My mother is back and safe in Stoughton and I am still alive. I'm going to take Freckles (my dogs' new name) for an extra long walk today. She had to endure a 600 mile ride yesterday, so today she gets to run (and I need the walk). My cat (Fraidy) is sort of out of hiding. She now owns the upstairs except for the time when I'm working out. She appears rather secure as long as Freckles is downstairs. Damn, it's like living at home with my five brothers. Have the day of your choosing. Feel better, Chapster.” 9:18:53 AM 1/11/07 “Same dog, different name........” 9:27:56 AM 1/11/07 “Yup, Hillary as a name had to go. Whenever the damn mutt is on a leash, she's always trying to pull me to the right;)” 9:30:38 AM 1/11/07 “Freckles is the cutest name ever!” 9:45:56 AM 1/11/07 “Oh brother!!” 9:52:37 AM 1/11/07 “I figured you'd named it Hillary so that, oh nevermind. last edited: 1/11/07 9:53:08 AM” 9:52:53 AM 1/11/07 “Very funny, dayhiker!! :-P” 9:53:38 AM 1/11/07 “Sir Edmund Hillary, remember?” 10:05:58 AM 1/11/07 “ "Whenever the damn mutt is on a leash, she's always trying to pull me to the right;)"Perhaps the dog is trying to keep you straight in the center, since it knows that you drift to the left!” 12:04:13 PM 1/11/07 “I was going more along the lines of having b!tch and Hillary in the same sentance.” 12:55:03 PM 1/11/07 “Yup, I saw it coming:)” 1:52:46 PM 1/11/07 “Okay, it's morning and time to get moving. The weather looks to be a little dicey today, with the ice storm headed this way. There's a few preparations to make, moving the tractor from the pole barn to the garage and the truck inside as well. I hate it when these things happen and I'm not prepared, especially when I'm just being lazy. Hope everyone's going to be safe.” 6:32:21 AM 1/12/07 Morning Nimblefoot “Sounds like your gettin ready for another ice age....also sounds like 'fun' work, the kind you don't mind doing. Have a good day, stay warm, and get out the ice axe......” 6:52:03 AM 1/12/07 “Hip-happy Friday to all, especially our friends heading to Pictured Rocks. Gonna be cold here, brrrrrrrrr!” 7:10:32 AM 1/12/07 Yawn. “Good morning! Hooray for Friday! -2 in "Near Perfect, Near Nature" Spokane. Heading for a big high of 11. I am on call, so it is a weekend of chores and football for me.” 7:32:27 AM 1/12/07 “Ugggggggggggggg Need coffee” 7:49:48 AM 1/12/07 “In addition to tackling the pond plumbing today, something went and dug up every potted plant on my back porch. I have 2 open houses this weekend, I don't need more cleaning and repairing to do!” 8:02:19 AM 1/12/07 “Upper 40's this morning. Why did I wear a long sleeve shirt today. Not a good choice.” 8:05:12 AM 1/12/07 “High of 74 today. I think I'll take the afternoon off and work on the house.” 8:45:17 AM 1/12/07 Hugs. “Good morning. It's another beautiful day in Melbourne, Florida. T-shirt weather again as the sun just popped out from behind a cloud bank. Our second cold spell of the winter lasted only one day and was gone before most folks knew it was here. An airport construction crew has spent the week tearing out one structure at the south end of this strip that they want to beautiful. Also, they took out three of four concrete strips that previously were under trailers. These guys must be in a union. They had all kinds of heavy equipment with them and the one structure(a double) already had been stripped of all windows, doors and roofs. The contract crews, that worked after the hurricanes, would have been finished in two to three hours. I'm getting very aggravated by what is not going on with regard to my forced move. I have nothing in writing, no rules or realistic guidelines to go by, no time-frame, and have had two mis-communicatins with the temporary Park Manager. In addition I have been insulted. The manager said that any place I find will be an upgrade! This is not true. I can point out several blocks of places that would be a downgrade! Well, I hope all of you have a most enjoyable weekend. I hope to see lots of you on the trails this year.” 8:59:01 AM 1/12/07 Good news I don\'t have to move! “I don't have to move! Following my latest breakout from dacron, which added to a fungus problem, I was not feeling good today. I did go to the pool hall, but did not stay long. At home I popped a couple of White Castle hamburgers in the micro wave, and after eating, I went back to bed. Last night my daughter was here. She had felt my forehead and declared that I had a fever. After about three hours I got up and turned on the computer. I had one wrong number call on the telephone. It must have been dialed or punched by a young child. Then I received a call from the secretary at a Dermatologists' office. The earliest appointment they would give me was on February 21st. I returned to the computer and someone walked up to the door and called me. I knew who it was, but I asked anyway. It was the temporary manager of the Trailer Park. As I started to the Florida Room and on to the door, I asked, "Do you have an appointment?" (I am not happy about the way this situation has been conducted.) She replied, "No, but I have some information for you. You don't have to move! The airport has dropped their plans." We continued to converse. I inquired if this was a permanent decision. She said, "Yes." I asked, "Can I have that in writing?" She said "No." I said, "You will be getting a bill for my househunting." She said, "No! You didn't do any househunting!" I said, "Yes I did! You told me to get a list of available places and to look for a comparable place. I gave you a list of three places." I learned that they have dropped plans, for now, for double wide trailers across the street. So I will still have the open view, too. What may have turned the situation was my previous request to have everything in writing. We had two major mis-communications. I decidexd to play it wiser for everything in writing. This may have frightened them. She said it was dropped because of things that my neighbor and I had said that she had relayed to the Airport Authority, which is responsible for the trailer park.” 3:46:00 PM 1/12/07 “Good for you, Paul, now go scratch your itch;)” 3:54:20 PM 1/12/07 Good Morning.......Early...... “I can't sleep......its 5:somethin and I got up at 4:40 and can't get back to sleep so I'm up now.. No rain yet but the ice/sleet is slowly trying to creep this way...I don't think it will make it. A hot cup of tea to clear my head up is helping with this crud, and I'll go wake my wife up later....a lot later.......Oh, it is 70 degrees here, and a bit cloudy but I can't tell.......” 5:26:29 AM 1/13/07 “Great news, NS --- Dawn is breaking up here on the Fall Line (at least the sludge in the sky is brightening).” 6:18:28 AM 1/13/07 “-2 this morning. First below zero day of the year. Freckles is outside making yellow snow and I'm waiting for the coffee to finish. A major day in Get up history; Nowslimmer triumphs over corporate evil, Chappy seems to be feeling better and Tilt visits from another galaxy:) Gotta get movin'” 7:11:16 AM 1/13/07 “second cup of tea, but the ol snozolla is still runnin........at least it's gettin lighter outside.....I can see the back yard now....Bob (the fish) is dartin around after a bit of food, Beaker (the bird) is movin around his cage and eatin breakfast....and my wife.....well, she's hangin in the bed.....hmmmm, don't mind that too much... ;p” 7:16:04 AM 1/13/07 “The temp has gone from 70 to 67 in the last half hour.....I wonder......” 7:27:03 AM 1/13/07 “Good morning! Yesterday Abby spent the better part of the day railing against other states who have used up all the snow clouds. I'm not sure how she came up with the concept but I'm every bit as disappointed we still have no snow as she is. I want to go sledding too! Had cellulose blown in to the three outside walls of the original part of the house yesterday. It's warmer, quieter. I wonder why we waited so long to have this done?! The entire house got up to 74° yesterday, by woodstove heat. I think I may need to start dressing lighter. Work this morning and then nothing but putzing around. Maybe we'll go out and get some birthday invitations. We decided to crack and let the kid have a birthday party for her little girlfriends this year. Should be fun (Birch has already committed to work the day that we'll have it....smart man). So, my new Horse Thief sleeping bag with Left zip is almost here. As soon as it arrives I have to send it back. I traded it for new paneling and floor in the laundry room. I think I'll check it out at the store first and see if it's all I ever dreamed it would be first. I've been drooling over one of these bags for two years now. My laundry room will get alot more use though. Have an excellent Saturday...Nimblefoot stay warm (any snow up there?), Nowslimmer, celebrate, YOU WON! and Chappy feel better!” 7:28:16 AM 1/13/07 “Sass - only a dusting of snow. Just enough to make dog prints in the yard (once I put my dog booties on). Question: Is wood your only heat source? Do you have a primary and the wood is a backup. I've got a guy coming in today to give me a bid on a propane furnace, but I really would rather have wood. Many seem to think that just a plain pot bellied stove on the main floor is all I need. Others (people who sell propane) say that the pipes in my basement will freeze without heat down there. The counter argument is that the wood stove will take care of that as well. Do you and Birch have any opinions?” 7:57:31 AM 1/13/07 From sassafras “First appointment cancelled when I was 1/2 a mile away from the office, sigh. Oh well, an extra 1/2 hour of quiet. Nimblefoot, we have a natural gas furnace but keep it set at 55°, except at night when we hike it up to 65°. It rarely turns on. We have a Vermont castings Vigilant. It's from 1977 and blasts the heat. It has a maze of cast iron the smoke has to travel through to make it up the chimney, retaining more heat in the stove. It's very cleverly designed. We can even cook ontop of it if we want. It loads from the top or front and was cheap as we bought it used. For as small as it is (about 3x2.5 I'd guess) it heats our 1256 square foot house well (it's supposed it heat up to 2500). Even better now that the front of the house is insullated! It's work to keep the wood rack filled and the stove fed. Not sure the system wpuld work so well if we both worked away from the house all day. We don't have a basement, just a three foot crawl, uninsulated, (which is incredibly warm from the stove...last time it 15° here Joe crawled into the crawl sapce to make sure all was ok...it was 40° in there!), and we're also in a warmer place than you (thank you Detroit), so I can't say what your pipes might do. maybe ask more locals and perhaps inquire at a store that sells the things in your area. last edited: 1/13/07 8:27:12 AM” 8:23:45 AM 1/13/07 “... and Tilt visits from another galaxy:) Not quite that far out... I just caught a lift in from the Oort Cloud (aHem). BTW, if the weather is getting between you and Comet McNaught like it is for me, you can still see it at the SOHO website (SOlar & Heliospheric Observatory). It's not quite your standard view, but what the heck. AND there are some slick pics at the Sky & Telescope website.” 8:42:38 AM 1/13/07 Hugs. “Good morning. I've been on and off the computer for a couple of hours. A few minutes ago the sun broke through some cloud banks. So I'm going to refill my coffee cup and sit outside on my bench and enjoy the view as things warm. Have a wonderful weekend.” 8:50:57 AM 1/13/07 “Good news NS! -1 here, dawn breaking over the Palouse hills. 2 cats, dog and son up, wife hanging in bed like yours, chappy. Tilt! Where ya been? Did you fall over?” 8:59:58 AM 1/13/07 “Long story... computer gave up the ghost a while back... and then the furnace! The furnace replacement trumped the computer, needless to say. Then I got a job where they frowned on runaway internet use (imagine that)... but I have escaped from that place and I've got a new electrical anti-god device here (courtesy of the nice folks at Dell).” 9:24:51 AM 1/13/07 “If it's anti-God does that mean it's pro-Satan, or is there actually a middle ground?” 9:27:28 AM 1/13/07 “This remains an open question, but prior experience suggests satanic influence is not out of the question. Bill Gates made one heck of a deal with the devil... LOL” 5:54:32 PM 1/13/07 “I have too, but posting on TT is how he collects.” 5:56:07 PM 1/13/07 “odd, my machine seems equal God/Anti-God, depends on where I point it.” 5:59:10 PM 1/13/07 “I'm going to exorcise this one regularly with Norton!” 6:09:36 PM 1/13/07 “I gave up on McAfee, salesman sold me on Kaspersky. Seems good so far. McAfee sucked, made the machine run sooooo slow.” 6:12:26 PM 1/13/07 “Like a psychotic on too much Haldol? That last computer got the HAL9000 treatment in the end. "Daisy, Daisy..."” 6:22:29 PM 1/13/07 “Did you just unplug it or did you suck its brain out first?” 6:24:33 PM 1/13/07 “Evening, everyone. Just catching up on stuff here. I'm still in Florida, G flew in today (and dodged the ice storm in MI), and I'm not feeling well lately. Trying to get my mommy to take care of me! Might go check out Myakka State Park. Think I said that 3 years ago, when we were here last (or was it 4?). Had dinner at some hole-in-the-wall joint on the river. My parents have found interesting places here! Goodnight, all, catch you another day.” 6:49:59 PM 1/13/07 “night smiley...hope you feel better soon.” 6:53:45 PM 1/13/07 “Well, the storms are rollin in here in East Texas. BOOM......thunder too. It's going to rain like hell now and get cold tonight. Lookin forward to a good nights sleep, but this crud is crummy. See yall manana.....” 8:02:03 PM 1/13/07 “Get better, dude.” 9:16:48 PM 1/13/07 Hugs. “Good morlning. Glad to learn that you're out there on the trail It's such a beautiful day. Hope you enjoy it.” 9:59:10 AM 1/14/07 “Got another open going on today. I'm hanging out at my mom's house while it's going on. Somebody buy my house, dangit!” 12:30:35 PM 1/14/07 Strange..... “It's warmer in Pittsburgh, Pa. than in Diboll, (S.E.)Texas......... It's 37 here and raining with colder temps at the front door and knocking harder with each passing hour. My wife slumbers whilst I quaff hot tea in the luxury of new born pensiveness............ But, all manner of waxing aside, I love the dark early morning stillness........ last edited: 1/15/07 6:34:02 AM” 6:31:41 AM 1/15/07 “That's Texas for you Chappy. In 1980 we moved from Houston to Dallas, the great Texas Heat Wave. Ninety straight days over 100 in Dallas. Houston was so hot people were getting heat exhaustion in their swimming pools. The only rain we saw that summer was in New Mexico. The year we left Dallas, 30 straight days below 10. Water pipes bursting all over the DFW area. In spite of this, many consider Texas to be the greatest nation... oops, I meant state, on earth. ;-D” 7:19:44 AM 1/15/07 Jump to Page << prev
