Try being 9 months pregnant with weather like that! I ain't a nice woman.....just ask my husband!” 11:35:22 AM 8/18/07 “Afternoon all. I went to the local farmers mkt. early this morning; There were two local bakers there so I just had to get some goodies from both of them. HPM and i got some trees today, from the local nursery. I'm not normally a crapr myrtle fan, but there's this red variety called "Dynamite" that is a gorgeous red with a great fragrance. We also got a salix contorta "tortuosa," a curly willow in other words. It's going in the back yard when it gets delivered. It'll be awesome in the winter, with twisty winding branches. The leaves are also curly. Very cool.” 12:20:23 PM 8/18/07 “Mutants planted in the backyard.... Cue Rod Serling.” 12:27:53 PM 8/18/07 Hugs. “Good morning.” 1:25:03 AM 8/19/07 “good morning NS. how did you sleep?” 4:15:38 AM 8/19/07 “58F and damp...we finally got some much-needed rain...I've been having a blast planning my 8 day trip Michigan Sylvania Wilderness beginning next week-end...time to turn the de-hydrator on!” 4:34:44 AM 8/19/07 “what are you UN cooking today?” 4:35:40 AM 8/19/07 “Good morning, it's a little gloomy outside and is supposed to rain later. I had to stop taking my pain medicine because I was getting too much digestive distress. I'd rather put up with the pain instead. Now that all the pain meds wore off it's really sore to move or even cough. I'm still going for a hike later, even if I have to just poke along at a slow pace. They said walking is the best thing to do after this kind of surgery so that's what I'll do.” 5:11:49 AM 8/19/07 “Good morning all. We got the damp and dreary of the weather, but the rain continues to avoid us. Canoe shuttling was pretty much cancelled out, so I cut down a couple of dying oak trees for firewood. As the weather cools, the coffee tastes better and better.” 5:30:34 AM 8/19/07 “Morning. Damp and rainy here today. A good day to be lazy. G is already back in bed after mowing greens this morning. RichB, enjoy your hike. You deserve it!” 6:08:42 AM 8/19/07 “Hi Maple...I'm un-cooking an Irani dish I made last week...basically ground lamb kabobs with buttered rice with a yogurt, cucumber, garlic and mint sauce... Then bbqed chicken wings, cut up and mixed with rice... Kraft mac and cheese (comfort food for me...been eating it since 1965) Then I'm thinking I might do an Indian (not whoo-whoo indian but sub-continent Indian) dish...maybe biryani, again with lamb...I have some really nice black cardamons that I would love to use in another dish besides the Irani one...” 6:12:48 AM 8/19/07 “mapleleaf - I slept poorly. Something seemed to wake me up every two hours. Even early this morning the police were knocking at my neighbor's door. Seems that they hauled her in some months ago, but did not keep her long. She was doing some minor sort of redistribution of drugs or pot. (I'm still at my daughter's place. It's in a bunch of condo units. The unit's swimming pool is right behind this one, but it is usually quiet.) mataharihike - Wow, I'd have trouble eating, too, if you served me that stuff. It doesn't sound like anything in my fare. I'm of the bread, butter, meat and potatos clan. Hope you have a great time in the Sylvania Wilderness. last edited: 8/19/07 6:29:52 AM” 6:29:20 AM 8/19/07 “Mata - what kind of food do the "Whoo-Whoo" Indians eat? Jerky and wild rice? Next time I'm at the Hole in the Wall for lunch or dinner, I'll try to observe. But, I know what you mean:)” 6:50:31 AM 8/19/07 “Hey Nimble...I sure know they don't eat dal and rice or curries...when I first returned to the States everyone was confused when I said I was cooking something Indian...that's when I came up with the politically incorrect "whoo whoo Indian"...” 7:02:50 AM 8/19/07 “Mata- you can keep that black cardamon. THat s--t makes me gag. I made the mistake of buying a bag, opening it up and taking a big sniff. I avoid it now.” 8:24:17 PM 8/19/07 “hugs and hot steamy kissessss from N Alabama!!!!” 2:23:57 AM 8/20/07 Hugs. “Good mornintg. It's back for another blood check. They had my blood way too thin on Friday. I was told not to shave, etc. over the weekend, to try not to get any cuts.. Ha, as if I was planing to shave. I did want to get a haircut and have my beard cut down. Oh, on Saturday my car would not start, after sitting for over two months.” 4:23:53 AM 8/20/07 “Good morning all. We have that problem with our camper all the time NS. Charge up the battery! 65° for a high today and 100% chance of heavy rain all day. We needed it sooooo bad. The governor had just announced a statewide burn ban, including backpacking stoves. Two solid days of rain should take care of that. Also keeps me inside, doing what I need to be doing. More tub surround tiling today. Not until after I get my hair done though. Seems hard to believe we're drawing near to being done! Tomorrow the kitchen will be back to fully functional. It's been about 8 weeks. Birch is amazing. Treebait, I spent most of the evening yesterday sorting all those rocks and fossils and choosing the nicest to go into a printers box I hang on my wall. I didn't have enough free spaces! You'll have email in a few minutes...” 5:15:03 AM 8/20/07 “Good morning, It's supposed to rain here too, but only scattered showers. I went for my hike yesterday and did better than I expected. I'm paying for it this morning and woke up very sore. It was still worth it and I had a nice time hiking. I got to sweat out a lot of the pain drugs I was on.” 5:21:01 AM 8/20/07 “good morning, another day without AC :( at least the temps have dropped into the 90's. Hoping to get the AC fixed by Wed.” 5:46:18 AM 8/20/07 “sassafras - We used a total of four batteries in trying to start the vehicle. It does not seem to be getting the gas to the engine.” 6:09:11 AM 8/20/07 “Morning, all. I'm thoroughly enjoying htis cool weather. Unfortunatly, it won't stick around for long. :( The rain is awfully nice too. We're working for a baby this weekend. I'm doing a lot of the wives' tales things, we'll see if any of it works! We spent most of yesterday and will spend part of the day today preparing meals for the freezer. G's finishing up the trim work in the kitchen too and will hang the final light fixture this weekend (unless we're having a baby!). I LOVE my new kitchen! Catch y'all later!” 6:53:03 AM 8/20/07 “Glad you're doing well, SG. Dang, trying to get a kid in for a physical and immunizations is a b!tch around here! FInally found one though. It costs about $30 more than anyone else, but they'll take care of Laurel first thing tomorrow morning. HPM and I sort of got each other trees for our 10th anniversary. 2 of 3 (we carried the crape myrtle home ourselves) are now placed out in the yard, waiting to be dug in. That curly willow is wild looking, and the Canadian hemlock is handsome. The nurserymen got a good laugh at my yard; 90% of the plants in the landscape came from their company. I love Dearness Gardens! They went gaga over some of the rocks that we moved up from Florida too, especially the big 80+ pound chunks of Utah ice. It's a white mica variety and just glows in the sunlight. I need to take pictures. Time to do more digging. It's supposed to be 100 degrees again today.” 7:04:23 AM 8/20/07 “That curly willow is impressive stuff. Make sure you plant it as far away from your sewage and water lines as you can.” 9:49:12 AM 8/20/07 “It's at the back side of the yard, away from pipes of any sort. It's currently lying on its side in a pot, so it's not very impressive yet. My new neighbors really like it though. It's cool having a comic book illustrator next door. Ethan van something or other; he draws "the Green Lantern."” 9:51:45 AM 8/20/07 “Ethan Van Sciver. He's done Superman, Batman, The Green Lantern Ect. First I get a job working alongside the drummer of a defunct band I like and now my next door neighbor draws comics I like. Life is good. last edited: 8/20/07 10:22:45 AM” 10:19:51 AM 8/20/07 “Wasn't Kal-El originally supposed to be the Green Lantern for this sector?” 4:07:32 PM 8/20/07 “Good Morning........all is, well, dark.....but the coffee is good. Hope everyone has a good day ahead. Blessings.” 3:37:01 AM 8/21/07 Hugs. “Good morning.” 4:19:42 AM 8/21/07 “Good morning. We've been getting some rain, though not nearly enough. The canoe business is shut down because all the craft are getting torn up on the rocks. I plan on doing this next year, so I'm hoping for a wet fall and snowy winter. I gobbled the first sweet corn from my garden last night. Yummy! Cantalope are likely ready as well. Perfect timing for my childrens' visit in a few days. I noticed yesterday morning and evening that the deer are beginning to enjoy the unmowed grass in my yard. They can't make a t.v. that equals the pleasure of drinking your morning coffee and watching the deer browse through the yard.” 4:34:19 AM 8/21/07 “You won't have to go far to fill your freezer either. (Moohahahaha...run Bambi RUN!) Good morning. Today is a wonderful day! My kitchen becomes fully functional today (countertops and sink going in) and I bet I get at least 2/3s of the tiling finished today. AND I have a nice new haircut and no longer look like a mushroom's cousin. You guys have a good one!” 4:57:24 AM 8/21/07 “Mushrooms cousin = toad stool? :) You're right, Sass. I've been trying to figure a way to chum 'em right into the house and pose next to the freezer.” 5:04:20 AM 8/21/07 “Morning! I got a positive response from a local tutoring center, so I have to send my resume and paperwork over to them. I really, really, really want to stay in education, so keep your fingers crossed they won't brush off a fat pregnant woman! Still cool here, but the rain has stopped. Going to heat up the rest of the week. Yuck.” 5:54:17 AM 8/21/07 “Good luck Smiley.” 5:57:52 AM 8/21/07 “Good Morning guys and dolls...just wanted to say a quick hello to my friends. Have a super duper day!!! D.” 6:20:59 AM 8/21/07 “Howdy...83F when I left for work at 7:15am. Phew...” 6:26:38 AM 8/21/07 “ "... so keep your fingers crossed they won't brush off a fat pregnant woman!"OK, I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. You reminded me that there used to be a place or places where they used to brush off a man's suit. It could have been a restaurant on the near west side by downtown Chicago, the South Side Swedish Club or elsewhere. Of course, my mother used to do it for me at times. Those were the days when most men wore dark blue, wool suits. This practive was a nice touch and was a real gift for people who had dandriff. Ah sweet memory, where art thou?” 6:47:40 AM 8/21/07 “Howdy all, why is it that when I decide to do something, mother nature has to go and mess with me. So far, we have received close to 12 inches of rain this month and more is expected. Trying to seal the foundation of my house is not working due to the excessive amount of water everywhere. Part of my trench colapsed again yesterday. I am so deep, I cannot get the dirt, clay and sand out. Rain is being forcasted for the next week as well.” 7:07:08 AM 8/21/07 “Sorry. Guess I should not have prayed for rain.” 7:25:55 AM 8/21/07 “I saw blue skies just around sunset for the first time in 4 days yesterday...we didn't get all that much rain...Wounded Knee got it all ![]() Nowslimmer, how much rain did you get? I wish I had enough time to read some of the TR's here...I was spending 8 hours some week-ends just reading but got nothing done around the house...and, things need to be done! Good morning everyone! last edited: 8/22/07 3:06:47 AM” 3:05:02 AM 8/22/07 Hugs. “Good morning. Rain? I have not see any rain, mataharihiker. I ony prayed for rain for some of the others. Enjoy a wonderful day.” 3:42:16 AM 8/22/07 “Good Morning Hugs!!! ....today I go for a test for a job...woooo hoooooooo!!!!!!!...wish me luck!!!!! ...and I see there is flooding in my hometown near Lima, Ohio....so I guess I need to get on my phone today and check on some friends.... http://www.limaohio.com/” 3:57:04 AM 8/22/07 “Mata - I glimpsed that same sun and it looks like we got the same amount of rain. Not enough to run canoes, too much to cut the grass. Today my woodstove gets installed. It's only been since 17 January, but the guy lost $1000 due to his tardiness. A couple of evening fires will motivate me to continue with the firewood search. Have a great day.” 4:31:10 AM 8/22/07 “Good morning, we had over 2 inches of rain in the last two days. Too bad we didn't get it last month when we really needed it. My garden is not doing well at all and most of the plants are dying now. The soil was not good and then fungus began to infect the plants. I'm not even sure I'll bother to plant next year. At least I got to harvest something before everything went downhill. Good luck with your test Divinty.” 4:40:29 AM 8/22/07 “I had something interesting happen in my garden RichB. Normally I get blossom end rot on any roma tomatoe I plant. Started out losing tomatoes left and right and then all the sudden it was gone, or dormant, whatever. I'm not throwing away tomatoes or finding any with the rotten brown ends anymore. Weirdness! Our official rain measurement was 3 1/2 inches. Seemed like a whole lot more. Also seems likewe might get more today. Today will be more tiling, clean up day at Abby's school, and maybe some work but I hope not! Divinity, good luck on your test! SG, how'd things go yesterday?” 5:11:03 AM 8/22/07 “Nothing like starting your morning by stepping on glass slivers. I had to pull 3 shards out of my heel, grumble grumble grumble. I'm definitely not tooling around barefoot for a few days. Laurel's been begging us to take her to toys r us, so we're going to try something new tonight. We're giving her money from her own savings account, and she can get whatever she wants, within that monetary amount.” 5:51:04 AM 8/22/07 “Morning. More rain here, in about an hour. Sure is humid, though. Seems that I'm really dragging on the humid days lately. Sass, I didn't hear anything yesterday. Sent my stuff out to them, though. Then I did a bit of research, and it looks like they only pay ~$9 an hour. So then I got depressed, feeling like every time I get excited about an opportunity, it has a black cloud over it. For that wage, I'll go work at Bronner's, and not worry about impacting lives of kids. Plus, there would be no commute. :) Friend says I'll have the baby tomorrow, no later than Sunday. I'd love that, but I still think I'll go past my due date, next week. If you're the praying type, just pray all goes well with delivery and everyone ends up healthy!” 5:51:27 AM 8/22/07 “Smiley, that baby has a mind if her own. She won't arrive until ready. I'll pray though for health to all :-) Is so humid here. We got a shower or two yesterday but that is about it. Hugs to all! Dee” 6:46:47 AM 8/22/07 “Absolutely! Don't worry about when the baby comes; she will come when she's ready. Just try and relax (watch whatever you want on TV, eat whatever you want, sleep in the middle of the day, take a bath without any interuptions....) and enjoy your last days as a care free kid-less person. You won't have that for another 18+ years. =)” 6:47:43 AM 8/22/07 “Yeah, 34+ years for me. SG, I'm predicting an APGAR of 10. Anyone know what that means?” 6:52:05 AM 8/22/07 Jump to Page << prev
