I planted three maples in my backyard, many years ago...they were just twigs. One thrived, one died right off, and one struggled along...
Of the two I have left, one is taller than the house, and the other is half the size, late in getting leaves, and just a runt...both are full of birds.

I just had a piece of the most disgusting cake I've ever seen...
http://www.grantsbakery.com/cakepics/overthehill/Turd%20Cake_t.jpg

today I get to leave at noon for kidlet picnic at school, and after that I may just take a run out to Joe Jones and check out their going out of business sale - I see a new kayak in my future!

Yep, this maple was a runt. I thought it was dead last year but finally in late May the leaves showed up. That is why I thought I could perk it up that late in the year.

Yep, big pisser. This rebooking has caused a major domino effect on trying to get the kids a beach trip. We were looking at going down to the Cape San Blas/Port St Joe/Mexico beach area. It's far enough east of I65 that it's much less crowded/less pricey. It is a litte longer drive, but not too bad. I don't have a clue when we can go now. I've got tons due the rest of hte month, first weekend in June is a family wedding and then Jamaica will be here before we know it. The kids start school the week we get back from the Caribbean. I'll quit #&%!$ing now, because I'm getting good trips and making it look like a whiner. I do want the kids to get a beach trip though.

Morning. Been sleeping pretty badly, so I went back to sleep after G left for work. Still not feeling spectacular.

Going for a gestational diabetes test this morning, then to the seamstress to see if she can put a dirndl back together before the big parade this weekend. I look like the biggest beached whale in it, and I can't drink, so I'm wondering how much fun Bavarian Festival will actually be this weekend. :)

G's last day of school is today, and the kitchen remodel starts next week. OH, and I bought a crib at a garage sale yesterday for $50 - its in great condition!

Have a good day!

SG - that crap you drink for the diabetes test is nasty. I hope that goes well for you because you won't want to get re-tested.

If you can't drink at the Bavarian festival then you can at least eat lots of sausage and pastries. The results of you eating lots of sausage will then be punishment to G for his getting to drink.

DH - I already had to do a test at 12 weeks, and honestly I didn't mind it that much. I'm just glad I don't have to fast or anything beforehand!

Poor G gets punished in many other ways - this whole pregnancy thing is his fault! LOL! I will likely partake in a single small beer at the parade on Sunday. That'll be it for me though. And I HATE drunk folks when I'm not drunk. Should be an interesting day. :)

Well that's good. My wife hated the stuff. She had to fast though each time I believe.

It is his fault. I vividly remember during delivery of our first I was was holding a leg over my shoulder and yelling, "PUSH, PUSH, PUSH!!!!" Her face was red, her eyes were bulging and the look on her face said, "Go to hell, RIGHT NOW." She didn't have to say a word.

In spite of all the inconveniences, it is a really happy time. I can't believe my caboose baby turned 9 months today. Here's a backyard photo from yesterday:

The wind was blowing and it made her look like she had a mohawk.

Just remembered.... there was a lady preacher on public radio a month or two ago.  She said the first thing when she got to her new church was to not worry with organising her office and whatnot so much, but to go visit with all the sick folks and shut-ins.... and that got her 'in solid' with all the little old ladies.  She said once you're 'in solid' with them, you are definitely In Solid,  VBG

That's right. Back a few years, my youngest daughter at age 7 had open heart surgery. Our church's new minister had only been here two days, but he showed up 50 miles away at the hospital in Orlando and kept me busy in conversation throughout the surgery.

Up since 5:00, finished with coffee (is that even possible?) and bacon is sputtering in the frying pan as I type. A bear raided my yard last night, knocking over the grill, a small patio table and draining the bird feeder. Must be a slow bear since there's plenty of new fawns to eat right now. Day two of the canoe shuttle career beckons. Will I get to drown someone from Illinois, or have to settle for someone from the Twin Cities? Stay tuned.

Well I've been up since.... about 15 minutes ago!  I did something purely evil on Friday --- I bought 12 oz of unblended Kona beans.  I did plan ahead, and they all fit in the vacuum canister (except the correct amount for one pot which was just as great as I remembered).  They should stay fresh for some time, now.  I just hope it doesn't ruin my tastebuds for my everyday Dark Roast!

It was 97 degrees here too. Sucky weather for pond digging in red clay if you ask me. We got the area for the pond scalped though, and HPM got some funny photos of me flinging mud clods down the hill with a shovel this morning. From ground level the pond area looks very small. From the upstairs window, it looks huge. Interesting optical effect.

Anyone here familiar with Mechanix brand gloves? I love these things, and was delighted to find they now carry them in women's sizes and styles. I like the pretty red flowers, lol!

We had a fun weekend. Sat we went to the waterpark in B'ham. It was a fun day with the kids. Afterwards we hit a great taco stand type Mexican place and had shrimp taco with poblano peppers. Afterwards we made it to an ice cream parlor. Sunday as we left church some friends asked us if we'd like to come over to swim. Another couple came as well. We swam for 4 hours. My shoulders are a little crispy but it was fun that the whol weekend got to be spent with the family doing fun things.

The rest of the week and next weekend will be spent getting the house ready for sale.

Yesterday was 10 hours of canoe shuttling and all the various sub tasks that go with it. I had to wait 3 hours at the St. Croix River for my last pickup, four young people who eventually arrived in good spirits and mildly drunk. Once the van was in cell phone range, I called in and reported that they had kidnapped me, drug me to the Hole in the Wall and were forcing me to gamble and to drink. I left my bosses with that thought until I drove in about 45 minutes later. It was a fun day.

Today is about cleaning house, doing laundry, changing oil in the truck, weeding the garden, finishing the damn fence, grocery shopping....and fishing. The only mandatory part of that list is the fishing, so I suspect my priorities are right. Hope all you scummers are having a good day.

I already spent some time working on my "damned pond," and HPM wants to get working on his own "damned fence." We're looking at big fat bamboo sections, if we can budget it.

Ugh. I worked in the pond area with a pickaxe for an hour and 20 minutes. I want to do ore, but then I'll be down for the count for a few days. That clay really sucks once it dries out.

I now have a song called "Po Lazarus" going through my head from working in the pond. It's from "O Brother Where Art Thou." The only problem is I was double-timing it.

Cute picture, SG! SO when can we start calling you Smiley Mom?

Morning! I made it just in time, lol.
Busy day and I am sick as can be. Miserable cold going around here. No time to rest today though. Have a field trip to the bowling alley with the kindergarteners in an hour, got the teacher's gifts bought and cards filled out, went and swapped my little car for grama's minivan this morning. There aren't enough drivers again. You'd think someone might be able to take a day off work once in awhile for their kid?! We've only had three field trips all year because of lack of drivers.
Tomorrow is the last day of school (HOORAY!).

SG, you look great! =)

Have a wonderful Monday everyone.

I just cleaned out one of the bins that I put koi eggs in, and I now have 7 good looking fry. One is a "magoi," which looks like a wild carp. THe others appear to be all orange or sanke, which is white ground with orange/red and black markings. Heck, by the end of the month they'll all be totally different colors anyways.
