Morning
Running up to Lassen with a bud to do a full moon hike up Eagle Peak or Ski Heil.

OK, it's not morning and the full moon was last night. I had to go into work today so I'm a little off.

I'm sleeping in tomorrow though.

What a beautiful weekend!

Did all kindsa things Saturday -- including catching an out-of-town mechanic Saturday around 5:30 to put some spark plug wires on the chug-chug-sputtering Jeep on the big hills by the Mississippi.

Also hiked back in to see the Marnach House, a Luxemburger pioneer home, just north of Whitewater State Park (and finding a geocache there)... and checked my photos in a photo contest display in an area town. Will see how that went this week...

Three of us camped out at the Krueger Rec Area campground in the Richard J. Dorer Forest -- just west of Wabasha (Think "Grumpy Old Men" and you have the right town/area). It was sooo warm I had half the rain fly off the mesh tent to watch the almost full moon and stars as I'd awaken throughout the evening. Simply gorgeous!! And my warm weather bag was plenty good enough. Temp only down to 56!

Joined by a fourth for a good hike and a scenic overlook for all our hiking uphill work. It was a grand overlook of the Zumbro River valley and a little peek to the Mississippi. And being dive-bombed and bitten by the bast**d Asian Beetles!!! LOL!

Then off to eat a late lunch at the former cheese factory/now deli, sandwich, wine and pizza place in Nelson, WI, just over the river. It was mobbed with leaf-lookers.

Great weekend. But now getting cold!! Supposed to be in the mid- to high-20s overnight by Wednesday, with maybe very light snow! BRRR!!!!!

Good morning, lizs and all...yep, it was a lovely week-end, temperature-wise, but the wind had stripped the trees of most of their so we are way past peak...and now our first hard frost at the end of the week....I hate the thought of losing all my fresh herbs...I simply have no room to bring any of them inside; that and the fact that to grow anything inside this far north, you need grow lights as we just don't get enough light up here...

I don't like it when all the leaves are off the trees and it's cold and wet...

Mataharihiker, I agree about the herbs. It's so nice t go out back and snip what I need. I dry many of them for use through the winter. I hang the entire stem from a hanger and cover it with a pillowcase (to keep the dust off). They dry really nicely that way, then get stored in a ziplock. My basil tasts better than the tiny ittle flakes bought at the grocery.

It was a gorgeous weekend! The spook train was a hit, almost finshed painting my barn and the sun is still shining.

Lizs, your weekend sounded great! I sure do wish the USA was just a tiny bit smaller....say Europe's size, so we could all zip around to do trips w/ eachother easier.

Good morning. It's another beautiful day here in Melbourne, Florida.

I woke up a little early. So I turned on the TV and ended up watching a movie entitled something like, "Call me Tammy." Sandra Dee played Tammy, a river girl who went to college. She looked much too old to be a young, college girl. As a special student she took two courses, one of which was speaking.. They never included anything about the second course in the film. I heard the six A.M. flight leaving the nearby Melbourne Airport, on time! It usually leaves about ten to twenty minutes late and occasionally, later. Shortly after that I heard my neighbor leave for work. Several times I had to turn the volume higher on the TV as the outside noise level increased. Some of the noise comes from the airport, while most of it is the increase in traffic noise and trains going through the city. The worse is the noise of beepers from vehicles as they back-up. I thought about how nice it would be if such noises could be canceled or limited to a distance. I believe noise can be limited by the emission of opposing sound waves, but I have not discovered a way to limit the range of the noise.

By 6:30 the morning light was chasing the darkness away. The film ended at 7:00 and I got up. The temperature was 62 °F. and felt a little chilly. The report for Bryson City is 53.1 °F. How am I going to exist for the next month in the mountains, where I may even experience snow? It seems foolish to leave Florida as it enters the best part of the year, weatherwise. Wow! I tried to check the tropical weather at Wunderground and they have gone wild with pop-up and mouse-over ads. The sun appeared at 7:19 and is now quite bright. I'm going over to the trailer park's "Resource Cafe" for some free coffee and donuts, a place where I can read the comics in the free newspapers.

Have a great day.

It's October, Chappy. The weiner's using his Halloween handle, so to speak.

I'm definitely loving the weather right now. The cool weather's here a little early. 60 degrees outside, and a high of 78. Of course tomorrow and thursday are predicted to be 88, but then it goes back down to a high of 70. I haven't worn jeans since early April here. Happy happy.

Hi all!

Thought I'd sneak in while my kids are taking one of those state-mandated assessments. They're quiet, but its still a busy day here!

I had yesterday off for Columbus day - it was nice to have a break. Tried to catch up on the laundry - among unpacking more boxes. We can't find the checks, so I'm not sure how we're going to pay bills at the moment. Good times...good times.

Hope everyone here is well!

Are there any good ones for helping you fall asleep at night.

Most just make me wired so I can't sleep.

Chamomile, valerian (if you can get past the taste)catnip, anise, dandelion, linden, hawthorn, hops, orange, passiflower, primrose, skullcap, rosemary, marjoram, birch. That's off the top of my head. I already packed up my herbalist books.

SG, it may be easier to set up online bill paying and banking accounts than finding the checks. Cashiers checks are a good choice too. Good luck with the hunt!

I finished painting that damn barn just in time for winter apparently. Now I have to try and catch my dumb fish. If they knew what they were in for they'd swim right into the net. If I don't get them soon they'll be frozen fish nuggets before January. =)

GGGGS, I use valerian every night. Sure, it stinks, but once the pills are swallowed, its nighty-night time. Take it consistently, and it works better. Helps me stay asleep through the night.

Still MEAP testing today. I've been able to get a little caught up on my paperwork while the kids are quiet. I send them off with candy afterword, so they're high on sugar after the leave my class. :)

I'm looking forward to the snow tonight, quite honestly. I like nights that I can cuddle up with my cats!

Stovemonster - on the serious side, I've been sleeping great. I discarded all my herbs because the morning coughing fit was incompatible with my chronic sciatica. When something is doing more to me than for me it's gotta go. However, I've been walking 6 or so miles in the evening and the quality of my sleep is great. No alcohol, no coffee after 5:00 p.m., just a long hike on an old ski trail every afternoon. When I get home I have a little bit to eat, recline on the heating pad and fall asleep listening to Olberman make fun of Bill-O. Works every time:)

23 outside here with some wind. On the NWS forecast page, current conditions are putting us as 12 degrees when including wind chill. Brrrrrrrrr!!!

I haven't had it on all week. There's supposed to be a cool front coming throughtonight though, with tomorrow's high around 78. That's more like it.

Today's the day I finish picking up all the clutter to make the house pretty. The RE sign goes up tomorrow, there's caravan (all the realtors come through) and a luncheon here tuesday, and Charlotte (our realtor) has 5 people lined up to see the house.
