Good morning.

Yesterday was eventful, somewhat. I was feeling much better and played a little pool around noon. I was irked by attitude problems of an old crony with whom I was playing. I figured that I had enough problems of my own and did not need his, so I quit the game. The trouble is: Most of my old friends have quit smoking, that is, they're dead and buried. So I'm stuck with the few who are left. Guess they feel the same.

Someone commented that the place looked like a real pool hall again the previous night. Some road players were in town playing some of the locals for real money, like $500 or 1,000 per set.

During the afternoon I did laundry. A daughter, my 4-year-old granddaughter and my daughter's boyfriend came over and installed two replacement, used, A/C's for me. Pretty nice, although I was unsure just what to say. They are in the process of splitting-up. So, I took them all out to dinner. The A/C's were from some of my Chinese relatives.

Then I visited the pool hall again. Sure enough, the road players were back and a number of large money games were being played. Saw some very good pool shooting until about midnight. Then I went home. I've always told my children that nothing good happens after midnight, so they might as well go home. I decided to apply my own teachings.

Have a great day. Hope you can get out, at least part of the day.

Good morning!

The treehouse is almost done, just needs some paint and a few finishing touches. No electric or heat, it's also only fifteen feet from the house. What can we do, it's the only tree we have even half-way suitable.

All turned out well with the babysitting yesterday. It amazed me how well those kids listened and followed the directions I gave them, until their mom and dad came back at 9:30pm. Then it was chaos, just like usual.

Today my mom turns sixty. Made her a thundercake yesterday. Looking forward to the celebration today.

You all enjoy your Sunday.

Its Music Fest in town this weekend, and the local Catholic Church had its annual Polka Mass this morning. Interesting. There were 5 buses of tourists that showed up to church. What an interesting town I live in....

Beautiful day today. We're about to go out for a run, and then to an ABBA tribute concert tonight.

I'm sending out a resume/cover letter today to a school my uncle was assistant principal at. He retired, but I'm having him call up the school to put in a word for me. Hopefully I can get an interview out of this, and more hopefully a job!

It was a great morning for tennis. 58 degrees at 9 AM. Played in a men's doubles tournament. My tennis partner and I won the first set against the winners of last year's tournament and it was 3 all in the second set. My partner broke a string and had to borrow a racquet, since he had just broken a string on his spare racquet the day before.e lost the second set 6-3 and ended up losing the "super tiebreaker" (first to 10 pts. by 2). I felt good about our performance. We played a consolation match and won 6-2, 6-3.

I don't think it got above 70 degrees all day. The sun was shining...a perfect day for a couple of tennis matches.

I know what a Thunder Pot is, but not a thundercake.

Jeans and sweatshirts? Wow, we're celebrating the first day under 90 (it's 89) in probably a month. We won't have jeans and sweatshirts here until about the 2nd week in October.

Very cool on the treehouse. He sure built that quick. Did he have any help?

We've had an exciting weekend with the addition of a Nintendo PS2. I bought about 5 used games. Reece loves the Star Wars Legos game. It's SW from episodes 1, 2, and 3, but all the characters are legos. NCAA Football 04 has been my vice. I got the 04 version because it was $2.

I can't recall the last time I slept past 7am. I stayed up to about midnight Friday to watch King Kong. Next thing I know it's 8:30. Very nice. I fought the urge for a Sun nap because I need to be at the office before 5am on Mon with lots to do. Naps make me not want to go to bed and I couldn't afford that. Man, a nap would be nice though.

Ok, Sassafras, since you used the term, "thundercake," please tell us your definition of it? Thank you.

I have assumed that during a storm, baking a cake is a way of passing the indoor time. I further assume that it can be any cake made during a storm or while waiting for a storm.

I don't recommend doing it. During storms, especially here in Florida, I try to avoid all electric appliances, water, etc., just as a safety precaution. I suppose it may be safe to bake a cake in a wood burning stove, except, perhaps, for the metal of the unit.

Anyone else have more ideas, information or definitions on this subject?

The thunder cake was pretty good. Not as good as the one we baked during a storm. The cake recipe comes from a great children's book by Patricia Polacco. She writes about her childhood experiences on her Russian descent gramma's farm in Mid Michigan. Thundercake is about how she conquered her fear of thunder by helping her Gramma bake a thundercake. It's a great story and the recipe that is in the back of the book is excellent. Normally I don't care for from scratch chocolate cakes. The boxed mixes are better imo. But the tomatoes in the recipe make it moist; they don't add much flavor.

You'll find a recipe here.

Have you been out traveling through Michigan all week? Nonconformist and I drove through a campground last Monday. We drove by a woman camping alone and I commented to him that I thought she sorta looked like your pictures. I wonder if it was you...? Did you happen to camp on the Lake Michigan shore last Sunday or Monday?

Good Morning. You look beautiful today.

Thanks, Sassafras, but after getting hungry, I bought a Boston Cream Cake. With it and some Cinnamon Rasin Buns, I'm fixed just fine.

Boy, this bout with a kidney problem showed me some things. One's health not only effects one's activities, but one's attitudes as well! Fortunately, I'm feeling much better and will see the doctor again tomorrow. I would like to see the scans of my abdominal region. I'm wondering how abnormal my liver appears, after years of heavy alcohol consumption.

It is fantastic how finely tuned the body is to each of it's parts.

Have a great week. You're all wonderful.

Afternoon, everyone.

I got up this morning, shaved my legs, ironed a shirt, and even put makeup on to deliver a resume to a school nearby. Ends up I only was able to talk to the secretary. Huge bummer. She couldn't even tell me when they were going to start interviews. :( In the meantime, I am going to start planning for the start of the school year, as if I had a job. Keep your fingers crossed I find one in the next two weeks!

SG, don't be too disapointed. Some secretaries run the show!

The crysalis hatched and we sent it off, but not before setting it on the buterfly bush for some lunch. We should have another onehatching tomorrow.

We got Cable internet two weeks ago and it's been out four days out of 14. The man showed up today to troubleshoot. It was the damn squirrels! They ate the outside line. So, after much frustration and many minutes on the phone arguing with the cable company about what's working what isn't working, it is fixed. I just wish we didn't have to fight so hard to get some help from some of these companies.

I spent what felt like most of yesterday floating down the Ichnetucknee river in an inner tube; I still think today is monday.

My niece, nephew and myself were the first ones to the north gate of the park to float down the river. We only saw three other people the entire time. All the area schools started back yesterday, so no wonder it was deserted and completely wonderful! There were lots of birds. Unfortunately my bird guide is already up in Charlotte in a moving box so I can't identify more than half of them. My nephew had a blue heron fly about 3 feet above his head, cronking it's weird call the whole time. He freaked out a little.

I think there needs to be a TT Ichnetucknee trip in the future. It's fantastic. Kayakers are allowed on the river too. Just no food, drinks of any sort, or tobacco are allowed.

Hello from NW Wisconsin...home again from Michigan to find my computer won't power up...only shows a flashing amber light on the tower...I'm using Bill's..thank god we have 2 in the house! Don't have the energy to deal with it right now...

Got in an overnight backpacking trip on what must be one of the most desolate stretched of Lake Michigan shoreline in the U.P. It was very tiring but very satisfying. I then got lost trying to get across the Menomonee River..the road I usually take has had the bridge washed out..I took many wrong turns..guess I was tired..finally found a county park to land in just before the all-night rain hit...but, that's another story...

Your treehouse sounds cool, Sass...

Nowslimmer, your whole thread made me smile...the one that talked about buying a Boston Cream Pie and Cinnamon Raison buns then added:

Good morning.

Thanks, MataHariHiker. Sure wished I had looked for you, when I was in your area previously. That whole area is still exciting to me. And I saw a picture of you somewhere recently. Wow! Your beauty sets me aglow, actually, more on fire.

The food purchases represented my "ThunderCake." Sassafras had told us about baking ThunderCakes in some previous posts. A purchase was easier than baking a cake for me. I never thought of the connection, which you so easily spotted.

Reasons that I love your area include:

1. Growing up in Chicago, where the mere mention of the "North Woods" brought out mystic thoughts and envy from all your associates.
2. Spent 10-years of my life living in the Twin Cities Area and fishing in the double state-wide community.
3. Attended Lawrance (College) University in Wisconsin, 1950-54.
4. Had a close Aunt and Uncle in Pequot Lakes, MN.
5.. Still have family in Minnesota.

Good morning. Just got back from 5 days on the Superior Trail. I hiked from Two Harbors to Silver Bay and back, a distance of about 85 miles in 5 days. My legs were in much better shape than I anticipated. My guess is it's all due to the rigorous demands of golf...or it could have been the bicycle thing.

My computer got whacked as well, MH. It was shut down when I returned and about 6-700 email messages were deleted, plus all my contact email addy's. Not being any kind of a geek, I guess I'll have to bring it to the shop and see if the missing data can be reclaimed and what caused it. Virus? Beats me. Looks like my next trip is Isle Royale on 6 September. Have a great day.

Sass, I had a lot of trouble with the cable company when I first got my internet, too. They sure make it easy to take your money, but don't want to help you out when you've got a problem. Too bad we don't have a choice as to what company we want to use.

I've been home for over two weeks now. Time to start unloading the car a little. Maybe I can get 10+ rolls of film to Walmart for processing.

Have a great day.

Morning everyone!

Today has started exceptionally well. Two English muffins with homemade Thimble-berry jam. I love my friend in Ishpeming (how do you spell that city?).

Packing up for the All about the Kids hike #4. Looking forward to leaving tomorrow.

Our last Monarch caterpillar is hanging upside down in his web. He should split open and reveal his pupa today. It's the craziest thing to witness.

You all have a great day.

Alabama Public TV has a wonderful show called Discovering Alabama. A faculty member from UA puts it on. He explores backcountry areas across the state and discusses environmental issues. It's been on the air for 20 years. He's speaking in my town today at the local library. I can't wait to hear him speak.

Pathman - I loaded that Webshots Desktop Program, looked at a few of my pictures and went to bed. Based upon some of the comments posted, I should be OK with it. Thanks for your help.

Chappy - I'm always in love. But in fact, I'm so horny, I get excited by the crack of dawn.

I have a job interview tomorrow (Thursday) and if you all could send good vibes, I'd appreciate it.

Yet another beautiful day in Michigan. I can't believe we've had such wonderful weather. Tonight we're going to "Bike Night" at a local watering hole. Should be interesting!

Good morning.

That's great ndews, mataharihiker. I'm overjoyed for you.

After a real good day on Tuesday, I lapsed some yesterday. My energy level dropped and I had to take some naps. My next scan will be on the 21st, so I will take it easy until then.

Have a wonderful day, everyone.
