The high (47) was at midnight and temps will be dropping throughout the day. It's expected to reach 32 by mid-afternoon and give us a brush with some sleet. NS, the reservoir in question is a 20 minute drive, upriver from Augusta. The idiots in DC renamed it after Strom Thurmond a few years ago but everyone still calls it Clark's Hill, <G>. The Corps of Engineers built the dam in 1953 or 4. It's a pretty big lake... about 2 miles across near the dam and it goes about 15 or 20 miles upstream in two branches, one westward along Little River and the other northeast up the Savannah. Further north, there are two other major dams (Russell & Hartwell) and eventually the Chattoogah River and the Ellicott Rock Wilderness. If you feed the lat. & long. from the previous post into Topozone.com this is what you get (Georgia is to the left; South Carolina is on the right). Bussey Point Wildlife Mgt. Area is located between the two branches. It's a nice little 6-mile hike to the tip of the point, but it's about as flat as can be. We built huge molds that looked like giant waffle irons for them. Funny but sad- the first time they used three of these molds, they didn't spray them with releasing agent. SO- back over come the molds, where we had to COMPLETELY disassemble (hydraulic systems and everything) these molds, made of thousands of aluminum blocks.
