Dayhiker, its called Babywise. Apparently, some folks follow it way too rigidly and babies end up hungry and dehydrated. Ironically, the point of it is to be on a "flexible schedule". 85% of the babies on it sleep through the night by 8 weeks. We're a bit behind the times because I abandoned the flexible schedule during our thrush outbreak. It was more or less a free-for-all at that point. Hopefully 7 or 8 hour stretches will become more regular for us!

Watching the Michigan/Michigan State game today. Making food for the party. This is the first weekend G hasn't had to mow greens at the golf course, so he took over baby duties at 7AM. Whoo-hoo! I slept for almost three more hours. :))))

Chappy, my mom was a church music director/organist for almost 30 years. She worked Saturdays and Sundays in addition to preparing the rest of the week. When everyone else has the weekends off, you church-y folks are just getting started!

Worst part was Christmas morning - we had to wait for mom to come home from church before we could see what Santa brought us. Such torture for a kid! LOL!

G and I are headed to our friend's Baptist church this morning. G is judging the chili cook off there after the service. Never been to a Baptist service before. Looking forward to it!

Other than that, its just laundry today. Exciting, huh?

Oh, and always in a basket of clean laundry.

I'm so glad it's Monday so that I can get some rest. Friday afternoon a dumptruck load of mulch was delivered. I didn't measure, but I'd estimate the pile to be about 8'w x 15'l x 5'h. I got through maybe 2/3 of it. My left arm, the one that picks up on the pitch fork, feels like a rubber band.

Good morning, It was pretty crazy weekend for me, but I went for a nice hike yesterday and felt really good considering all the stuff going on.
The chemo drugs caused a breakdown of the tissues in my neck. My neck blew out Thursday evening while I was eating and has a quarter inch hole in it that food and water just runs out of if I try drinking or eating normally. It was deflating watching 90 hyperbaric oxygen dives and 8 esophagus dilations go up in smoke in a matter of seconds. I put my finger over the hole and was able to eat and drink that way before I got to doctors office Friday morning, but it's no solution. As result I have an NG feeding tube now. They tried to plug the leak with a rubber catheter, but it didn't work. There's a chance it may someday close on its own, but the outside skin will never heal. I don't know how long I'll have the feeding tube, but it may be a long time if it doesn't close on its own. On the bright side, I can eat faster now by just injecting food and it hasn't stopped me from hiking or doing anything.

Dang, Rich.

I'm koi-ed out from the weekend. At least I wasn't the one who fell into a koi display bin yesterday. That lady now has a badly dislocated index finger that's sticking way out form where it should be.

So I now have a total of 3 new fish. I like them, but they're so small and changeable at this size that it's a total crap shoot. That's what I wanted to name one, but with Laurel around.....no.

Lots to do today, I'd better get moving.

Rich, you're pretty amazing. I think my reaction would be, "holey $hit my neck just blew." Yours is that it sucks, it might heal, but I can eat better and still hike. Talk about making lemonade out of lemons.

Good morning thus far! Just got done with my three miles. It's cool and big rain drops feel here and there. Lots of birds active and I got some cool seeds off of a neat plant I've been eying. There is snow in the forecast for tonight (up to an inch, which probably means nothing), I get to work this afternoon and bake this morning. And, best of all I washed my dry clean only sweater, and dried it and it came out just fine!

Thanks, well my first reaction when I looked in the mirror was "holy $hit my neck just blew out!" It's not the first time it happened, but it never blew out with a hole this big. After the initial shock, the first thing I thought of was, I better get to the emergency room right away even though it's not in a spot of a major artery.
I've had a couple of other feeding tubes over the years so I know how to function with them. They haven't stopped me from doing anything so I'm not worried about that part. It was nice eating while it lasted and the times when everything worked like it's supposed to.

Roam, I know it does sound funny. LOL... Sometimes you have to improvise and it did work so I could eat and drink something until I got to the doctor. My ENT doctor tried plugging it with a rubber catheter to accomplish the same thing, but that didn't work because he couldn't find where the leak was in my throat. It's not lined up with the opening outside and is probably higher up somewhere.

Well, RichB, at least you don't have to think about what's for dinner or go grocery shopping...sorry, I hope you share my sick sense of humor...as you might remember, I lived with a feeding tube for a few months...

Good morning...35F...4 degrees warmer than it was when I woke up in my hammock Sunday morning...had about 15 minutes of heavy snow yesterday which melted when it hit the ground...our new insurance company at work does not include Mayo in it's network. Life is full of complications...that's why I like to be in the woods...have a good day...

Good morning, actually, I do go grocery shopping since I put real food down the feeding tube. I can totally eliminate supplements and only use them for convenience when I'm not home. Just about anything is fair game down the tube as long as it's blended first. Then I put it through a strainer so I know there are no chunks big enough to block the tube. With enough water to get the viscosity just right, I just inject it. It's pretty easy and fast. I can be finished eating in minutes. I'm coming up with more ideas each day for better nutrition and to make things easier and faster.
Those insurance issues will drive you nuts and I hope it all works out for you.
I'm off for my third chemo treatment soon.

Sass, I don't miss all that girl scout training - learning how to call a bag lunch a "nose bag" and stuff like that, LOL...

RichB, when I had a feeding tube very expensive liquid food in bags was delivered and I real food was never even suggested so it never entered my mind that you supplied your own...that certainly gives me something to mull over...

Good morning, thanks for the good wishes Divinty.
More insomnia for me from the steroids yesterday. I was up at 4 with only 3.5 hours of sleep. Funny thing is I'm not tired and have tons of energy on this drug.

Matahari, nobody suggested it to me, but I just did it on my own and it works great. I did this before with the last feeding tube. The supplements are expensive and not really good nutrition over the long haul. They keep you alive, but to me there's nothing that duplicates real food. Still they have place and work well as a supplement and not a total diet as far as I'm concerned. I'll still use them on limited basis when I'm not home. I'm going to start making my own supplement in powdered form if I can find some ingredients that look good. I told the ENT nurse that I inject real food and she told me to be careful not to block the tube. I know how to do it so that doesn't happen. Even if it did a little Coke injected will eat away at the blockage like Draino. I don't think I'll have problem if I didn't so far. Using a strainer there's just nothing big enough that gets in there to block it. Last night I sent a peanut butter and jelly sandwich down the tube if you can believe that one. There's trick to it that I had to figure out, but it worked. This morning, I sent some oatmeal with dried fruit down it. With a little ingenuity I can eat anything I ate before and even things couldn't eat before using this tube.
