Good morning, anyone else up? I went hiking and fishing yesterday and caught a few trout, but the creeks are much too low and the fish were spooked. I'm supposed to go bike riding with a friend this evening. That will seem different because I rarely ride with anyone. It might rain later so bike riding might be cancelled, but we do need rain.

Good morning, TTers...and a lovely morning it is...

Yesterday, Bill's 2 daughters brought his 2 grandchildren, whom we rarely see, one boy-friend and a big truck over and proceeded to attack the yard. One mowed the lawn, which hadn't been done in a month with parts untouched for a year. The rest loaded up the truck with dead branches and hauled them off...we haven't been able to see the forest for the dead branches stacked 6 feet tall all along the driveway, a serous fire hazard.

The best thing they did was clear out the area where I want to erect my shed...it's amazing what young, healthy, motivated kids can do. Bill and I kept the kids occupied...it was lots of fun although lovely to hand them back to their mom at the end of the day.

They did in 4 hours what would have taken me 3 week-ends and lots of energy. Now, I can plan a camping or kayaking week-end without guilt... Cool

This week-end has been unseasonably cool and quite brilliant...I'm enjoying a wonderful cappuccino made with the backpacking espresso machine that never leaves the house unless I'm on a really l-o-n-g car-camping-across-the-country trip. Debating how to spend the day...love the luxury!

Afternoon, folks. After church and brunch, G and I fell back asleep. He just got up an hour ago and is busy fixing some plumbing in the basement, I just finished removing wallpaper paste. THANK GOD that's done!

Beautiful day here, mid-70's and mostly sunny. There's a Frank Sinatra tribute concert in the park tonight, I hope we get the rest of our work done and we make it there!

Hope your weekend is/was good!

Good morning, it looks like a nice day outside so far. We had a little rain yesterday, but need lots more. I went for a bike ride with my friend last night along the Lehigh River. It was hot and humid and just a few small climbs on that ride, but I felt pretty good on the bike. If it doesn't rain later, I'll ride again this evening.

.... if you're lucky.  Else, there may be a drought!  (possibly Both --- Murphy's Law)

The mention of Frank Sinatra reminded me of the spoofs Joe Piscopo used to do on SNL of Sinatra singing Christmas carols.

I'll leave it at that, LOL

Morning! Great weekend. Wolfeyes kept me laughing; we had great weather and no one got any injuries, aside from two stings, a bunch of 'squito and deerfly bites and some poison ivy. Okay, ALOT of poison ivy. It's tough being allergic, especially when the stuff is everywhere. Also sold our souls to Home depot. We went in with a list and three HUGE carts later, and a truck rental came home with about half of what's needed to rebuild this place after Nigal and Birch get done with it this weekend. It was hell unloading it all and puting in it's spot in the barn. I was exhausted and sore last night. A good sleep resulted. Those $6 drywall carriers are worth every penny!!

So this week I have to balance my time packing for our time away, in five days, and unloading and packing up a kitchen I still need to use until Thursday. I'm not sure where to start! (help)

Have a great Monday all and cross your fingers we get some rain tomorrow. Stuff is starting to burn around here.

Sass, I feel your pain! This is week 4 I've not had a kitchen, but the good news is the cabinets are going in today/tomorrow! I have no idea when I'll have counters and a kitchen sink, though, so basically it'll remain unusable. LOL!

We've got our food in plastic storage bins under the kitchen table, have been using paper plates and plastic silverware. And, we've been eating out a LOT. Saved up a lot of coupons and gift certs just for this occassion. :) Oh, and pre-made hamburger patties and pre-marinated chicken breasts and OreIda fries (in the toaster oven) have been staples of our diet. I've gotten creative with tin foil meals on the grill.

I have to clean up the basement so my dad has a place to lay his head tonight. Then it'll be time to clean out the garage once the cabinets are out of it, and get ready for the garage sale!

Nice day here, not going to hit 80 degrees. Great day to get a lot of work done! Rain coming tonight.

BTW, Frank Sinatra tribute concert wasn't that good. We got there late, and wonder if the band played all the "good" tunes before we got there. Oh well! They'll be back next year. Neil Diamond tribute is next Sunday. :)

Have a good one, folks!

Mornin'.

Thinking about a possible disability retirement. I'm only working part time now.
I can get about the same amount and not work at all. I will need to sell my house (paid for) and move upstate to a cheaper area as insurance has gone thru the roof here on the coast ($5700 a year for $100K coverage).

SS - That has to be a huge decision for you. At least Hattiesburg (I'm assuming) will put you a couple hours closer to Sipsey.

We made it back from the beach. I really enjoyed the area we went to (St. Joseph Peninsula/Cape San Blas) It wasn't over-developed like other areas. I'm used to 20 story condos as the beach, not small houses (some were big) I can see going back with friends and renting kayaks. Lots of kayaking on the bay side in the marshy areas. Lots of folks snorkeling for scallops and having cookouts too. That sounded fun.

Reece found a palm branch that looked like a broom. We called it his Nimbus 2000. He called it his Nimbus 3000. The boy upped us a model number.

Man, work sucks when you get back from the beach.

Hope all is well with everyone. I did see the bad news over on Cancer Sucks. It does suck.

I would chose to move back to my childhood area in MS, mata. I own 5 acres of land in the country, next to my family. It's about 50 miles inland from the coast where I live now. It is closer to the Sipsey Wilderness (does not do me a lot of good right now, a 1/4 mile is as far as I have walked). :-)

I wish. The Jamaica is a rebook from early June when our passports didn't get here. The beach trip wasn't supposed to happen. We decided that we couldn't let the summer go without taking any family trips so we snuck down to the beach for 4 days. Not as glamorous as it sounds.

Not yet, but it's T minus four days. That wasn't what I was thinking about though, believe it or not.

My older brother(who just got home from Iraq) has court today (for the fourth or fifth time in 8 years), to retain full custody of his oldest three kids. Their Mom is bi-polar or manac depressed or something, (and in good form at the moment), and wants full custody. She's living with some guy no one knows (and always does), totally ignores her daughter and if she gets custody the kids will be in trouble. The court system in GA seems really biased in favor of the Mom. My brother has spent untold tens of thousands of dollars keeping these kids in his household, rarely recieves his child support and is getting worn down emotionally and financially. They can use some words with the Big Guy on their behalf, if anyone's so inclined.

I'm inclined. Prayer said.

Upper cabinets went in yesterday, as well as the two pantries. My dad a G are working on the lower cabinets this morning. Whoo-hoo! I won't have countertops for another week or two, though, so basically the kitchen will remain non-functioning.

I'm pricing things for our garage sale next week. I hope to make a boatload of $$. But pricing is difficult. I guess people can barter down, right?

Crappy day here, rain off and on. Humid as heck. Gonna turn the AC on for the workers. :)

If you're worried about people thinking things are too much, just mention as folks come up to feel free to make an offer, or that prices are negotiable. The price negotiation is most of the fun of a garage sale! Good luck SG.
