You know me, I'm always cool:)

Another work day, but I'm loving it. The hours and the dollars are starting to pile up and I'm thinking of all the winter projects I can afford on the inside of the house.

My eyes are starting to get severely burned because of all the fantastic eyeball liberty displayed by the young female tubers. I'm just not used to how the right bikini and all the things girls do to a belly button can turn the most mundane farm kid into something positively exotic. My eys may offend me but I will not pluck them out. I wonder if the owners realize I'd pay them to work there?

Nimblefoot, you dirty old man!!

I'm up. Darn uncomfortable sleeping last night. Have a chiro and an eye doc appt today, as well as taking care of changing over docs.

Kitchen demolition begins today, and already I'm frustrated with the process. We've done a good job organizing the food and minimal plates/glasses/utensils, but its all under the kitchen table and I can't bend over to get anything. This is gonna suck for the next 6 weeks!!

Had a very low-key anniversary yesterday. Went on the riverboat tour, and that's about it. Stayed in a swanky hotel on Friday night, though, and that was really nice!

1 year down, 49 more to go, as G says. :)

Stay cool everyone!

I think Nimblefoot's summer job posts are some of the best reading I've found here in a while.

There was supposed to be a tile crew here by 8:30 am; no sign of them yet. I couldn't get through to the "supervisor" (idiot woman) I'm supposed to deal with, so I left a very short, succinct yet polite message asking where her work crew was.

Go kayaking of course! Use this month wisely Mapleleaf.

Got out to the garden first thing and picked all that needed picking. Not a bad place to start ones day. Now my hands smell of spicy arugula.

Today is the dentist (I hate it), and then us girls will pick up Birch from work and we're headed to the secret beach. It's gonna be dang hot here today and the duct work is still full of holes so no a/c.

Went to the cabinet place last night and choose our cabinets (Merillat hickory spring valley in natural), and our counter top (granite, giallo oriental). Not as hard to come up with something we both agreed upon as I suspected it would be. It was actually quite painless. Hope the rest of the process goes just as smoothly. Have a friend with a contractor's license buying it all for us at 55% off list. It makes me smile just thinking of all the money they don't get. It'll go somewhere else I'm sure.

You all enjoy your day.

Sass! Those are the same cabinets we chose! Ours are maple.

My dad is here helping G tear out the soffits. OMG, what a disaster. My dad said I'd need a hose to clean out my kitchen. We'll be eating out somewhere tonight.

On the bright side, this will confine me to the basement and I'll be able to get laundry done and make a serious dent in the storage room there.

I too picked what needed to be picked this morning before I went to water aerobics. My garden is OUT OF CONTROL! I'm happy G thinks I have a very green thumb. :)

Have a good one!

Good morning.

I'm lost in Austin. I dropped my daughter and granddaughter someplace, reached for the maps and discovered that she had taken every map of Austin. Somehow I found the library. I'll search for her latter.

Dang, what's with the humidity? We're waiting for the thunderstorms to roll through, and the cooler weather tomorrow. Can't wait.

So, the soffits are out, the first round of drywall dust has been cleaned up, and round two begins tomorrow.

G's ass put a LARGE hole in the garage ceiling while he was up there. Insulation everywhere. Nothing like a little extra drywall work to make your day happy.

I also love being pregnant, up on a ladder helping him hold some plywood up to temporarily cover the hole, and sweeping up insulation. Good times. Yeah.

Hope your day is better than ours.

This day's weather is sucking the life out of meeeeee. Tomorrow will be better. Two days ago we built a huge storage shed for the paddles and life jackets at my job. I'm not a construction guy, with less than mediocre carpentry skills and I also happen to be, well, short in stature (vertically that is). The trusses on the shed extended down to about five feet above ground level. Not being used to having to stoop to avoid anything, I cracked my head a world record of 5 times and have the bumps and scabs to prove it. Good thing I'm Irish. Yesterday I showed up at work wearing a very old motorcycle helmet that I found in the pole barn. As long as I continue providing the comic relief, I'll never get fired.

Now that I'm working, there's more job offers popping up all over. Butcher's assistant, running a sawmill and driving a septic tank truck. The sawmill would be the most rigorous; perhaps a little too demanding, but I'd have acess to free firewood and could cut my own lumber for my home projects (none with trusses extending to 5 feet from the ground). The butcher job would keep me indoors during the cold days and, perhaps, I might swipe the occasional steak:). The honeywagon career would get me a CDL (thus opening new opportunities), a free septic pumping annually, and the opportunity to pump treated sewage on my very barren field, not to mention I would be at the very top of the Trego social strata as the driver of one of Lynn's Honeywagon (it's what every kid wants to be when they grow up). Oh, and I wouldn't have to wear that damn helmet. Opportunities galore.

better check the job description for that honeywagon gig carefully to make sure "scuba certified" isn't a job requirement.

Lot's of drama here. My mom goes in the hospital on Tues. They think it's a pulmonary edema (blood clot in the lung). Not good. Yesterday they decide it's possibly Rheumatoid Arthritis. Not good. I'm going for a visit this weekend. Tues morning Addie threw up. She's taken to the doc and there is a stomach bug going around where the little tykes vomit 1-2 times per day for 4 days. My wife was supposed to leave for a 4 day ladies trip to the beach this morning. We were all set until Addie threw up again last night. She has a 101° temp. She's not going to leave a puking baby with a 16 year old sitter. I'd keep her during the day but I've been training our new engineer for the last 2 days and haven't gotten any of my own work done. Oh yeah, I've got a sinus infection. ALl of this is why I missed the fun of hyways thread, but I did bite fully on the trick. I'll quit b!tching and moaning now. It's a pretty day and life is good. I just hope baby Addie gets better so that my wife can get a much deserved ladies trip. About 3 on Friday I think I'll light out for the folks house (2 hrs) to see mom. This is a bit scary.

Dayhiker, hope everyone feels better fast. Kinda sounds like maybe your mom has the doctors confused. Also sounds like prime time for a second opinion once they get their testing finished and decide what she's got.

Nimblefoot, Butcher's assistant isn't so bad. It's actually pretty cool if you look at it from an anatomy perspective, and you like meat. I betcha it'd be awfully busy during hunting season! I doubt any of the opportunities you mentioned would include the chance to look at college hotties in bathing suits on a daily basis.

dayhiker, my son had a fever, throwups, etc and was really sluggish a few weeks ago. I was thinking its just what has been going around and that we'd give him medicine and loving and let it pass. Then he developed an all over splotchy red coloring. Turns out he had strep throat. He's all better now, but its painful to watch your usual lively little monster just lying around like a bump on a log. On the other hand, its sweet to have him curl up in my arms and stay there for more than 60 seconds.

I hope Addie feels better soon.

Thanks all, just needed to vent.

I had a little neighbor incident last night. The family that's relatively new to the neighborhood likes to really hang out on the front porch and even built a little thing to the left of their house with an umbrella to hangout out in. It's a little weird that it's on the front of the house, but whatever. I hear really loud rap music and figure one of the teenagers is driving by. It didn't stop. I open the door and the little umbrella hangout has about 6-8 teens and a huge speaker is on the front door. Then, I heard the words, gonna buy some crack, gonna buy a ho.....I shut the door and can still make out all of the words. I figure the parents are out of town.

I walk over there and merely, say, "We can hear everyword of the music inside, could you turn it down?" She doesn't acknowledge or look at me, but turns it down. When I get back in my drive she starts yelling at me. I yell back that she's acting like a child. We can act like adults and she can turn her music down or she can act like a child and I can get the police to turn her music down. I'm so thankful I didn't yell out something about a redneck, though I wanted too. The bass boat in the front yard sort of tipped me off. The kids know something is going on so that means they want to play outside. I sit in the drive against my car. Everytime the girl (14) walks towards her radio she yells at me. It keeps on and I finally yell back that if she can't act like an adult that her parents and I can chat when they get back in town. I'm informed that they're inside now. I didn't expect that, but said nothing. THey move the radio and the mom comes out. I hear the teen yelling that "He made me move the radio." Mom glares a bit. In a bit dad comes out and is walking towards the house, chest pushed out. I hop up and walk towards him. We meet in the street, I immediately offer my hand and ask how he's doing.

Fine, what's the problem?

No problem, the music was loud enough that I could hear every word and there's some language that's not so hot.

Damn rap, I don't like it either, your kids don't need to hear that.

No they don't. I walked over and nicely asked if she could turn it down, wasn't acknowledged, but she turned it down. WHen I got back in my drive she started yelling at me. I retold the scenario.

He said you can't argue with a teen, you'll never win, just come get me if you have issues.

Cool.

The kids really want to play in the yard now. Emma is front at center at the closest corner of their yard to ours. After a bit I come out and she's on her bike. THe mom is helping her. I walk over and say thanks. I say that Emma had wanted to bring the girls flowers but I told her that wouldn't be a good idea because the girls are mad at me. The next thing I know, the mom, dad, my wife, and I are all chatting mid street and he's offering to help me move because he had a trailer. THey already knew we were building. What brought it up was he said, "What's up, I move in and everyone moves." About 5 houses have gone on the market, but it's all been life changes. A baby for us, divorces or job changes for others. Turns out the, the guy poured the concrete on my new house and is a dang nice guy. All 4 of us were tripping over ourselves to be nice.

Good Morning fellow TT'ers (sounds like a potty patrol).........It's been rainin here pretty much every day or at least sprinklin...Mom called yesterday to tell me she had 11 inches of rain overnight in Round Rock, north of Austin. Duh!.....
Looks like Marble Falls west of Austin got 19 inches in like six hours, 10 of that in two hours......holy canole..........
I suppose Nowslimmer and family (little Hannah was a little sweetie pie, my wife just loved her to death) are traveling thru all that crap but they should have gotten out by the time it really got nutz.....but they had to go west thru the hillcountry, now that could be dangerous if they got caught in it out there, lots of low water crossings.
Debs is still living the life of leisure and I'm running like a mad man visiting everyone. Gave my testimony to the teens last night about life on the streets, and all the amenities of such....well, they know the score now.............laterzzz....

My first comment is that what made America great is front porches and people using them. You got to know your neighbors better then, easier to strike up a conversation. Now everyone cloisters in there back yards behind hedges and fences.

My second comment is that my teenage daughter is never going to talk to my neighbors like that and still expect to have friends over or any other privileges.

Third thought is cool that you worked it out with the neighbors.

Very true on the front porch thing hyway. I will admit that the baying bassett tied to the tree in teh front yard and the boat were putoffs to me. Every morning at 5 am you'd hear it. That sort of colored my thinking on them from day 1 which really wasn't fair.

I'm dang glad I always waved to them as I drive by.

hyway, you're on target with the point about porches. In the late 60's when front porches went out of style and moved to the back, America lost something. We all started losing touch with our neighbors and became reclusive families. That was one major shift that caused us to lose our neighborhoods personality. Even though the kids are making a bunch of noise and hanging out in the front, they are helping us, in a roundabout way, to reclaim what we lost. Perhaps we'll notice and once again get our neighborhoods back.

I do wish I'd noticed if the teens were drinking. They were definitely smoking. Who lets teens smoke at your house, especially when your daughter is 14. He did say it was her birthday.

When all 4 of us were chatting the daughter even walked over and sort of glanced at me with her face down. I took that to mean she'd gotten a butt chewing.

ah.....neighbors....at least she's learning what I grew up knowing: that if you screw up in the 'hood, the neighborhood parents had the same authority as mom and dad....
