I see now, I think. TD hasn't posted on this thread in forever, surely you see that the comment was a bit out of context for the discussion and was therefore a bit confusing.

Good morning, rain is will be here in a few hours. I was hoping to go fishing this evening, but rain will probably change my plans. Thunderstorms usually get the streams too muddy if the rain comes down hard.

Traveling most of the day today. My garage slab, porch slab, and storm shelter roof are being poured today. When I get through with meetings I'll swing by and put the curing compound and sealer down. I figure since I'm wasting all this money on a new home I might as well make sure the concrete doesn't crack anymore than it has to 8)

chappy - how'd you get to move so quick? Moving day in N Ala Conf is something like the first weekend in June. We're losing our Assoc Minister. She's been here 6 years and came straight out of seminary. She's getting her first gig as Sr. Minister. For our church she was the first female and also stayed longer than any minister in the churches history (100 years or so). She's excellent. Our next Assoc is also female and coming straight out of seminary.

Where our current one first came some of the Baptist churches wouldn't show up for the community Holy Week services our church hosts every year. Can't have skirts speaking in public, dontchaknow.

dayhiker,
my move will be the first week of june, 5th or 6th. The preacher replacing me here is a woman and it will be her first solo pastorate. She's been an associate in bigger churches for years but now gets to fly on her own. She's really sharp too and I got to take her all around town and introduce her to all the good baptists also. I think they'll like her too. The men in our church had a big fish fry the day she came and she handled that bunch with ease and poked fun at em too. I feel really good about my replacement here. I was up at my new church yesterday to meet the PPR committee and chat with them and listen to their dreams, visions, desires about expanding ministries. What is really cool is that they are all outdoorsy types who like hiking and such.......we'll do a bangup job of creating new outreach programs since Daingerfield has a state park in it "Daingerfield State Park". They have already tried a couple hikes with the kids there and realize the possibilities so they are really excited to be getting a pastor that is an outdoors person and eco-conscious...........

That is neat. I wish we'd do more outdoorsy stuff. A men's retreat was attempted this spring but fell through. It was announced late and most folks already had stuff on the calendar, including me. A family has about 100 acres just outside town with a pond. They're property borders the Coosa River. The intent was guys of all ages fishing, sporting clays, 4 wheelers and the like with various small groups. I really hope they get it back together for the fall.

I was on the PPR when Sherri came to our church. Our sr minister at the time broached the idea and everyone said go for it. She was immediately embraced. One of the smartest things that was done early is she was put in charge of the Ageless Wonders program. Basically, all the little old ladies immediately loved her, which meant their grouchy husbands had to as well whether they wanted to or not. That made the single largest and most powerful group in the church be on her side from day 1. I don't know if they did all of this on purpose when they gave her that duty, but's it's how it played out. The only reason we didn't lose her last year is that she had a baby due within 2-3 months of the move date and the DS was made well aware of the situation.

Glad to hear that, esp. about the "ageless wonders" group. It's always a smart thing to (in the first week) spend the time visiting the shutins, retirement comm. folks, nursing homes, etc. That will pretty much get you started on the right foot. Oft times a preacher might spend the first week unpackin and setting up his/her office....a mistake.

chili, Dunadan, arky, and a few others did a trip to the Buffalo Wilderness, I think it was. We baked a pizza right on the river bank. We made the oven out of rocks.

From now on, HPM's not allowed to leave for work without waking Laurel up to say goodbye, no matter how deeply asleep she is.

He tried to wake her up this morning but it didn't work. As soon as she found out he was gone already, boom she's back in her bed sobbing. It's like this every time. Any other parents have a problem like this?

I'm always out the door way before they wake up. I think you sort of have to go all or nothing for awhile then if they see you in the morning it's a bonus. I do miss seeing them in the morning but I decided long ago that since 40 hrs doesn't cut it in my field that it's better to work mornings when they're asleep than evenings and mess up family time. Sounds like maybe HPM is making the same decision.

Now she's running around like nothing ever happened earlier. She's chasing the cats, scaring them with a toy trumpet that sounds like a squeeky toy. She's also been out back, running through a sprinkler and discovering that water on a cool breezy morning isn't the greatest idea.

Every morning the first thing out of Abby's mouth is "Where's Dad?!". When I tell her he's at work she never fails to give a huge sigh and frown. We rarely get any tears anymore, thankfully, but we used to everyday almost.

We have some minor to me, major to Abby trauma going on too. She lost her first tooth two days ago. The agreement was that once the first tooth came out she had to quit sucking her finger at night. So far it's been two nights successful but not w/out a whole lotta drama. The goal is two weeks. After two weeks w/out the finger at night she gets to take a friend to Chuckie Cheese for dinner. Last night she told me "Chuckie Cheese just isn't worth it!!", lol.
It's cool this morning at 40°. We had a good

Morning, peeps.

Nice sunny day here. Not going to get to 70 degrees, though. TOmorrow I am working the concession stand a G's baseball tourney (but it the end of the season, thank goodness!) and Sunday I'm headed to the Detroit Tiger's game.

I hit the jackpot at the city-wide garage sale yesterday! Shopped from 8-4, only spend $100 and got a TON of baby stuff. I'm SO EXCITED!!! Lots of girl clothes, and very few are pink. :)))

Have a great day - I'll be cleaning out the baby's room so we can actually walk in it. :)

Great story. We were going through old photos the other day and my wife got a bit weepy too.

My mom got me a super man watch for my first day of first grade. I kept it. I can't recall now, but I wore it either the first day or last day of 12th grade. My mom really bawled.

For the smart a's, I really just wrapped it around my wrist for photos on the last day of school. Hey, now that I think of it, it must've been the last day of school. That makes more sense.

Morning all! Hope you all had a wonderful weekend. We didn't get out on the trails but spent the day yesterday walking a friend's farm, looking for morels. We did pretty well, got about a pound. Most of them are tiny but I found about five that were around six-seven inches tall. I have never cooked them before. I'm off now to research eggs and morels....

Good morning, I had a nice weekend of fly fishing and caught a bunch of trout. The weather could have been better and it rained both days, but not until later in the day so it could have been worse. The black flies are out in full force and I have some good bites to prove it.
