A hydraulic splitter is on my list, TB, along with a brush hog, pressue cleaner, larger mower and quite a few other things. The best thing about splitting wood manually (and not that I always like it), is the exercise I get.

Morning! At least I think it is. What day is today???

G is out mowing greens. I told him not to work this weekend, but he insisted he go. Something about wanting to get out of the house. Sure, he gets a chance to go....and then he complained that he didn't want to go this morning. Go figure. Evie actually slept decently last night. We're learning that awake time during the day is actually a good thing!

Anything important I missed on TT this past week?

Can't think of anything much out of the ordinary, except.... You know!

They mentioned a weird book on CBS Sunday Morning a couple of weeks ago.  It was all about mowing your lawn in various geometric patterns.... I was thinking it would be fun for mowing greens to produce optical illusions.... The golfers might not be amused, though -- LOLOL

A strut broke on my rider a couple of weeks ago; the welded part should be returning today. Without the weekly trimming, the grass has grown to the point that the deer seem to favor the ease at which they can graze in my yard and frequent it more and more as we sink into autumn and their coats become darker with the season. It was in the 40's last night, entirely cool enough for one of them to hang from the rafters in my pole barn. "Soon", I promise myself, "soon". First the firewood.

I got a bunch of it yesterday. Some from a big fallen oak that was more than two feet in diameter. No need to try splitting it with an axe and even the wedges only worked to the extent that they were soon buried hopelessly in the crevasse. Following that failure, I cranked up the chainsaw and cut vertical lines the length of the 2 foot pieces. This improved things, but in the end I had to hack away with the axe until the remaining stubborn fibers parted. That's a lot of work to save about $300 a month in heating.

Last night I rewarded myself with a little bourbon...

Good morning! Got to sleep in today. =D The hot weather is gone, sun is shining, only two appointments this morning.

Nimblefoot we recently had a bonfire purely to free a wedge trapped in an elm section. We had to wait a year for the wood to dry out, lol. Right now there's a pile of "splitter worthy" logs growing. Once it's big enough we'll rent a splitter from the place two blocks down. It's ridiculously expensive, ($200+ for a day). A few hours should do it if we work fast enough.

RichB have a wonderful hike.

I think today we'll wrap up the last loose ends of the kitchen and bath. I cleaned the backsplash tile yesterday and will seal it tomorrow. I popped a lower rib out of socket last Wed. and can't do much w/out extreme pain. Had it put back in Monday but I fear it's back out again. The computer chair is especially hurtful, that's why I've been here rarely this past week. I can take a deep breath now but working and any lateral movement of my arms is killing me.
Hope it gets better fast. I've had enough of this business.

You guys have a great Saturday.

I've never heard of popping and rib and having it put back in place (Adam should have had that option, lol). The double whammy is that it hurts to breathe and it's difficult not to. Hope it gets better.

I whimped out yesterday. I split and loaded that last of the bigger pieces of oak and then proceeded a little further into the woods to claim two trees that had been felled earlier in the summer. There wasn't enough room between the trees to use the truck, so I proceeded to put three chunks in the wheel barrow and push it out. After three trips I was finished. One of those times where you know there's not even a choice but to quit. No more gas. I pretty much rested the remainder of the day.

Today I've got to install a toilet, put the riding lawnmower back together and find out why the tractor won't start. Melanie, Les and Freckles are here, so there's plenty of help. It will be good to get those things taken care of. The grass is 6 inches high and the tractor will be needed in a couple of months (if that long) for plowing snow.

Have a great day.

I'm tired just reading your post, Nimblefoot...

I'm on my way, via Sylvania to pick up my parked kayak, home to Wisconsin...

I'm hoping to pass Mataus, a Swede I met in the UP...he's hiking from Halifax to the Pacific...began June 15th...when I passed him near Manistique, Michigan I had to stop...a person with hiking poles, Exped downmat on top of his hiking trailer and Naglene bottle hanging from his waist was worth turning the car around...we chatted a short time, I gave him a Mountain House dinner and desert (apple cobbler) for which he called me an angel...I doubt any of us would get quite so excited about being handed dehydrated dinners but it seems he's been living on oatmeal and ramen...since he's hiking along roads he does have access to shops...he's taking highway 8 across Wisconsin...

have a great day!

Good morning, I had a nice hike yesterday, but it was hot and humid. At least not many bugs were out and there was a good breeze when I got up in the higher terrain. I'm going for a bike ride soon and then try to get the grass cut later if it doesn't rain. September is turning out to be warm month so far and we already broke two temperature records.

THe forecast for the next 10 days says Friday will have a high of 77 here. I really, really hope that's true. Laurel has Thursday off from school (teacher planning day) so I may run her out to the Smokies for a little runaround and me to visit a certain gallery over yonder.

Hey Chili, ever been to the Twisted Vessel gallery in Pigeon Forge? A truly excellent place and great people. I'd love to start exhibiting work there.

Morning! Um, AFternoon! OH, whatever!

Things at the smiley household are crazy. G goes back to work tomorrow, I'm still in a ton of pain, and my mom, who was to arrive tonight to help me out was taken to the hospital via ambulance this morning. Turns out she's OK, she had chest pain and shortness of breath but it doesn't look like its heart related at all. I told her she was having a panic attack due to having to put up with me all week! I think she's coming tomorrow, but I'm waiting for her to call back. Yikes, as if the hormones alone aren't enough to make ya lose it....

Evie is good, we're working on some sort of a schedule. She's really a good baby, I can't complain too much. We've got her out on the porch this afternoon, G is grading papers and I'm writing thank you notes. She's sound asleep in her car seat. :))

Nimble, slow down! You make me crazy reading all of that.

Sass, hope your rib is better! Yikes!

I'll try to check in tomorrow!

hello all! well i went to church this morning, but you'll have to forgive me chappy for not dropping anything into the plate; we finally did run out of money. Steve's disability hits the bank on the 19th and i promise to drop something in after that, ok?

i've decided that BrianSean and i are going to get in on lofthome building in Mexico. our church does this several times a year. they begin in the church parking lot on a weekend and take it down to Mexico the next month. it's one of the two service projects that Brian and i will be doing together.

i didn't get to go rockclimbing today. Christopher's friend David decided that he wanted to go to a climbing gymn instead and i can't afford that, so that's where they went. oh well. i think they just wanted to have sometime together without a mom around. i guess i can understand that.

Good morning! Nope, not much better. Pops in and out and keeps hitting a nerve that spasms muscles all the way down to my sacrum. Back to the Cracker this morning, first thing. But, my house is done!! =D And, we got our lettuce and spinach and radishes planted for fall and Abby goes to school ALL DAY now (which is incredibly cool). So, my plan is to get that b!tch back in where it belongs, first thing, and to lie on an ice pack all dang day if I have to in order to keep it where it goes.

Some of the techniques practiced in aikijutsu class last Wednesday involved blows which could break ribs. I don't think that is quite the same as "popping" ribs, but the pain is likely about the same.

Good morning. The only thing that got finished yesterday was installing a toilet. The water pipes in this old house are so weird that you don't know what you need until you need it. Three trips to town for various pieces and, in the end, finding a last piece of pipe and a couple of reducers in a corner of the pole barn. Looks like I'll need a carbuerator repair kit for the tractor. Probably have to go on line for it, since it's a 1952 8N.

When it got to be late afternoon I declared an end to the work day and grilled some steak to go with steamed potatoes and fresh sweet corn. We had a couple of beers and picked some more corn, cantalope, cukes and pumpkins for them to return home with. We said our goodbyes, Freckles flipped me off, and they were on their way.

Fall crop? You got me thinking garden again, Sass. Maybe I should go shopping for seeds.

Peace.

Good morning, it was hot here all weekend and still is.
Sass, I hope you feel better soon. Rib pain is wicked, it hurts to move, cough or sometimes even to breathe.
I never did get the grass cut over the weekend and I'll have to get to it this week.
My garden got attacked by powdery mildew this year and died. I just read an article in the paper saying that powdery mildew thrives in hot, humid weather with little rainfall. Just the type of summer we had.

Plant now or forever hold your peace! Get some seeds for after the fall crop is done too. Sow them in the snow and first thing next spring you'll have greens. Good luck finding seeds at this time of year though.

Thanks RichB. I've never had this issue before. I hope to goodness I never do again.

So, I spent my afternoon in the ER today. I had some horrible pain in my back today (been having back pain for several days) and ended up calling my doc, who sent me to the ER. After a CT scan and some worries about an epidural absess, turns out I have a urinary tract infection from the catheter I had during delivery. My mom was so lucky to spend her second day in the ER in a row! Jeesh, I'm really gonna have to think about having a second kid after all of this....

Pouring down rain tonight, it sounds so beautiful through the open windows. Feels like such a blessing.

Have a great day on Tuesday, everyone.

Good morning. Had to get up at 1am and shut the windows. I kinda like rain blowing in on my face in the middle of the night. I met Abby in the living room shutting windows. How many six year olds do you know who get out of bed to shut windows in a rain storm? Weirdness.

Back is feeling better. The muscles finally stopped contracting non-stop around 10pm last night. The relief was instant. Feels kinda tender now, and like they could start spasming any moment. I'm staying close to the ice pack again today.

Found a school I want to go to: Oncology and Medical massage at a local hospital. Just $1650.00 for three weekends and clinic time. Think I'll work on that for January. Fall class is filled. =(

Have a wonderful day everyone!

Good morning, I'm glad you are feeling better, Sass. Smiley Girl, I hope you feel better soon too.
I finally got the grass cut last night after putting it off all weekend.
Today, I'm heading out for a doctor appointment and I'd rather being going anywhere, but down there for this appointment. It looks like it's going to rain too and I hate driving down there in the rain.

Weren't you heading to nursing school?

Cloudy and cool this morning. Fine by me. I'm heading to town in a couple of minutes to return some library books and pick up a new supply. Just finished "Thirteen Moons" by the author of "Cold Mountain". I started reading "Cold Mountain" during my AT thruhike. It was so cold in those Georgia mountains during early March that I couldn't keep my hands out of the sleeping bag long enough to read much, so I left it at a shelter. I saw the same book again at Miss Janets in Tennessee when a hiker arrived with it. The damn thing probably beatme to Maine and even climbed Katahdin. Talk about slow; beaten by a book:)

LMAO, Nimblefoot!

I hear ya, SG. Been there, done that, still seriously hesitant about any more kids. I have to say, I love Laurel being in school all day!
