Good morning, it's a beautiful morning here, but the hot weather will be here tomorrow. We need rain too and all of May has been too dry. The few showers that we had over the weekend didn't do much.

speaking of dry, I saw something yesterday that I have never seen before in the 12 years I have been in our house. The grass between my septic drain fields was very brown and ugly. I was a bit shocked. Usually the dang grass stays green and lush and grows way to fast all summer no matter what I do to destroy it. We were connected to the county sewer system last fall, so now I guess I am going to have to water that section from time to time.

"The Grass is Always Greener over the Septic Tank" was a funny book. I can't remember who wrote it though.

I just spent 2 hours outside. Thanks to fish spawn I had to disassemble the filtration systems for the quarantine bin and clean the filter components, pumps, lines, and scoop out handsful of caviar from one of the primary filters. Blech. I really want to get going on the new pond now but nope, I have to head to Florida...I still have to pack, clean etc.

Hey, divinity, Venus Flytraps grow naturally (ie, indigenous) only within a 50 mile radius of my office chair (actually the exact center is probably a few miles south). I have seen them growing in the wild away from any trails on many occasions. I have also seen several varieties of pitcher plants and other carniverous plants. There is also quite a few trails and gardens around here where you can see them growing in the "wild".

Good morning, it's warm and humid this morning. It's going to be hot today and right through the weekend. I'm not sure the fishing is any good because the streams are getting too low from lack of rain. It's early in the year for that to happen and I hope the whole summer isn't hot and dry like this.

I'm still groggy. I haven't gottem more than 4 hours of sleep a night for the past few nights, and last night dad offered me one of his prescription sleeping pills. Wow. I was very sleepy within half an hour, and didn't wake up once in the night despite having Laurel in the room with me and my mom's snoring in the next room, literally rattling a picture on the wall.

My passport is still not done. They put an order in for it to ship today. I explained that if it's not in the mail Tues night it's a little late for me to claim travel insurance.

I started chatting with the guy and he said that they get lots of people mad as hell that their passports aren't ready and they find out the people are traveling to Florida. I had to LOL at that one. I said, "Well, it is below the Mason Dixon line, but it's still part of the country. Didn't that get settled almost 150 years ago?" That's funny as hell to me.

...anyway....we may take in the fort...or maybe the Mardi Gras Museum...
...going fishing tomorrow...wooo hoooo....Lee caught some pretty nice fish last time...a 2lb something bass...and a 3 lb catfish....wooohooo....we sat in the boat all day...(they will not let me take my kayaks in to fish out of...said they would disturb the fishermen...BUT they have these noisy aluminum boats ya can either paddle or use a trolling motor on...I didn't quite see their point...grrrrr...)
..but by the end of the day my butt hurt..and I got sunburned....(still itches...)
..ya'll bet proud of me...I was reeling in my line, and Lee said "you have a fish."..I said "no..I'm just reeling in" ...I was too busy watching the herons fish... He said "I'm tellin' ya...ya got a fish"...well...i did have a nice bass....I reeled him in...and he jumped off the hook...so I am doing the "girly scream/giggles" cause I couldn't get ahold of him....and I tried twice to pick him up by the tail...and he slid right out...and I knew Lee was getting irratated with me cause he said "ya know noise travels on this lake...pick him up by the body"...so I did and threw him back in the water, so I can catch him next visit!!!
...so..maybe this weekend will be as good a fishin weekend as last....

I'm enjoying Barry's rain, although I wish this was over my house instead of my parents' house. Of course I forgot all of my rain gear for thsi trip to Florida, EXCEPT for Laurel's rain pants and the 2 umbrellas already in my car. I lost my rain hat somewhere in the move. Dang I miss that thing. It's my most impotant piece of gear.

Everything has come up in my garden, green beans, peas...oops, not the carrots...sweet corn, onions, pumpkins, cukes, cantalope, etc. etc. I started weeding this morning. My pc got zapped by lightning (despite the surge protector), but I got a new one free. I have to haul a few wheel barrow loads of firewood up to the stacks by the house, maybe get that chore finished tomorrow and start cutting a new load. This evening I'm out in the canoe for a little pan fishing. Those pans are hard to catch, tires not so difficult.

Sass, the spuds are up in the "tire garden"; time for another layer of tires in about a week. Progress is being made, begrudgingly so.

Up early, a slow drizzling rain waters my garden while my runaway cat hides in the bushes. I caught half a dozen nice fat bluegills yesterday evening and fried them up for dinner. Now that the woods are full of new growth, I have found wild raspberries, blackberries, blueberries and strawberries that will be shared with the local bears in the later summer. Some will end up in my freezer...maybe the bear too.

On my way to town early this morning to get brakes on my old truck. Hopefully I will make some progress on my firewood project and begin the weekly process of lawn mowing (about 3 acres). The ticks are still horrendously bad. A couple of weeks ago I stopped counting after pulling off 30. I've never been so chewed up in my life. Nibbled up yes, chewed up no:)

Got the brakes fixed on the old farm truck yesterday and moved some tires so the ones in the front are the same size and so are the ones in the back. I can now drive down the road at 60 without it shaking to pieces. Previous safe speed was 45. Some of the afternoon involved cutting more wood, but none got hauled since it was too big to get in the truck. I misplaced my favorite splitting wedge. Later I made one more stack of "tire potatoes". This place is a bit more to manage than anticipated. I am also a bit older than anticipated. Looks like there may be a renter for the duplex, an incredible relief:)

Great quote. I experienced that last Wed when I went for a jog for the first time in probably 6 months. There is a loop around the house that's maybe 1.75 miles. I had to stop 3x and was still sore on Sat. I ran it again last night and still had to stop 3x, but I'm not really sore this morning. My stops basically involved walking for 30 yards or so before continuing running.
