Afternoon, friends.

I have a permanent cold - its called pregnancy. I blow more snot and blood clots out of my nose than I ever care to see. Dr. said don't take anything until after the 1st tri. Sleeping sucks! Hopefully the plentiful citrus fruits and the mega vitamins I'm taking stave off any germs I might get.

I subbed in 5th grade today. I was none to happy to go this morning, but the day turned out well. I really don't like the younger ones, not in mass quanities like that. Kids were very well behaved, though, No complaints.

Its snowing here again too. I have no idea if we're supposed to get much.

HPM good luck on the home sale. I've got my fingers crossed!

I just got attitute problems. What can I say, constipation, an 8 pound baby doing pilates in your womb, no sleep, a husband who wants to do what he did to put you in this position even though you look like a beached whale..... I could go on and on. Anyways, it's enough to make a woman crabby.

Yes, enjoy your pregnancy Amy. =D At least you glow, lol.

Good morning...3F here...I am loving this mornings cup of coffee...I'm also making a serious effort to gain weight...it's tough when you have no saliva glands, swallowing is a problem, you are never hungry, food kinda tastes all the same and every swallow brings a risk of aspiration and pneumonia...still, I am now determined! I've lost 7 pounds and I am going to get it back. There are backpacking trips in my future! gr-r-r-r-r LOL...

You guys are giving smiley girl LOTS to look forward to

We've got cha by a factor of ten: 30°F with a 5 mph breeze.

Sounds like you might want to increase the intake of something that I need to cut back on...[G]

If you're addicted to chocolate in any way, I heartily recommend adding one (or two!) heaping teaspoons of Ghirardelli Sweet Ground Chocolate & Cocoa to each and every cup of coffee (and maybe a small slug of real cream).

It is The Ultimate coffee additive, IMO

(Sometimes the grocery store folks hide it with the baking chocolate)

Two nights in a row of good sleep. Today I will be Superman (once I get my coffee). Throwing more firewood today and not sure of what else. I promised to have some sort of a Superbowl get together for the friends who helped me move and get settled on the farm, so maybe I ought to clean the place a bit (get rid of the empties).

Hope your nose is doing well, SG. Don't want you scaring the bejesus out of those kids;)

HPM and Treebait, I hope you've got your favorite pen all ready. Congratulations on the new house!! Will you be moving permanently to NC now? Have the Koi survived the move yet?

I'm not doing anything today. I think there's a top chef marathon on Bravo....that'll be it.

Tilt, I adore ghiradelli cocoa. I get the baking kind and sweeten it myself though (make it with milk too). It's divine.

The koi are still in Florida Sass. Appareantly moving them is relatively easy. Just stick 'em in a bag 1/3 full with water, remove all the air and refill with oxygen, then wrap another bag around it and they're good for 55 hours. Repeat that 10 times or so....

Today is very , very busy, I have to wash a whole lotta stuff (like sheets, towels et al since we have no laundry stuff at the new house) and spend the afternoon and evening moving as much stuff from the apt. to the house as possible. Tomorrow's supposed to stay right around freezing, with snow/ ice/ freezing rain predicted. Joy.

Of course since it's a new house and we also have no blinds or curtains anywhere!

We had a woodstove in the basement when we lived in Vermont.

Humpin' all that firewood made me dumb as ox.

Our stove was a Vermont Castings Vigilant in gray enamel.

I'm tempted to do that Sass, but I can also just take my window measurements to Lowes and they have a machine to cut the blinds to your specifications right there.

Dayhiker, I'm very picky about house layout and construction. After seeing some of the shenanigans going on around our development, I'm glad we built, just so I can keep an eye on every step of the process and get anything I wasn't satisfied with corrected. My biggest problems actually have nothing to do with the builder, but with NC building codes, which I think are behind the curve.

I will wind up designing the floor system and the basement walls. They'll think I'm over doing it, but I've seen too much crap over the years. I'll also insist on these novel little clips that cost about $0.75 each called hurricane clips. You might have run into them on the coast. Guess what, the wind blows here too, but you'd never know it with the way folks build. Oh yeah, brick ties are sorta important too. I'm not really going to be picky, but will tell him up front what I want so he can price it. When I visit the job, these items will be installed or they'll remove and replace at their cost.

Dayhiker, I'm from Florida. We built the house we're selling down there, and I'm quite familiar with hurricane clips and straps. I think they make a house less creaky. I believe they should be a nation wide requirement for new house construction.

Building to code underwhelms me.
Code is lowest common denominator. That's just not good enough for me.

For sure, Sass. One combination that's particularly evil is a large hot chocolate made with cocoa ALONE... Then use it to wash down the glazed doughnut of your choice.

You guys are so high tech. I put the degree symbol in with copy&paste!

That's what our stove looks like MarkO, except it doesn't have glass and it's cast iron. So far I haven't lost any intellegence but I've gained a bit of strength. Saved alot of money on the gas bill too. Ours has consistantly been around $60 all year round. The toilet seat is very cold though.

Tilt, I can't tell you the last time I had a donut! If I'm having one it's going to be a huge eclair or an apple fritter...yum. The hot cocoa alone is treat enough. I need a new canister of cocoa. Right now I've got enough for about one cuppa, then I'll have to resort to Swiss Miss. Oh the humanity!

Hmmm, maybe it was "strong as ox".

I worked at the factory and got a special deal on that stove.
It weighs about 350# and when we built the house I put a 40 inch on our walk-in basement just to make it easier to bring in the stove.

Ah, the days of cold toilet seats!
Back in them days we had little boys runnin' around in mukluks trackin' lots of dirt into the house.

Hey Tilt, I think it's Swiss Miss that has a dark chocolate hot cocoa mix that's quite tasty. It's the one with the "bioflavinoids" on the label.

I can't stand nestle quik. It's not Laurel's favorite either. She now prefers the Instant breakfast, either the dark chocolate or the vanilla. However, she will drink just about any flavor of it.

Sass - I don't know what kind of stove it is. Just some generic thing from Menards costing around $600. It was all I can afford at the moment. I'm getting the propane furnace, all venting, ductwork, thermostats and woodstove hooked into ductwork, installation and 10 year parts & labor warranty for just under 3k. It won't take long to recoup the costs considering the length of winter in these parts. Cutting wood will give me some much needed structure and free exercise:)

Those stoves are a bit pricey aren't they? That's why we have one that was made in 1977, lol. It's fairly easy to find them used around here though. Folks in the city don't like manual work much.
I wish ours was tied into our duct work. We don't have a basement so it woulda been next to impossible.

Morning.

G bought me peppermint tea, so we're gonna try it in hot coco tonight. Its a bit much all on its own. Maybe we need some donuts to go with it. :)

Tree, I HATE moving. Its so much darned work. HOpe it goes smoothly for you!

No work again today, but this is my last day of pure laziness. Tomorrow starts the long-term job, hopefully I won't hurt any of my lovely 7th graders. This teacher runs a more relaxed classroom than I did, and honestly, it drives me nuts. Kids will have to learn to step up their behavior just a bit. AT least they know me, and how much crap I'll put up with. :)

I'm on the couch with the kitties, and they are twitching away in their slumber. I love it when they do that!

Have a great day everyone, stay warm!
