Wed., at work, I had chills and body aches but just thought the air conditioning was too high and 2 days at the same job made me ache. After hot bath,early bed and Tylenol I felt fine Thursday until late afternoon. Chills again only this time with a very low fever. OK, early to bed, fever broke after four hours..maybe just a 24 hour flu, right? Yesterday I only worked 6 hours after sleeping 9 hours. The fever and chills came back. I could not risk ruining the group trip so had to cancel. The predicted weather, average highs 54, average lows 30, with thunderstorms, showers, few showers and partly cloudy weather on all 6 days hadn't affected me much. I have warm, waterproof clothes and the BWCA can look misty and dreamy in the rain...but, that weather with my health concerns just isn't a good combo...at least I can write about it without bawling like a baby like yesterday...that may sound childish to all of you but I felt my world just closing down...my health has so negatively impacted my desire to "get out" this year and this trip was my present to myself for losing most of the season...and now, I've lost it...poor, sad, whiney Mata who can't even drink wine although she can eat cheese... The actual weather forecast you posted was a good one. Records kept at the Sawbill Trail Entrance used to show that during the summers it rained about 50% of the time. The recording, which was local, was broken into morning, afternoon and night reports. On a day-by-day calender, they would color-in rain, the sun shining, and part sunshine and part clouds. So, even a shower could show as rain for the entire night. I could always look at the previous year's report and spot the days when I was there by the sequence of rainy parts. But, in spite of showers, most of the days were delightful with lots of sunshine. I was seldom holded-up because of the weather and never had to pitch my tent or break camp in the rain. And since it is almost impossible to obtain accurate forecasts for the area, I would just pack-up and depart the twim cities with my canoe, whenever I had the opportunity. Your next trip to the BWCA will be worth any wait. So get yourself better and keep showing us pictures of your beautiful smile(pictures, please). EDIT I no longer drink wine or any other booze and cheese is a no-no for me. Elimination of that and other things makes me feel better than ever.
