The half-mile must have been as the crow flies. The typical GSMNP ups and downs of the trail must have added considerably to the distance. But I made it, walking back along a road while dodging low seated bicyclists on elongated bicycles. I'm still at Balsam Mtn. CG in GSMNP. It is nice and cool there for sleeping at night.
