Killed some time on the computer and then went on my bicycle for coffee at the Resourse Cafe. Forgot it was Saturday and they are closed for the weekend. Then I went and had the carpet removed from my head and all the hair trimmed from my face so that I can shave. Even went to Walmart so that I could swear at not finding things. But after years they have returned to selling Coghlan's Fire Sticks. They discontinued them 5-8 years ago and have sold nothing but crap as replacements until now. Nimblefoot - You're right. "Life is good." cyndeee and nowslimmer take on Cumberland Island Enjoy your weekend. last edited: 1/20/07 9:21:30 AM” 9:19:01 AM 1/20/07 “you got that backerdz Nimblefeetz.. "it...stop"” 9:21:38 AM 1/20/07 “MORNING!!” 4:41:34 AM 1/21/07 “Good evening -- hey, that's not the moon out there, is it?” 6:20:36 AM 1/21/07 “Movin' fast this morning. Coffee's at my side, bacon cooked and potatoes sputtering in the pan. Gotta meet some guys and cut some dead and fallen trees for firewood. Should be fun. Later.” 7:19:28 AM 1/21/07 “Yep, Morning! How's your workplace responding to you turning your telephone off on hikes, mountainrummer? It warmed up substancially last night and is not 18 degrees...the house is much more comfortable than it was this time yesterday...we have no basement so when it's in the teens you can keep pop chilled by just leaving it on the kitchen floor. I was given a pair of thick, wool rag socks last fall by a fellow backpacker. I have lived in those socks this winter. We might get a dusting of snow today but most of the accumulation will be south of us. This is a lazy week-end...nice...have a good day!” 7:26:02 AM 1/21/07 “Good morning all....stop. It's 44 outside and STILL RAINING! When will this rain stop? I want dry and sunny. Time to go next door to the fellowship hall and get the coffee going for all the early churchers......have a nice day all. Visit a church today and put a penny in the coffers for the poor.” 7:29:19 AM 1/21/07 “afternoon, friends! we are church slackers once again. i'm frustrated that we can't find a church we like, so we tend not to go anywhere. we LOVED the church we got married in, but its an hour away. too far to go on a Sunday, plus ya can't get involved in any other activities when you're so far away! we're supposed to get 1-2 inches of snow today. its kinda spitting now. G had to go up to the school to do batting practice with the kids, so i'm home alone, trying to get motivated to do something. :)” 11:56:32 AM 1/21/07 “It's almost 4 pm, can I go back to bed now?” 2:50:47 PM 1/21/07 “Eaining here too. Cold, wet, 65 degrees. Birrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr” 4:30:20 PM 1/21/07 “Gooooood Morning Campers! It's a dark and murky 38°F in the lovely Central Savannah River Area. The drizzle is taking a break at the moment and sunrise is still about an hour away. And Hey, it's MONDAY... Woooo Hoooo!” 5:38:42 AM 1/22/07 “PS — caffeeeeeeeeeeine!” 5:48:00 AM 1/22/07 “6:37 and still dark, dog is out for her morning pee and I'm waiting for the lovely chirp-chirp of the finished coffee. Headed to the doc for my final postop back check today. I hope he says it's fine since I split and loaded a lot of firewood yesterday:) It looks to be an interesting day; still hoping to figure how to get that old ford truck running. Peace.” 6:39:58 AM 1/22/07 “Hope you get the all clear from your doc even if it will be kinda after the fact with all the firewood activity lately... ![]() 20F this morning...we got a 1/2 inch of snow yesterday...feelin' good...think I sold my 4-season tent which kinda will justify my purchase yesterday of the new one: http://www.rei.com/product/47982682.htm” 6:57:53 AM 1/22/07 “It'll be 75 here today. Ugh, way too warm, and the mosquitoes and biting gnats will be out. At least there's another front coming through this afternoon. The has become a big seesaw. I had very weird dreams last night; while not all aspects were pleasant, I at least proved myself in them. I had to work to keep a duel between 2 people as close to honest and even as possible.” 7:13:33 AM 1/22/07 “Slept like a very tired person last night. We got some snow, everything is white. Supposed to have a few flakes around all week. I think winter has finally arrived! I am going to try and get an xray today. I took a strike directly to my heel by the end of a 2 1/2 - 3 foot long log this weekend (had my crocs on too so there was no protection). The log was thrown from about 12 feet away. The heel is dark purple and tight but I rolled my foot trying to get out of the way and I think I may have broke it (thankful it was just a 1/2 mile hike out). It may be some tendonitis or a torn/stretched ligament. After having surgery for not doing anything for a broken tiny toe I'll take the xrays every time now just to be sure. I really hope it's nothing but bruises. Nice looking tent Matahari!” 7:28:30 AM 1/22/07 Yeah, I'm late............... “42 here, clear.....CLEAR! YEAH, FINALLY..... Man, do I wanna go camping/hiking/biking......alas, duty calls though and this is one busy week.....but got a trip planned for next month...2 nights out on the Lone Star Trail with a couple guys: Rocketman (see my Ouachita pics) and a P.A. who was our fam. doctor till he moved off but still lives close. He's from NY and an old backpacker himself, so he's excited to get back into it. Now, how bout a trail name for him?........wanna help? hehe. I was thinkin either "Doc" or "Prybar".....” 7:46:09 AM 1/22/07 “Shoot Sass, now I'm scared! 3 weeks ago my little toe met Bill's brace and has ached ever since...as long as I don't wear tight shoes it doesn't bother me too much and ibuprophen stops the aching...I figured I just sprained it but now you've got me wondering if I did more...what happened to your little toe? Hope nothing is broken around your heel...that must have really, REALLY hurt! chappy, how about combining the 2 names and calling him prydoc? or docPrybar?” 8:27:39 AM 1/22/07 “Ow, Sass. I hope you don't wind up on the Injured Reserve thread. Dueling? Kindof quaint and gruesome at the same time --- Hey Chappy, was he a GP or a specialist? For example, if he was an orthopedist you could call him 'Sawbones'.” 8:36:22 AM 1/22/07 “Sass: "supposed to have a few flakes around all week" So, NS, Chappy and Tilt are visiting? Sorry about your injury, I'll bet you heal quick though.” 8:52:28 AM 1/22/07 “HAHA! Flakes...good one. I hope it's just bruised, Sass! Owie.” 9:03:01 AM 1/22/07 “I'm hoping it's nothing but bruises. I'll find out for sure around 2:00. Mata, two years ago I kicked a door jamb on accident, running around the house barefoot, and broke my pinkie toe. I didn't do anything about it because it was just my pinky toe. It healed, made a big pea sized lump of bone in a place that it shouldn't have, which caused deep ulcers between my metatarsals 3X. Eventually, after they came back the third time my podiatrist removed the offending lump of bone and all has been well since. But, all that stuff took approximately 4 monthes of podiatrist visits and medication, etc. So now I go and get x-rayed and make sure there isn't anything that the Dr. needs to do. lol @ Nimblefoot! Are Tilt, Nowslimmer and Chappy going to stand for such abuse?!” 9:06:27 AM 1/22/07 “Morning, all. Still no work here for me, but I am working Wed, Thur, and Friday this week. The lady I'll be in for on maternity leave isn't sure she'll be around next week, so that long-term job may start sooner than I thought! We got more snow here last night too, another 1-2 inches. Living in the UP for several years, 1-2 inches is just a dusting to me. Not worth even thinking about shoveling. I want more snow!!!” 9:08:05 AM 1/22/07 “I knew you were hurt way worse than you were letting on. I hope it all works out. I felt awful about the whole thing.” 9:13:38 AM 1/22/07 “dayhiker, Did you forget something last night? Report immediately to the RRG Home Safe thread :-) Sass, I hope it turns out to be just a bruise. Will put positive thoughts out there on the karmanet.” 9:17:20 AM 1/22/07 “Okay, I'm cranking up my posi-generator.” 9:20:41 AM 1/22/07 9:37:07 AM 1/22/07 “I thought you'd be more upset about being affiliated with Chappy and NS.” 9:39:43 AM 1/22/07 “I shal endeavour to persevere.” 9:42:10 AM 1/22/07 “me too.... :p” 2:16:19 PM 1/22/07 “Kudos -- I've also been referred to as the Zomby Woof, but that's neither here nor there.” 2:28:24 PM 1/22/07 “Where is my rolled up newspaper? Bad dayhiker, BAD!!!! ;-) dayhiker has this thing about him and logs. Sorry Sass.” 2:34:04 PM 1/22/07 “What did I do? I didn't throw the log. Stumpchucker did. Sass should be back from the doc by now. I sure would like to hear an update.” 2:36:01 PM 1/22/07 “Logs tend to chase after dayhiker while he's sitting around the fire sippin'.” 2:39:26 PM 1/22/07 “Ya want me to call her?? I'm sure she'll be happy to know we're all thinking about her!” 2:41:18 PM 1/22/07 “*Stumpchucker* threw the log? Yer kiddin.” 2:41:59 PM 1/22/07 “Sure thing SG.” 2:44:08 PM 1/22/07 “"Stumpchucker" threw the log in great style thus gaining a trailname. Twirling like an Olympic shotputter. Famous last words from birch before log release... "this could be bad" Dayhiker was in no way involved with the log. He was drying off from his earlier but no less spectacular fall into the creek. Oh pardon my ommission, two falls into the creek :-) Sorry dayhiker - I couldn't help myself” 3:00:32 PM 1/22/07 “;-)” 3:09:27 PM 1/22/07 “No answer in the Sassafras household.” 3:13:58 PM 1/22/07 “My wife was mildly chuckling when I told her about the first fall into the water. The air temp was around 30*. She had tears in her eyes when I told her about the 2nd slip. When I told her I threw a rock into the pool below Rock Bridge arch to make dhutch think I'd fallen she gave me a scowl. I thought it was funny. PS, thanks for checking SG. I started to call her cell but figured she might still be dealing with the doc. I didn't want it to be a, "Hey, I met you last weekend and now I'm stalking you" sort of thing. last edited: 1/22/07 3:21:55 PM” 3:20:51 PM 1/22/07 “Sass would never think that. Yeah! you scared me with that rock! :-) I already like your wife.” 3:27:04 PM 1/22/07 65F is cold, he says... “Was 28F here this morning ...and raining. Not a pretty scene.” 3:42:37 PM 1/22/07 “No breaks evident on the film. =) Doc thinks it's torn or stretched ligaments, or possibly a stress fracture at the cuboid and 4-5 metatarsal heads. No biggie. He prescribed rest and ice x4 a day, and an MRI only if it doesn't feel better by next week (and only that soon because of my plans for a big trip in March...no time to waste). It already feels better though. It was just really rough after the hike out and when I got up this morning. Felt better after I worked and moved it about a bit. I feel infinitely better now that I know it's not broken. I think I'll survive. Stovestomper, it was in no way Dayhiker's fault; he wasn't anywhere near the flying log. It really wasn't any one's fault. I could've gotten out of the way if I'd been on my toes. It was just an accident. I think really the only fair thing to do is call it an act of Southern aggression on poor ole' little Northern me. ;) I demand restitution in the form of Tipsy Fudge cakes, fried chicken and Jack Daniels! Biscuits too. Thanks for caring guys. Now I have a load of leafy, smokey, damp hiking clothes to wash. See ya tomorrow!” 3:43:48 PM 1/22/07 “Well Sass, they say the south is gonna rise again. I figured it was just going to hit the snooze button and fall back asleep. Get better soon. last edited: 1/22/07 3:46:35 PM” 3:46:16 PM 1/22/07 “Dang that sounds painful Sass. I kept reading that as "Jack Daniels Biscuits." That doesn't sound too bad.” 3:51:14 PM 1/22/07 “What, no grits too? Glad there were no breaks. Speaking of fudge, here's the website to that monastery I mentioned that has the killer fudge: http://www.gethsemanifarms.org/fudge.asp” 3:51:51 PM 1/22/07 “Great news Sass! I would have hated to of had to open a can of whoopa$$ on my buddy. ;-)” 6:09:37 PM 1/22/07 Jump to Page << prev
