Be safe.” 5:32:44 AM 11/22/07 “Good morning, Happy Thanksgiving everyone. Warm outside this morning and it was 63 degrees here yesterday. The weekend is looking cold once the front comes through later today. It'll be nice for backpacking, sunny and cold.” 5:44:24 AM 11/22/07 “It rained a little over night but it has cleared and is sunny. I believe the high will be 55 and getting colder for the weekend. I have the eggs on to boil...for deviled eggs...and the sweet tater casserole is next. The youngest son is at football practice...tomorrow is the big game..I suppose there is no rest for the weary!!!!” 6:17:56 AM 11/22/07 Hi “” 6:30:46 AM 11/22/07 “I hope they win the big game.” 6:49:48 AM 11/22/07 “Morning! Candied sweet potatoes and rolls in the works here. Going to Mom's house in three hours. You all enjoy your day. I hope you all get to spend it doing something you love or with someone you love. =)” 7:15:30 AM 11/22/07 “G and my brother made the stuffing exchange, so we don't have to actually get to their house until 3 or 4. Who has Tday dinner at 5PM????? Only my sister in law, ug. Woke up to snow on the ground. Grass is covered, pavement is just wet. Its melting now anyway. Nice start to the holiday season, though! BTW, its the best stuffing I've made in years. Bummer it'll give Evie big gas pains from the sausage. :(( Happy Thanksgiving!” 8:48:26 AM 11/22/07 “Get up, ya turkeys! Ug. I slept like a log being swept downstream through rapids. Ate too much, I did.” 2:57:35 AM 11/23/07 “I'm up! I'm up!!! I shouldn't of slept so late...now I have a headache...I need coffee!!!” 5:56:18 AM 11/23/07 “Good morning, 30 degrees out and windy. I'm heading out to go backpacking soon with some TTer's. Everyone have a great weekend.” 5:56:49 AM 11/23/07 “Good morning Turkey Day survivors! Tropical 19 this morning...rumors about a big, yellow thing in the sky, I think they called it "the sun", making an appearance today....I'll believe it when I see it... Well, I made dinner yesterday but was too tired to set up a beautiful table...Bill forgave me...he had about 50 helpings...I wish I could eat like that... I don't sound very happy this morning...time for some vitamins...I'm looking forward to a lazy week-end...I need the rest... Anyway wake up at 4am to hit the stores?” 6:10:08 AM 11/23/07 “Big time last night.... waking up at 10 am to hit the stores, LOL” 7:18:43 AM 11/23/07 “Tilt...you are out shopping?????” 12:27:20 PM 11/23/07 “Made it back alive!” 12:33:30 PM 11/23/07 “I love a deal, but I hate the crowds! I vowed a few years ago to never go shopping on Black Friday again. Not much going on in our house. G and the baby are sleeping, I'm playing computer games. Gotta get moving soon to be ready for the tree lighting ceremony downtown! Enjoy what's left of the day!” 1:38:51 PM 11/23/07 “Sleeping? In the afternoon? Man, I wish you had married me.” 3:25:09 PM 11/23/07 “Aarg! Get up, ya skervy dogs! I've already downed a pot of coffee this morning, and you lazies are still aslumber. Tsk. I've been here at my nephews since Thursday, the evening of which we feasted. Then, yesterday morning, I mentioned "low country boil". Man, talk about the power of suggestion... and consecutive feasts. I drank too much last night, and pigged-out even mucher. I bet I have put on several ounces these past couple days. Still abloat, I am...” 6:00:32 AM 11/24/07 “ugh, our car will not start. AAA is on the way! I hope it is not because of the cold, that would make a long winter but then again if it is the starter, that will cost money. :( I love my car” 6:15:55 AM 11/24/07 “bet I have put on several ounces LOL I like that thought gojo...doesn't sound so bad when you look at it that way! Maple...hope the car starts without having to get a new started. It is a buuurrrrish 25, clear and sunny. I'm due at my mom's condo at 10 to continue our painting project...it seems to be going on forever. Hopefully today I will only have to paint one wall. Now that Black Friday is past I want to go see if there are any bargains left. My main task is to find a wago for my nieces.” 6:24:59 AM 11/24/07 “Mapes. An update on your baby? You know, the starter is the umbilical cord between you and the car. It isn't THAT expensive! :-) Just look at it as more gear to get you to the trailhead. I guess I'm up. Have a GREAT post turkey day weekend.” 6:33:44 AM 11/24/07 “The promised sun never materialized yesterday but it's really warm...28F when I woke up. Supposed to be in the 40's again this week-end...have a good day, group...” 6:40:28 AM 11/24/07 “"The Promised Sun"...sounds like a good title for a book. "The Promised Son" doesn't qute have the ring. Then again, it was never going to be me")” 6:54:41 AM 11/24/07 8:52:03 AM 11/24/07 “Afternoon! We got the tree up, and a few other things. Will have to work on the rest tomorrow. I have to put a cheese fondue together, we're off to G's family T-day today. Still chilly here, still some snow on the ground. I expect it'll melt before the day is out. Enjoy the rest of the weekend!” 10:34:28 AM 11/24/07 “Am taking a Secret Survey.... What cheese for the fondue?” 10:39:32 AM 11/24/07 “GOod Morning all......it's rainin like a cow peein on a flat rock here.....has been for two days now....and it's 39 degrees, just a bit colder and we have some snow... Coffee maker just burped, the sign that it's done cookin...now for some good stuff...then a bit of news catchup, I been outta town for the last five days in Austin.........” 4:54:39 AM 11/25/07 “Tilt, this was the recipe we used. It was very good! http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Cheese-Please-Fondue/Detail.aspx I'm up, been up for hours. My child has decided sleeping through the night is for sissies, and she ain't no sissy baby. She's curled up with G in bed now, and maybe I'll just leave them here and go to church myself. Going to be 40 and sunny here today. Maybe some sunshine will brighten my mood.” 5:16:19 AM 11/25/07 “I don't want to meet the cow that can pee on a flat rock for two days. Then again, that's what makes it Texas;) Don't know for sure what I'll be doing today. There's two loads of firewood (about one cord) to get in the pole barn. I should load the mud room with wood and rake up the bark so it can be used for fire starter. Getting all that done by dark at 4:30 will be quite enough. In the way of good news, it's less than a month til the shortest day of the year:) In the way of gooder news, I don't have to make my daughters final tuition payment in one lump sum. That helps. Two more hospital payments and I can exhale (more good news).” 5:17:46 AM 11/25/07 “Nimble - your promised son ref has me humming CCR's, Fortunate Son.” 5:19:59 AM 11/25/07 “Glad you are beginning to see light at the end of the tunnel, Nimblefoot...does that stream just before the road run free all winter or does it freeze? Hey! There's something big. yellow and bright coming in through the windows...oh wow, it's the friggin' sun...where have YOU been these last few weeks, Big Boy? Woke up starving...made myself a lovely buttermilk pancake with real syrup and tossed a smidgen of Bailey's in the morning coffee... I am proud of myself...I started AND finished knitting the last sleeve on my Mom's Christmas cardigan yesterday...for those who don't knit...sleeves take forever... Hope you are all feeling good today!” 6:05:48 AM 11/25/07 “Wow, that's a different twist on the fondue. We've just done the standard garlic, wine and cheese over the years. { Rub pot with garlic cloves Heat a cup of dry white wine (on Low) until tiny bubbles begin to form Gradually stir in one pound of grated cheese that's been tossed with a TBL of cornstarch finish with fresh black pepper (shot of cognac or Kirsch, optional) } We experimented with 100% Jarlsberg a few times, but 2/3 Jarls with 1/3 Emmental or Gruyere incorporates the wine much better. I was asking about the cheese selection because I mentioned Jarlsberg to our resident Swiss representative and she almost declared war, LOL” 10:08:25 AM 11/25/07 “Mata - in places, and during extreme cold, it may freeze on top and run beneath the ice cap. Stuntz Brook thanks you for caring:)” 10:36:30 AM 11/25/07 “We're having a Fondue Rondezvous for New Year's Eve this year. Looking for an interesting fondue recipe. The one above is good, but its pretty blue-collar. I could go for something fancier.” 11:51:01 AM 11/25/07 “Nothin' fancy about Tilt; he's just low brow blue collar red neck all the way:)” 12:28:57 PM 11/25/07 “Hey, just trying to blend in, LOL There are some ideas for the standard recipes at Wikipedia, of all places: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fondue Some google searches for those names should turn up a Ton of things. Along with the cheese, we usually heat some peanut oil in a second pot and do individual pieces of steak and chicken. You can also do seafood very quickly that way.... shrimp, scallops. Then there's the Toblerone chocolate melted in a double boiler with cream. We tried dipping cake, marshmallows etc. a couple of times, but apples, pears, strawberries and fresh pineapple are Great.” 12:51:54 PM 11/25/07 “S'rimps, huh? You betchya Nimble, dude's even got a gun rack in his truck.” 1:04:31 PM 11/25/07 “Ya know.... I think the guy in "Forrest Gump" forgot about the S'rimp Fundue! I've got a hiking stick rack in the Ford: it's called 'the back seat' ---” 1:11:05 PM 11/25/07 “wanna dress up a fondue? take Kirsch of the "optional" list...;)” 3:36:25 PM 11/25/07 Hugs. “Once I saw the light at the end of the tunnel. It turned out to be a fast moving fright train bearing down on me! (from the book, Hot Flashes.) Spent the weekend in Ocala NF. Stayed at Hopkins Prairie CG. Had a great time and enjoyed the outing. Bright stars and a full moon went with some nice weather. I even managed to hike several miles. A pretty girl bought me a Lotto Ticket just because I let her go ahead of me in a check-out lane. I blew it! I should have proposed. I could live with someone that nice. Enjoy your week. last edited: 11/25/07 3:56:19 PM” 3:47:28 PM 11/25/07 “Good morning, I had a great time backpacking over the weekend. We had good weather and hiked 30 miles from Friday until Sunday afternoon. This morning in the frst day of deer season and it's foggy and raining outside. Not very good conditions for the hunters.” 4:35:54 AM 11/26/07 “I am so dang glad to be home. 5 nights with the relatives is too much. Looks like some real rain is coming today. Yahoo!” 5:39:53 AM 11/26/07 “Morning...another grey day, dammit... Where did you hike, RichB...and what and how did you eat? I woke up with a pain where my esophagus enters my stomach...not fun...” 5:48:59 AM 11/26/07 “Good morning! First accumulation of snow last night. Just enough to turn stuff white. It was pretty. The weekend in Chicago was great. We are also glad to be home. Abby has today off school and is busy mopping about how much she wants to go to school. =)” 5:49:06 AM 11/26/07 “Abby mops the floor for you? You're lucky! ;D” 5:50:10 AM 11/26/07 “You got snow last night, Sass? We didn't get squat! Not even any rain! Not much going on today. Same old stuff. It was nice to have G home for several days. I kinda miss him today.” 6:00:18 AM 11/26/07 “I know the feeling, SG. Sometimes, babytalk doesn't cut it. ;) I have things I really need to do and there's a semi parked across the driveway. THe driver is nowhere to be found. Grr. Time for some hot tea. Mate`, actually. I hit Teavana while I was down in Jacksonville FL., and got some goodies. They have a tea brewer thats awesome. It looks like an oversized tea mug, but the bottom is a lever controlled filter. You add about 3 teaspoons of your tea of choice, hot water, and wait. Then you just set the thing on top of a mug and the tea drains out the bottom into the mug. It's much neater then a teapot.” 6:13:21 AM 11/26/07 “Matahari, we hiked the Pinchot trail in PA. along with some bushwhacking through new property the state bought a few years ago. I ate and drank entirely through my feeding tube. I brought smoothies, supplements and dried soup. The tube wasn't too bad to deal with, but the cold weather made it harder. Water was freezing up and thickened my mixtures enough that I was concerned about blocking the tube. I kept things inside my shirt to keep thawed out. The liquids made my pack heavier and I started out with 51 pounds. Next time, I'd like to carry a lighter load at least by a few pounds. last edited: 11/26/07 6:16:36 AM” 6:15:38 AM 11/26/07 “RichB...thanks for the info...I wondered how the feeding tube would work in the cold...you might try what I do...I pack all my pre-cooked food in food saver bags which I seal without the vacuum although I do my best to remove the air. On the trail, I put the bags in boiling water to reheat...if it thickens up, I just hold the bag in the hot water (made a cozy for the hot to retain heat) to warm it up. It certainly can be a weight issue when backpacking...so far, I've mostly been in areas where water has not been available so carrying hydrated food was no different than carrying enough water to re-hydrate it...it's hard to carry lightweight when you have the eating issues you do...” 7:11:35 AM 11/26/07 “Smiley, you do realize that we don't live in the same area anymore, right? ;)” 9:11:57 AM 11/26/07 “close enough, sass! its just over an hour!!” 9:57:34 AM 11/26/07 Jump to Page << prev
