The OR was backed up with emergencies and I spent most of the day waiting around. I'll need 2 more dilations because they can't stretch the esophagus too much at one time or it'll tear, but it seems like this will work. I'm swallowing a little better now so by the time I'm finished it should make a big difference. Sass, to give you a new voice, what they do is insert a silicone tube through a puncture they make between the airway and esophagus called a tracheoesophageal puncture (TEP). Air gets diverted into the esophagus when you want to speak, vibrates the throat to make sound and you form that sound into words with your tongue and mouth like you would normally. There's no way to replace a larnyx once it's gone so it's a good way to speak again, although it could sound a bit deep and raspy. Some kind of a voice is better than nothing, although I can speak now with an artificial larnyx. It's not bad and I can even talk on the phone with it, but has its limitations as far as being heard around background noises and dead batteries, etc. Matahari, swallowing problems are something nobody thinks about until you get them. So far I didn't lose any weight and actually gained a few pounds by using liquid nutrition. All you can do is drink more of the stuff or spend more time eating.
