do..except I don't have much mind and this is a big matter! LOL” 4:27:15 AM 12/03/07 “mornin' ya'll” 4:29:03 AM 12/03/07 “Good mornin' Glad you're feeling better, CG. Thanks for sharing the experiences of your sons' football team with us. It brought back a lot of high school memories for me except for the facts that there were no playoffs back then and, oh yes, we sucked;) I got most of the snow plowed yesterday, but the fuel line got plugged and will be cleaned this morning. A couple of hours work and I'm done...for this time. Probably a good idea to bring in a bunch more firewood too. It's funny how big a woodpile looks when you're finished with the cutting, splitting and stacking. I recall a feeling of complacency when I considered the long winter night and being snug and warm in my wood heated house. However, a couple weeks of burning takes a bigger chunk than anticipated out of that pile and you start to wonder...is it really enough? Northern Wisconsin winter in this old house makes me glad I have lots of warm hiking gear, a goose down flight jacket, capilene long johns (which make Sass stink), smart wool socks and a marmot helium sleeping bag. Survival is guaranteed no matter the fuel situation. Quality of life is another matter:)” 4:32:57 AM 12/03/07 “I stink without them. =D Just my feet though. It's all slush here. Ours has frozen already. I imagine it'll become more solid as the day goes on and the temps drop some more. It was up to 42° yesterday night. Weird weather. Snow flurries for the rest of the week. Today I start the Christmas baking and decoration extravaganza. I also have to finish the stocking I've been working on for my new niece. Just the toe and heel to finish then to put the backing on and the hanging loop. Stay warm everyone.” 4:43:46 AM 12/03/07 “Good morning everyone......it's 33 outside, ouchy.......it was 78 yesterday at 1:00, go figure... However, it is a crisp, clear morning and the sun is rising higher and shining nicely. I guess this was our first frost last night. Coffee, shower, office, visits.....have a great day all......NImblefootzzz....gotta love them Smartwool sox.........” 5:35:48 AM 12/03/07 “It was in the low 70's this weekend. I didn't get much done and was pretty lazy. It was fun.” 5:43:08 AM 12/03/07 “It's snowing, yay!!! We are supposed to get 12-18"...” 6:21:12 AM 12/03/07 “Thanks Nimble! It was a hard time loosing but lots of lessons were learned by all...including MOM...who DAD threatened to make sit somewhere else if I didn't stop screaming like a banji! LOL RICH...I survived the shots!!! I might not be able to move my arms by the end of the day but it is so amazing that the things I've feared and fretted over so far haven't happened. I have to get a booster for the heb a & b 1/3 and go for the others on 12/20...!” 6:35:20 AM 12/03/07 “Ohhhh, how was The Nutcracker, Sass? I hope I get to see that this year! Well not to toot my own horn, but I made the awesomest peanut butter cookies that have ever existed yesterday. Unfortunately, they won't exist for long! LOL.” 6:42:12 AM 12/03/07 “That's great! Shots aren't so bad but the injection site can get sore later on. For as many IV's as I get, I still hate them. My veins seem to hide when a nurse walks in the room with a needle. My record for getting stuck in one day trying to find a vein is 6 times. Although I think that time a lot had to do with inexperience on the nurses part.” 6:45:38 AM 12/03/07 “Lyra, don't send me any peanut butter cookies, I hate 'em. Chocolate chip are good, brownies are even better. It's all in the spirit of Christmas and I'm just helping you give better (those spiritual rewards, ya know) :)” 7:20:47 AM 12/03/07 “Hate peanut butter cookies?? I always knew you were a freak of nature. Okay I'll take that into consideration! Brownies would probably travel better anyway, and disguise poison better. :-D” 7:34:19 AM 12/03/07 “Sorry to hear about the game CG. They don't call it "the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat" for nothin'! And.... Not to raise anyone's ire in this august and remarkably fuego-free discussion, But..... Famous Amos chocolate chip with a tiny dollop of crunchy Jif on top kick all forms of you-know-what! I also tend to avoid occasions where the words nut and cracker are in proximity to each other.” 8:02:16 AM 12/03/07 “Lyra, it's not "poison" you're supposed to put in the brownies...unless that's code for you know what.” 8:05:57 AM 12/03/07 “Good morning...glad you survived your shots, crazygurl... My veins see a needle and dive...Mayo Clinic has real professionals and only allow 3 sticks before nurses must be changed...I've gone through 3 nurses...I've learned to do major rehydration before blood draws...that seems to help a lot...I hate needles...always have...and, it's a good thing as there was a period in my disreputable past where my hatred of them is probably responsible for me still being alive today...how's THAT for a convoluted sentence? LOL... Made a great soup yesterday...legumes and salami...I'm dehydrating some of it and vacuum packing more for future backpacking trips...” 8:08:59 AM 12/03/07 “oh that sounds like yummy soup - I made corn chowder yesterday.” 8:43:10 AM 12/03/07 “Mornin' Good health to all.” 9:29:19 AM 12/03/07 “The Nut Cracker was awesome. I'm leaving Birch for the Russian guy in tights. Don't tell him though. ;) What glorious gluts! Who doesn't like peanut butter cookies?!” 10:54:19 AM 12/03/07 “Only people who are out of their mind! LOL...I totally thought you said "What glorious nuts!" I guess the whole peaNUT thing got entertwined with that sentence in my brain. Or, I was actually reading your mind, Sass...one or the other.” 11:09:14 AM 12/03/07 “Good morning all you little fruitcakes... 19 here...some yinyang nicely plowed out the sidewalks leaving a mound of snow across the bottom of our road 2 feet tall and 4 feet wide...no one knows who did it but I'm hoping the city crew will take pity on us and plow it out...unless you have a 4 wheel vehicle, you're not coming up our road...no post office, no emergency vehicles...and, maybe no Mata going to work...I might be able to find a tiny path where I can sneak the Saturn out after a bit of shoveling...shoveling is hard on people who have trouble breathing...” 3:09:37 AM 12/04/07 “Mata, I'm jealous of your snow, but not your shoveling. Be careful out there! Lyra, you crack me up Chickie! Good morning everyone. Xmas shopping today w/ a friend and her 4 year old. Wish me luck.” 4:36:36 AM 12/04/07 “Good morning, It's cold and windy out there and we had a dusting of snow overnight. I'm glad I cleared off the driveway yesterday or it would be an icy mess out there.” 4:41:30 AM 12/04/07 “I feel for ya, Mata. The commute would be hell or I'd come plow you out with the tractor. No heavy labor today, just restocking the wood pile inside the house and a little cleaning. I'm starting to clean early for my mom's Christmas visit. Maybe I'll get a little time for a snowshoe hike in the woods or a little Xcountry skiing:) Definitely not both.” 4:44:34 AM 12/04/07 Hugs. “Good morning.” 4:54:20 AM 12/04/07 “Good morning all: Well today is day 3 of stormy weather, yesterday over a hundred cars were involved in accidents in the London area and today looks no different ....AHHH the joys of a Canadian winter. But on the good side soon it`ll be cross country ski time and awsome winter hikes...I love seeing wildlife tracks in the snow. Yep lifes good...I`ve even had my morning coffee.” 5:08:00 AM 12/04/07 Morning all....... “It's 30 outside, and the sunrise was really colorful.....coffee's good, gotta work today then I'll go for a walk in the park.... Peace....out.” 5:20:39 AM 12/04/07 “Still dark here, very dark. A balmy 46F, but I think the rain stopped. 3 inches of snow doesn't last long under a couple of inches of rain.” 5:37:47 AM 12/04/07 “Morning Path, I need to send you my promo logo for out outdoor ministry startup....how's yours going??” 5:39:35 AM 12/04/07 “Brrr upper twenties here. I posted this on another thread but thought I'd put it here too. This happened yesterday. I'm still laughing about it: At our local Kiwanis club we do a program called Santa Calling. The schools get info sheets from the kids and a couple evenings a bunch of the men will call the kids as Santa. There are usually not enough men and women will have to help out and be Mrs. Claus. At the Kiwanis meeting today our Pres. welcomed all men and any "deep throated women that are out there" to come and help. I had to look at my shoes and count to 20 when he said this.” 5:45:06 AM 12/04/07 “mornin'! It's still snowin'...:):):) We got let out of work early yesterday, and me and the kids shovelled and decorated the tree. It's fun to put up the ornaments that we've made over the years. I LOVE the Nutcracker ballet, and we usually go every year. However, the dance studio the kids go to puts on a tap Nutcracker, and this year it's the same weekend as the ballet we usually see. Then we decided that since we're already seeing a Nutcracker, we'd see A Christmas Carol with friends. Nice idea, but we left early...” 5:48:22 AM 12/04/07 “chappy, I've been on lots of Sunday hikes, but almost all of them alone. Hiking season is over now. There is a couple interested in XC skiing and the trails are just now ready to ski. 50 inches in the mountains from this last storm.” 5:49:33 AM 12/04/07 “Oh, Dang! Did anyone else say something to that guy, DH? Cool and cloudy here, with what feels like yet another flu-like relapse. I'm never getting a flu shot again.” 5:50:16 AM 12/04/07 “No, just a few chuckles after the meeting. I did email a bit with our speaker afterwards. THere is a banker in the group that is the outward appearance of a banker, but is hilarious if you get him chatting without lots of folks around. I'm calling him this morning and saying that I'm having lots of deep voiced women willing to help but that's not the type of lady Bill asked to volunteer. Have you had any luck? I'm glad I kept my mouth shut, but a good comeback during the meeting would have been to speak out, "Deep voiced women are welcome too," and then just not say anything else. I was in such shock that I didn't have a smart remark to come back with. I'm glad I didn't.” 5:53:51 AM 12/04/07 “Well, I have no snow to report....However it is 30, so that is below freezing! LOL The wind has died down and the skies are blue with a few clouds painted across them. I'm slowly working myself into the Christmas spirit....! Hugs to all, CG” 6:02:11 AM 12/04/07 “Hey CG, the temps for Mt. LeConte today is high of 25, low of 14. How's that? :D” 6:03:14 AM 12/04/07 “Still no snow in Georgia..... < grrr >” 6:15:49 AM 12/04/07 Jump to Page << prev
