Morning!

Hot day here. Back from my walk and ready for lunch, and then possibly a nap. I have to babysit at 2PM, and then have a massage later tonight.

I'm looking for some volunteer work to make my life worthwhile, but am not sure where to start. I know there are a million opportunities in my city, but I don't know how to get going with it. Any advice?

SG, just decide what or who you want to help out and start making calls. When I was pregnant I volunteered at a crisis pregnancy center. All I did all day long was sort donations and put together layettes for women who couldn't afford baby clothes. It didn't seem like a big deal when they told me what I'd be doing on the phone, but when I saw the mountain of garbage bags of donations to be sorted, washed and folded.... anyways, after three monthes of going in 2x a week they were all caught up and then I had to volunteer my time to my new family. =)

smiley I am ahuge fan of volunteering!!!

if you love animals go to your local animal shelter. of look for a wildlife shelter and help out.

go to your local YMCA or your local outfitter and ask about hikes with the kids over the summer. you can become a trail leader.

become a trail blazer, and help out working on the trails by removing logs and ect.....

I have done all the aboove and I am a better person for doing them all. i meet great people and learned so much. go on line and do a search for local volunteer programs

Sorry folks, but I was here next, so I absorbed all of Divinity's hugs.

Day 2 of cleaning the rental unit, but it's just finishing off things like the oven, vacuuming where I shampooed and tidying up the lawn. Those ex-tenants will pay for taking my valuable time!

A huge oak fell in a wind storm a week or so ago. It's not that far from the house, just up in the woods, so there's easily accessible firewood. If I can't get the truck up there, the tractor will do. Maybe I'll scout around, expose myself to more tics and see what else has been knocked over. There is sooo much work to do, but at this point it seems to be energizing me. Every day I automatically wake up at 5:00 and there is actually spring to my step.

good morning everyone. well, we got the house in good shape so far. the doggies like the covered back porch and their new back yard. there are less boxes in the garage and the cupboards are filling up quickly. I got the cable modem in yesterday and am now top flight. I'll get some pics up next week of the place so you all can looky see.
Nimble(springy)foot, glad to hear you're enjoying the work. I feel good myself after all this moving. My muscles ache but that is the best part.
Hey, any hugs left for me?

Morning all! I slept in this morning; I didn't crawl out until 6:40. :P

My poor neighbor has had nothing but bad luck with her house. Not only is her entire front yard trenched and muddy (the irrigation co. didn't pull permits, so they had to dig out and expose everything for the inspector, who hasn't shown up yet) but now the plumbing for the entire house is backed up. just in time for her elderly aunt (93, but don't tell anyone!) to visit for the next week or so. Guess I'd better go clean the downstairs BR, if they need to use it.

Good morning everyone!!!!!!

Finally, summer break is here. All my kids are now out of school so instead of getting up at 6:30 am I can sleep in till 7:15. I don't have to get anyone ready for school, find lost shoes, library books or punch any kids in the face. Just get myself ready and leave. Felt pretty weird.

Morning! We're on to stomach bugs here. Abby spewed vomit all over two different rooms two nights ago, Birch came home from work just in time to throw up in his own bathroom.

The insurance man gave us $10,000 so we're busy trying to figure out how to stretch it and use it best. We'll be doing new floors in the lav and kitchen, new cabinets, new drywall in both rooms, and a new kitchen ceiling, at least. The best way to save money.....doing the work ourselves.( Oh joy )
BUT, in several months it will all look shiny and happy and new!!
Anyone wanna help with the demolition? I hear it's almost as good as therapy and we won't even charge anything. Shoot, we'll even give you beer! Birch is going to get to use his new FUBAR I guess.

It makes me tired just thinking about it but that's probably because I'm just starting to feel a tiny bit better today. Whatever that stuff was/is, it knocked the stuffing right outta me.

Have a good day everyone.

Kitchen demolition is enjoyable. We helped my brother strip down the kitchen in a house built in the 20's. We found beautiful wide plank flooring under layers of lino, tar, and all kinds of crap. What he thought would take a week took us a day.

Anyone else ever have weird dreams on mucinex? Remember that Seinfeld episode about the date with "Man hands"? I dreamt that people were making fun of me for having man hands, lol. The more they laughed, the faster my hands morphed into man hands.

Time to get up boys and girls. Are we on strike? Back to the duplex this morning; cut the grass and (maybe) wash the windows. I cut up the fallen oak last night; pretty well dead before it fell. Ready to burn where she lies:) Being so close to the house and all, it was kind of the perfect firewood tree.

Good morning, I went down to the local hospital this morning for a blood test and was the first one there. It worked out great because then 8 people came in behind me so I was in and out in a few minutes with no waiting.
It's a beautiful day out. I should cut the grass tonight, but I'd rather go for a mountain bike ride.

I love it when things like that happen! Glad you didn't have to waste a gorgeous day sitting and waiting RichB.

We are all feeling much better today. Coffee tastes somewhat good, I can breath through my nose, and the only part of me that aches is my back and that's probably from laying around for three days.
Better just in time to pack up Abby's and my gear and head up north for a week tomorrow afternoon, after work.
We're going back to Camp Grayling for six days of playing outside, swimming and kayaking. This is definately the very best part of growing up in a military family.

Morning. Just got back from a water aerobics class with a friend. Going to run into the "city" - I forget why I'm going, but G needs some molding for the new sliding door he installed yesterday. Looks like a new kitchen, though the cabinets and floor are yet to come.

Sass, glad you are feeling better. I will respond to your e-mail soon!

Craft show in town today too, will hit it later. Might stop by a garage sale too. Had success yesterday - bought 5 more baby outfits/sleepers, for $5. I love this town!

I'm up and headed for my ptj. It rained last night and is foggy as hell right now, not the best time for the tourist kiddies to be tubbing down the river. It's supposed to rain all day, but the recent history of forecasting accuracy suggests hot and sunny. The weather has been consistently hot to the point that the old farm house stays quite warm throughout the night. Some nice tower fans keep the air circulating and make it very sleepable at night. There's also the very cool basement if nothing else works.

I'm up...sort of...sitting on the couch.

I had my first personal trainer session last Thursday and I can barely move my body. That trainer almost killed me. My legs are sore, my arms are sore, my stomach is sore...it was painful but they are suppose to push me out of my comfort zone and I'd say they do their job well. I'm still planning on climbing Kilimanjaro next year and I'm gonna be in great shape when I get there!

Busybee's "hip hop" dance recital is tonight and she's the star of the show...I always enjoy the dance recitals so I'm looking foward to that.

Hey Nimblefoot...I've hiked the AT from Springer to Front Royal as of last month. I've been too busy to file a trip report. I did SNP last month and the trail was excellent except for one day when I walked on rocks all day. Maybe I'll finish the whole trail one day...that's the plan.

Strange concept, this car in the garage idea. I have a 2 car garage and a 45 x 45 pole barn. My truck hasn't been indoors since I got it started.

Stew, if you're that tore up over all those body parts, maybe you're doing too much too vigorously. My son has many years as a personal trainer and, I believe, he advocates alternating upper body, back/abs and lower body on different days. I don't think he is a proponent of working out to the point of that much soreness. Muscle growth/strength gain requires rest, not just tearing down. If you already knew all this, just ignore me.

Thanks Nimblefoot. I think she pushed me a little to hard the first day. It was very eye opening though...I thought I was in shape and apparently I'm not! Ha! I think for a 43 yr old man I'm very fit, but I want to push it to the next level. I'm motivated so we'll see what happens!

Busybee's recital was great last night. She was front and center with blonde hair flying during her last hip hop routine. She always goes hiking with me on Fathers Day but not this year. Hopefully we'll get out soon.

Good morning everyone...the bear in my yard knocked my very expensive, 12 inch stainless steel (I moved to steel after the last bear broke my glass one) gazing ball off it's stand where it rolled down our 1/4 mile driveway...I thought it might have rolled into the highway but, luckily for me, it wedged itself into grassy hole at the last turn before the driveway joins the highway...
