After two days of class room orientation where they scare the hell out of you and warn you of all the horrors might see it was not very bad. The clients I take care of are in what they call the "welcome home" program. I thought these people were like, being sent home to die but they are mostly newly diagnosed and not in the final stages of dying. but I am very conflicted. The guy they sent me out with to learn the ropes is completely incompetant to the point he is a detrement. We saw four people today. Two got bed baths and one was taken to the bathroom and this guy didn't put gloves on once. WTF? Each visit is for roughly an hour but this guy is in and out and done sometimes within 20 minutes. So what am I to do? I know I'm new and I'm gung ho but I'm not Mr. By The book either but this guy has no business working there. The last thing i wanna do is turn this guy in and get him fired my first week in the field but I don't feel like I can just stay silent either. I have no doubt he'd end up hanging himself in time but I'm also very aware of the fact that there are no do overs in Hospice work.
