Good morning. I'm feeling better today and the honey truck should be here sometime to at least drain the water from the tank. If the frozen blockage isn't between the tank and the house, I should have some use for awhile. Meanwhile, it's thaw and dig. Fortunately the Irish are familiar with shovels:) I've always wanted to build a world class outhouse; I am now motivated (nothing like the feel of midnight frost on bare haunches).

Nimble, I've heard there's a sign they use by the road in Ireland to indicate 'Men Working'... but the shovel isn't drawn in an obvious way. It fact, I've heard it refered to as 'Men Having Difficulty With Umbrellas'.

Damn, it's early!
I'm so jacked because of my hiking trip I can't sleep.......so I'm up and fiddling with my pack......total weight, 42 lbs. with all the comforts. It's 48 out which is a bit cool so I'll leave my flannel blanket and take my Kelty Lightyear 25 with me. Yesterday got up to 81 so the days are going to be bomber for the hike, the only 'winter' thing I'll take is my polyester longjohn top, and just shorts for the trip.

Good morning.

The sun just hit my window and the monitor screen. This, too, will change, when we hit Daylight Saving Time in a little over two weeks on March 1111.

It sure is nice to wake up and not be hit immediately with stories about frozen septic systems, flooded basements and car problems. LOL. Just Chappy headed out to tear up the Lone Star Trail. I wonder if he'll stop to fish at his secret pond.

Have a great day. This includes you!

Mostly sunny and breezy with a high of 74°F today... Yes that is Fahrenheit. Wouldn't want you guys to think we were about to boil away down here.

Lake Wind Advisory this afternoon. If I had a drysuit I'd hop on the Hobie Cat! (water's still a bit chilly for the catamaran!)

Oh, I had surgery done yesterday. At least I have some stitches to be removed in a week. A PA in the dermatology department took a sample out of one of my feet. She had numbed the foot first with some kind of shot. I did not watch what she was doing, but I had my eye on her. She was a beautiful girl who looked way too young for her job. I'll have to call her "kid doctor!"

Might be meeting with a chiropractor today or tomorrow for a new job possibly. LOVE the Dr I'm working for now and get treated very well here but only can work 9 hours a week, tops. I need more, Birch needs more too, lol. So, wish me luck.

Nimblefoot, your amazing outhouse project could actually be Scout service-project worthy. Hmmm, the possibilities! I'm sure there's some decent scout troop out there who'd get a kick out of building something like that.

Well the first day out in the field was good. I think it was a corn field...

After two days of class room orientation where they scare the hell out of you and warn you of all the horrors might see it was not very bad. The clients I take care of are in what they call the "welcome home" program. I thought these people were like, being sent home to die but they are mostly newly diagnosed and not in the final stages of dying.

but I am very conflicted. The guy they sent me out with to learn the ropes is completely incompetant to the point he is a detrement. We saw four people today. Two got bed baths and one was taken to the bathroom and this guy didn't put gloves on once. WTF? Each visit is for roughly an hour but this guy is in and out and done sometimes within 20 minutes.

So what am I to do? I know I'm new and I'm gung ho but I'm not Mr. By The book either but this guy has no business working there. The last thing i wanna do is turn this guy in and get him fired my first week in the field but I don't feel like I can just stay silent either. I have no doubt he'd end up hanging himself in time but I'm also very aware of the fact that there are no do overs in Hospice work. We don't get a second chance to get it right.

Do you know if you will be working exclusively with this one guy or will they be having you work with other folks too?

Hopefully you will get to see how more folks work than just this guy. If so then you can figure out the situation pretty quickly.

Maybe you are intended to be that guys replacement. Just a thought. In my current job I was just that. It scared the hell out of me the first couple of weeks. I was thinking "Damn, I have to work with this hack?!?"

I'm scheduled to be with him the rest of this week and all of next week. At the very least I'm going to request a new trainer for at least a portion of my orientation so I can see how someone else does it.

I'm very proud of the company I work for because it is nationally recognized, not for profit yet they deliver twice as much service and care. I had thought about riding it out and then after I'm done pulling someone to the side and telling them they need to look more closely at him.

My second tour of duty in Vietnam was on a hospital ship. As an enlisted Corpsman, my job was scrubbing with the Orthopedic Surgeon and doing all the post-op dressing changes. A staff doctor wanted to change one of the dressings and proceeded without gloves. I advised him that this was not proper and I would report him if he continued. Figuring that all were in awe of his grandeur, he went on his merry way. Being very junior in my profession, I was fairly intimidated about repercussions, but reported him anyway. He was canned on the spot. Sometimes the right thing is the only thing. While a wise person will choose their battles, sometimes the battle chooses you.

So, Nige, is this guy endangering the clients or just himself? I think your idea of asking for a different trainer in week two is wise. Glad the day went well otherwise.

Hi all you backpackers.

Ah, the weekend has finally arrived. My kids have really kept me on my toes this week, and I was pretty darned exhausted from it. Fell asleep at 8PM last night, and I'm feeling pretty good today. :)

Tonight is the teacher's union social (no drinking for me, of course) and tomorrow is G's dad's retirement party (no drinking for me again, of course). Busy weekend, after a busy week.

Looking forward to the snow/sleet storm headed our way, as long as the roads aren't too bad coming back home Sunday. Guess we'll be in no particular hurry, so we can take it easy.

HOpe everyone has a good one!

25F with a "nuisance" snowfall (that's what Bill called it...not enough to plow but enough to make walking treacherous)last night. We're not expecting very much out of this storm...it looks like the real accumulation will be south of us...one TV station says 1-3 inches, the other 3-6....I'm not expecting more than a few inches and that will probably be blown to Lake Michigan.... ..we just have the high winds...so strong they blew one of my birdfeeders off the pole...squirrels will be happy...

Have good day, all....

The much ballyooed (sp?) snow (Lizs) has yet to show up in an amount to cover the ground. Septic system is still frozen, but I'm getting by with plastic bags and a camping potty chair. The gray water (dish water, shower and laundry residue) flows out on the frozen ground. Not much to be done until the thaw. Pretty crappy winter, all in all.
