There are so many back roads around here that I'll never see them all, each winding around small lakes and meandering streams, going by small farms, cabins and the inevitable (gawdamn) McMansions. I'm still seeking the balance of riding as many miles as I can while retaining enough reserve energy to work in my gardens. Ain't got it yet, but I'm closer than yesterday. I'm thinking of taking my bike up to the Superior trail. I hope to stash it up ahead, hike to it, ride back to the truck and repeat the process to the northern most point of the trail. That way I won't have 200 plus road miles to ride when I'm finished. However, I did manage to win 6 golf balls (I lost only 5 so there was a net gain of 1 ball), a dinner for two at a nice restaurant, a gift certificate for 1 dinner at another, and a baseball hat. I found my team to be extremely biased. It was a scramble event, so we played the best ball on each shot. On the par 3 18th hole I was the only one to land on the green with my tee shot. They still refused to play my ball. How unfair is that? They opined that it may have had something to do the fact that my shot landed on the 17th green, lol. But what the hell, I walked over, happily dropped in my putt for a birdie and walked through the cheering throngs to the clubhouse for a much deserved beer. Nigal - golf is good exercise? Are you nuts (rhetorical, you need not answer)? 18 holes with a golf cart only tires one due to sun exposure, not actual exercise. My corpulent friend who complains when I don't park close enough to his ball even objected when I placed my golf bag in the wrong side of the card. He didn't want to have to walk the extra step to pick his club. How aerobic is that? All I can see is it's a game for upsuckers and neurotics, and I'm only one of those. Hiking, bicycling and kayaking are much healthier physically, emotionally and spiritually. You don't keep score. If all of my parts aren't synchronized when I walk, I can still walk in a pretty straight line. If I happen to walk into the rough I can walk out and still have all my balls.
