Thanks Sass, all turned out to be perfectly fine. Just a terrible miscommunication between doctors that caused the panic. Baby is perfectly fine, and so am I. :) (Though I won't mention how frickin' ticked off G and I are at the doctors!) Had a crazy day between the doc appt and subbing 1/2 day today. The 8th graders were SERIOUSLY obnoxious and disrespectful! I sent one down to the office each hour I was there. I guess they groaned when they found out I was their sub - I'm known to be a b!tch of a sub! But the teacher was elated I was going to be there. :) Guess I'm doing something right! Looking forward to a weekend with no plans. Lots to do, but nothing to be at. Chat with you all later!” 4:13:45 PM 4/25/07 “Glad everyone is well.” 4:26:33 PM 4/25/07 “Good morning, I'm off to get my second esophagus dilation soon. I just hope it works and the operating room doesn't get backed up like it did the last time. I waited around over 4 hours just to get started last time.” 4:12:52 AM 4/26/07 “Good morning, time to go get certified for erosion control.” 5:12:10 AM 4/26/07 “"portable battery humper"...LOL...sometimes typos are almost better than the real thing...great name for a portable battery Jumper, son't you think? It could be so many things..probably just the battery which is a few years old...at least, I hope it's just that... Have a great day, all...another day here with low's in the middle 40's and highs in the middle 60's... last edited: 4/26/07 5:31:41 AM” 5:30:32 AM 4/26/07 “Good luck Rich. Glad for the good new smiley. We had a few scares with our first that the doc's didn't do a good job of communicating on. I feel for ya. Hyway - sounds like an exciting day. I'm getting excited about the office retreat tomorrow. I just wish the water level was higher. You go this time of year because of the big flows from the spring rains. It hasn't rained in my area in 2 weeks. The river is at minimum rafting levels. Oh well, it's mainly about getting away from the office and goofing off so it'll all be good. One guy in the office who hasn't rafted before said he had a bit of anxiety about the float. In Deliverance (we're rafting the river where this was filmed) one guy dislocated his shoulder and Burt Reynolds broke his leg. I told him that if those are the two things in that movie that scared him then we were going to have to use this retreat as a chance to work on his prioritizing skills. I'd wager a guess that neither of those events are the first ones to come to mind when you think Deliverance. ![]() http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=esl2NNOtHQE Dueling Banjos clip, not the one you thought I was linking.” 5:39:08 AM 4/26/07 “holy shlt dude! Tell Jeremy he should think about a new dentist. LOL!” 5:41:13 AM 4/26/07 “Ugh, 85 for the high today. That's too early for it. Very little chance of rain, either. I have to start my koi pond filtration and construction wish in earnest today. Oh yeah. We've got an agreed contract on the house, again. Yay.” 9:09:55 AM 4/26/07 “Did the last contract fall through?” 9:11:56 AM 4/26/07 “Yay! Raining here, still. It's kinda cool in thatwe can see that the work we've done in the yard has started to pay off immediately, only part of the yard floods now. Found a bunny to bring home next week, and will add another in abbout two-three weeks when another litter comes. Wanna see? Whatever doe we get will be blue and be Rosie. The Buck is either blue or black, whichever we choose and has no preselected name; we have to see him first. I'm rooting for "Bucky". last edited: 4/26/07 9:16:11 AM” 9:12:22 AM 4/26/07 “Since you're naming these I assume they're keepers?” 9:26:20 AM 4/26/07 “Yes DH, the last contract fell through. The buyer had some sort of "family emergency" and defaulted on the contract and then proceeded to not return any calls for a couple of weeks (even after we found out the whole issue was over) while we were wondering what was going on.” 9:47:38 AM 4/26/07 “Yes, the last one flaked out and she let it fall through. She owes us 1k now, but it's not worth pursuing the money unfortunately.” 9:48:49 AM 4/26/07 “That sucks.” 9:56:46 AM 4/26/07 “Hope this sale goes off w/o a hitch! RichB, I hope all goes well for you and your recovery is swift. Dayhiker, these will be the pets. last edited: 4/26/07 12:05:45 PM” 12:00:16 PM 4/26/07 “You guys all sleeping in today?! GET UP!” 6:19:24 AM 4/27/07 Hugs. “Good morning. Met Marko yesterday. It was pleasure as he was a very nice guy. He was down here in the area of Melbourne, Florida. We drank some coffee, played some pool (8-ball), visited the Resource Café, where he could use a computer, and had some food at an Irish Restaurant. He did enjoy seeing the shapely waitresses. I was a little worried that he might try to check-out some of them, when we were leaving. And we stopped at a neighborhood Super Market, while sightseeing. So the day was a little different than normal. Have a great Friday.” 6:26:28 AM 4/27/07 “That MarkO is a good egg. Who won the pool?” 6:31:03 AM 4/27/07 “I heard that SlimShady won.” 6:43:36 AM 4/27/07 “Morning! TGIF, for sure! RichB, how did it go yesterday? One more day with the 8th graders. Yesterday was easy, it was Take You Kid to Work day, and there were ~50 kids gone. Nice! Today will be crazy - they're all back in school. I have a date tonight, I'm so excited! That'll keep me going all day. Have a good one, folks!” 6:45:44 AM 4/27/07 “Good Morning all! Hi Sass! Hi Smiley!” 7:01:02 AM 4/27/07 “Good morning, I had my esophagus dilated yesterday and so far it made a big improvement. I have one more dilation to go in 2 weeks, but so far this time it worked and I hope it lasts. More rain again this morning. I'm going fishing tomorrow and I'm hoping the streams aren't too high. I tied up some new dry flies the other night that I want to try.” 7:03:00 AM 4/27/07 “Hi Craig!!! =D Great to see you! How's things?” 7:03:27 AM 4/27/07 “RichB, I'm glad to hear yesterday was a success. I hope it lasts too.” 7:14:29 AM 4/27/07 “Thanks, me too and I'd have to think it should be even better after the next one. I still might need one per year after these three initial ones depending on how long it lasts.” 7:45:46 AM 4/27/07 “Ugh. Laurel's decided to have a "Mad at the World" day today. I haven't heard the end of it since she woke up. It looks like decent weather for the weekend; I'm tempted to get bags of compost, etc. and till in another area of the back yard, to see if I can grow anything.” 9:09:35 AM 4/27/07 “Our weekend is supposed to be gorgeous too. Unfortunately, the yard is sooo saturated I doubt we'll be able to spend much time out there. I think we'll have to take a hike or put the boats in the water.” 9:32:34 AM 4/27/07 “treebait - If you do make the purchase, I suggest you have it delivered. We don't need any more carts rolling over you. last edited: 4/27/07 9:37:25 AM” 9:35:03 AM 4/27/07 “We don't need any more carts rolling over you. agreed” 10:13:05 AM 4/27/07 “No kidding. I guess I'll have HPM do the that part.” 10:40:29 AM 4/27/07 “ “That MarkO is a good egg. Who won the pool?”We both won, since neither of us lost. We were only banging the balls around to kill time and enjoy ourselves. During most of the action we were just talking. You know, trail talk stuff. Seems to me that your ears should have been ringing.” 1:32:40 PM 4/27/07 “ut oh. I wouldn't believe a thing he told you! last edited: 4/27/07 1:49:39 PM” 1:49:03 PM 4/27/07 “that goes for both of them:)” 3:32:29 PM 4/27/07 “Just like pool players never lie, neither do TT'ers!” 4:15:40 PM 4/27/07 “It's gorgeous out! Sun shining through the light green just beginning on trees, birdsong and a great cup of coffee...it's all good....” 7:42:03 AM 4/28/07 “Good morning, it's nice here too, but might be some showers this afternoon. I'm leaving soon to go fly fishing all day. I hope I catch lots of fish or even just a few big ones would be nice.” 7:54:58 AM 4/28/07 “Beautiful day in Lower Alabama sunny...warm...today I drag out all my camping equipment to get ready for my trip to Ohio and a camping trip with my girlfriends to Brushy Lake May 18th...wooo hooooooo..... ..I hope everyone has a GREAT weekend!!!.... hugs” 7:59:24 AM 4/28/07 “Good morning, I'm heading out to fish again after doing well yesterday. Hopefully more sun will be out today so the fly hatches will be a bit better.” 8:30:53 AM 4/29/07 “Good luck. I'm still into creating a garden. I installed the corner posts yesterday and may wait until next weekend to install the others and stretch the fence. This week will be about tilling and getting some manure. If Chappy shows up today, there should be some emanating from his posts:) The riding mower that came with the place had a dead battery and three flat tires. It's now up and running. Three acres to mow so soon after plowing snow. Should have another day in the mid-70's, so I can start hanging laundry from the line. This pretend farmer thing ain't a bad gig. All in all though, fishing sounds pretty good.” 8:56:15 AM 4/29/07 “I will spend the day ramblin aimlesssly and drop small change whenever a gal with a skirt walks by” 9:09:38 AM 4/29/07 “Wooo Hooo..I am almost finished with my packing for my trip to Ohio to visit daughter, and then backpacking with my other daughter in SIPSEY...wooo hoooooo!!! and camping @ Brushy lake....(whipes brow) .....I LOVE gear....yes..I LOVE IT!!~!!!” 10:48:51 AM 4/29/07 “I am attempting to put a poorly molded toolshed together...luckily I am familiar with knifing flash...beautiful day...gonna set up a hammock in the yard and enjoy the day....also, considering a bag night tonight last edited: 4/29/07 11:37:13 AM” 11:36:45 AM 4/29/07 “whipes = wipes :)” 11:55:33 AM 4/29/07 “Good Morning....hot coffee and off to work..I have 3 days left and then I get 4 .....yes.....4 weeks off...wooo hooooooo........I am having a ball packing for my trip......wooo hooooo...... Looks like another sunny day here. No job today. I'm kinda bummed, kinda not. Going to go sign up at another county, might be good for future job opportunities. Will go watch b-ball later today, though G's team probably will get mercied again. Its a tough season, and he's starting to get stressed. Have a good one, folks.” 6:54:12 AM 4/30/07 “Smiley, over 70 teachers retire in Livonia this spring (buy out). Long communte for you though. Good Morning all you wonderful people! Sun is shinning here, so far, high of 66° today. And I don't have a thing I have to do, so I'll probably dig out back. Ever tried driving a shovel with your non-dominate foot? It's surprisingly hard.” 7:22:30 AM 4/30/07 Good Morning All.............. “Spent the weekend down at our place in central Texas (near Austin)..... I took the weekend off to climb back in the woods and read a book "The Last Season" by Eric Blehm......you have GOT to read this book........ Saturday morning, at sunrise I got up and turned on the coffee pot. After I poured a cup I took a walk down the road in front of our 40 acre place across the road from the 'home' place of about 100 acres where I crawl into the woods. After a nice stroll down the road and back I put on my daypack and walked thru the barbwire fence by the gravel driveway. The path across the field of waist-high wet grass was just sufficient (from my bro-in-law driving the tractor back into the back field)to keep from getting my feet too wet. But that changed after I crossed down into the creek and back up to the back field. The grass in those 50 or so acres was tall and wet and to get back to the woods I had to cross it so I stepped slowly on. When I made it to the woods I settled into my old routine of following the game trails: deer, coyote, perhaps a hog or two, rabbits, coon, armadillo, fox.....whatever happened to be on the 'back roads' of the wood. I spent all morning back there. The mesquito started to take delight in me being there so I took off my pack and sat cross-legged like an old indian on my bit of blue pad among the dead leaves and sticks. I cleared an area in front of me and left a small pile of leaves and needles, etc. there and lit them with my bic lighter. After sufficiently 'smoking up' mr. 'squito decided I was too unfriendly and left me alone the rest of the morning. I had a MRE snack while I sat there in the smoke, then packed up, put the small fire out by patting it down and putting all in order with a layer of leaves again.... As I wandered back there I visited old 'friends'....the fox den that was still in the bend of the dry stream, the spot where the honeybee tree once stood (sad thought there) that had fallen down around '89, the washes full of glacier rock turned smooth (I picked up two, one for my Debbie and one for me), old trees now dead and fallen like old men in their undug graves, scattered about with broken arms. It was more of a nostalgia trip than a walk about. I stood and had a conversation with a rusted barbwire fence for a few minutes recounting to him a younger man climbing over him long ago as I ran my hand over his back, hitting the barbs like the segments of a backbone. God, I love that old wood. After a few hours of slowly reaquainting myself with my old friend I stepped back out into the field to the south for the walk back in. I stayed under the shade of the six or seven trees in the field that used to hold an old barbwire fencerow, long missing as William plowed and planted the grasses that now filled the field. Close to the lower end 'three trees up' from the lower wood wherein the creek to the house runs, I spooked up a coyote out of a ditch piled full of old trees and brush. It was one area william couldn't plow because of the wash there. I decided to investigate the coyotes resting spot and discovered a hidden den. Carefully and quietly I listened and heard the pups whimpering lowly. About three I was quessing. Since this den was about 12 yards from the tree, I decided to wait/see if mrs. coyote would come back home. I took off my pack, put down my sitting pad, and leaned against the tree with my head just barely poking over the tall grass. I fell asleep after about 20 minutes. It was so nice and cool there in the shade of the tree. I don't know how much time passed but there was a bunch of racket as william and some helpers (hired) came driving the tractor and sprigger across the creek to load up a trailer with bermuda sprigs to plant a field for someone who hired william for the task. They were still a good 300 yards away in an area that had been cut so the sprigs could be harvested. But the noise woke me and I walked thru the grass to where william and his operation were commencing. His son, an Eagle Scout, was there too so I walked toward him an a hispanic boy with him. They looked at me like "WTF?"..I guess the whole family thinks I'm goofy, spending all my time in the woods...if they only knew. I showed the boys the coyote den and let them listen for a minute before they headed back to the operation at hand and I headed for the house and a shower........and to get on with my new friend, a book titled "The Last Season".......... last edited: 4/30/07 8:55:12 AM” 8:48:58 AM 4/30/07 “...................one other thing.....a week living in the backcountry of the High Sierras....Sept.
