Mornin'. I've been up for awhile, drinking coffee and lurking; too lazy to post. It was in the mid-50's in the house this morning, so the priority was getting a fire started. More "wood work" today, but perhaps a nice dinner and few beers this evening when Melanie, Les and Freckles show up. I'm thinking of making some "beer butt" chicken; don't think I've had any this year...chicken either.

Good morning all! Hey RichB you going camping at Masten this weekend? It looks like a mob is going! I will think of all of you while I am slaving away at work. Doesn't seem like good weather. Maybe sunny on Sunday.

Lyndy, I expect to be at Masten tomorrow morning and stay until Sunday. Last year there was a bigger mob. The weather seems to be about the same as last year. It'll be nice to get in a bag night. This year, I only have two bag nights so far.

Hey RichB, I read your email and saw MSilver's pics. I can't even find my photo album on Webshots anymore. I feel like I was on another planet. Need to get my stuff organized. What is it about getting older, the time goes by ten times as fast. I need 30 hour days (with 10 hours of sleep each day). Hah! There's an idea! We should plan a backpacking trip called the Afternoon Siesta TrailHike (the Loyalsock trail would be nice for this).

Good morning.

Time moves faster and faster as one gets older. In fact, I lost a day this week. I could swear that today is Thursday.

I'm going to do some Blue Ridge Autumn sightseeing today, unless the dark clouds outside drop water.

For whom it may concern like maybe crazygurl. I plan to be at the Farmer's Market around 8:30 tomorrow morning. I'll be the guy drinking coffee and looking for someone with whom to share it.

Okay I put some pics on an album at this website. It was really easy. Gotta run now. Have a great trip Nowslimmer, the fall colors have been really pretty, at least in my area. I'd love to be in NC and Virginia or even PA for the views.

Lol, NS, there's several guys like that at he farmers market here! You'd probably be the only one NOT wearing overalls!

I had a close call with my koi fish last night. My primary water pump had the impeller snap, so I used my backup pump with the output hose clamped to the side of the bin. The clamp broke, so when we got back from dinner last might I heard this loud hrum hrum hrum and it was the pump, running dry. There was maybe a quarter inch of water left in the bin for the fish. I refilled the bin as fast as I could, and so far as I can tell they're all still alive this morning. I had to go buy a new pump for them (the replacement impeller won't get here until Monday) and they seem happy now. How do I know? They came up to me looking for food. I must be doing something right with these fish stuck in their tiny little bin, since they've all grown a heck of a lot while in it.

Wow, that was close! Poor little fishies. I've had our fountain tip over and just about empty own entire pond. Nothing like a 10 square foot area of garden getting 110 gallons of water.

It's going to be gorgeous today! Nice clear skies. We're taking Ab to trick or treat at Ann Arbor's Exhibit Natural History Museum. She's going to love the dinosaurs. Best part is aside fro the gas to get there, it's FREE!

Enjoy your Sunday everyone.

Good morning. It got down to 27 last night, but I haven't started the wood burner because we're going to be on the roof this morning doing some patching.

I made some beer butt chicken yesterday. It turned out pretty good considering I had to use the propane grill and, therefore, put out more fires than if using charcoal. It may not be possible to screw up chicken when cooked this way; it's just soooo moist.

The pumpkins I put in my yard are in a new location every morning as the deer knock them about (deer soccer?) trying to put an access hole in them.

Hello hello!

Today's the first day since E was born that we've been to church. There was a lot of ooohing and aahhing. She slept through the whole thing though, thank goodness!

Lots on my to-do list, most important is a nap. Hopefully I'll get some other things done too.

Have a lovely afternoon, all!

Woke up to a partly cloudy day, about 56 degrees. We had some rain for the past 2 days, but it has stopped, of course we could still use some more, we are only about 20 inches below normal. I wish it would start cooling off a little more, I am ready for the fall. The high for today will be in the 70's.

Well, the kiddo is coughing so much she couldn't even eat her pancake this morning so we skipped the dinosaur trick or treating. Everyone's bummed out. But, this gives me a perfect day to make my applesauce and can it. Got all the leaves raked and the pond pump put away. Got two heated water dishes ordered up for the wabbits and let them romp around the yard for a few hours. Now the Abster is tucked back in bed (coughing ) and trying to take a nap. She beat her dad 2x at War so she's a little happier. =)

We've essentially had a zero weekend here. Lots of snuggling time and naps. I just got up from mine and HPM and Laurel are still down. THe yard is too muddy still to do much digging. I think HPM spent most of his awake time working on a website for out new koi club. Their current page is beyond terrible. Time for me to go do some dishes. Oh, joy.

Yeah, it's 8:30pm on Sunday, but I had to post.....
Debs and I had a great three day weekend at Talimena State Park in Winding Stair Mountains in Oklahoma. After I set up camp on Thursday, Debs said "Those guys are unloading packs from their vehicle"
I look up and three older retired guys are preparing to thru hike the Ouachita Trail. So of course I amber over to chat. I met one who gave me his card......John Calhoun, aka. Mothernaturesson.....he had thruhiked the AT in 01, PCT in 03, Col. Trail in 04, Yukon River in 07 and CDT (planned) in 08.
I took their picture with their cameras before they left the park at around 4:00pm. They were in their 60's except one who was in his 70's. All had done the AT, PCT, and one the CDT.
Debs said "they are rugged"......ditto....
Anyway, it was a great trip with night temps in the 30's, but worth it.......I tried my Hennessy Hammock out and it is great. One of the thru hikers (the oldest)said he just bought one but had not tried it yet........they were using the tarptents.
You can check John out on his journal site
www.trailjournal.com/mothernaturesson
Its worth a look.....
Oh, they said it would take them 14 days to do the 223 miles to Pinnacle Mountain, Ark.

16 miles per day for those guys, rock on.

I started the fun process of landscaping this weekend. When the house was built, the amount of landscaping that went down equaled what was left in the overall budget. I got grass, and bushes for the front and that's about it. The lots were heavily wooded and the tree line between me and the neighbor is full of vines. I pulled vines for a few hours and made maybe 20' of progress down the line. I could start a bonfire with what I got off the trees. I'm going to have a busy winter. I want the vines and pines gone and then to plant back to try and shield off the neighbors.

I have 3 spots that need shielding. I don't want to use leeland cypress like everyone else. I'm leaning towards magnolias. One variety gets 50' tall with a 25' coverage. That would work well for the back. Each side has a big blank spot that would work for the smaller variety that gets about 30' tall with 15' of width. Decisions, decisions.

Sounds productive XL. Clean floors are nice. I broke down and scrubbed the floor in the restroom adjoining my office at work. It's not my job, I didn't get paid to do it but it was so disgusting I cringed at the idea of anyone walking on it barefoot, and it just looked gross.

Dayhiker, did you try swinging on any of those vines ala Tarzan?

Well, Abby is really, really sick. The kid is still sleeping and now has a nice fever to go with her horrible cough. She's generally very stoic but she's been crying many big fat tears she feels so rotten. Dr's appt at 1:20. I hope he can help her feel better before Halloween.

Mornin'

Hugs.
Hi,

I'm back in Florida. Saturday afternoon I drove some on the Blue Ridge Parkway, mostly north of Asheville. The fall colors were beautiful.

Saturday night I stayed in the campground at Mt. Pisgah. The temperature dropped to about 35 or lower, but I was warm. Sunday morning I was up early. I wanted to have breakfast at the Lodge, but my car would not start. In the late morning, a real nice guy helped me. He spent about 1.5 hours searching for the problem. It turned out to be a vapor lock in the gas line! Also, the car could use new points. He cleaned the current ones, which were corroded badly. We were both surprised to discover that my car had a Distributor. After the car was running I broke camp and drove straight home, arriving just a few minutes after midnight. I stopped often and walked a little while. I was trying to try and prevent blood clots from hitting me again.

Well, have a great week.

I'll be in Florida myself in two weeks. I had a free flight to use, so I finally booked something. My sister and I and Evie of course, are visiting my folks. I'm SO happy my sister is coming too to help schlep all the baby crap. Whew!

I had vines all over the trees when I moved into my house also. Fun to swing on. Had to hire a tree climber to pull them out though because they weren't coming down with my weight or even my husband's. Then I landscaped the whole yard. 11 years later I'm still landscaping. I'm just finishing up a brick walkway in my perennial garden designed to look rustic, old, handmade. It wobbles nicely. I'll post a pic when I am done. It has been harder on my knees than any backpacking trip, oddly enough. Have to bend over and stand up with every single brick.

Sass, I hope Abby is feeling better soon. My Lydia was sick the past few days, sore throat, cough, fever. Not fun. She wants to feel better for Halloween. I'm sure that Abby can't wait to go trick or treating too. It is supposed to warm up for Halloween here, which will help.

Good morning, I was up with the early birds this morning. 4:30AM to be exact. The steroid I get infused causes insomnia as a side effect. I was up and working on a hiking gear project at 5AM. One good side effect of not sleeping is you have more time to do things besides sleeping.

Wow, a hiking gear project. What are you inventing now? I had insomnia around 3 AM and gave up trying to sleep. The hospital is full of psychos this week and frazzled me. Need time to hike. Fran is looking into options for staying in NJ so lets hope.

Not inventing anything, but making a sleeping bag. I did make my own pattern so I guess that's kind of inventing in a way. I know there will be no bag exactly like it.

My car thermometer said 36 this morning.

Last night I was on the deck with Reece going over some Cub Scout stuff. It was almost dusk. I heard something down in the woods and looked up. Throught he handrail pickets I could see a deer. We quietly got up and peeked around the grill to see 3 does in the lower part of the back yard. After 5 minutes or so I moved our chairs closer so we could watch them through the pickets instead of over the handrail. No dice, I scared them off. Still, it was pretty cool. Sat a red fox skipped down our left property line, crossed the road and did the same at the house across the street. That was pretty cool to watch.
